The last HLA update gave us the ability to add our own custon audio without replacing audio. You can add whatever you want now. developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Half-Life:_Alyx_Workshop_Tools/Addon_Sounds

Turns out I just got it working, haha! It took me about 2 hours but here's what I've got: Firstly, create the folders in the directory of your addon (common\Half-Life Alyx\content\hlvr_addons\). This includes the resourcemanifests, sounds and soundevents folder. I basically copied everything the documentation stated, replacing audio_new_sound in every scenario with my own addon name. Now add your custom sound in .wav format in the /sounds folder. You will need to input the name of this sound later on in the soundevents.vsndevts file. For this example, the sound file is sound.wav. Inside the soundevents folder, copy the _soundevents.vsndevts file from the example soundevent (in documentation) and inside it, change "Addon.AudioNewSoundDemo" to "" - inside the quotation marks is what will be listed in the SoundEventPicker dialogue in for example, the snd_event_point entity. The final thing you must do to this file is replace "sounds/snd_sound_add_demo_01.vsnd" with your own file, for this example, replace it with "sounds/sound.vsnd" - Ignore the fact that we are using the vsnd extension, as the tools will interpret this correctly. These are the last edits to this file Moving on to the manifest files, inside your resourcemanifests folder, copy the _addon_resources.vrman file from the example Manifest file(in documentation) and inside it, change "soundevents/audio_new_sound_soundevents.vsndevts to "soundevents/_soundevents.vsndevts" This is all you will need to do with this file. Now move over to the asset browser, search for 'sound.vsnd' - or whatever you named your .wav file in the /sounds folder. Right click this file and click 'full compile'. Also do this with your _soundevents.vsndevts file. (just search _sound, it should come up). Do the same thing, right click and click fill compile. Now, just to be sure, towards the bottom right corner, you should see a button, with the text next to it reading 'Other assets referencing or depending on this'. Click this button. A new dialogue box will come up. Right click where it says 'resourcemanifests/_addon_resources.vrman' and click 'full compile' After this, you should be set. Check if your file is present by creating a snd_event_point entity and in the SoundEventPicker, try searcing for what you initially called it in the _soundevents.vsndevts file. (where i said "" ). I might make a tutorial based on this since nobody has one out yet. If this doesn't work for you (I'm crap at explaining through text!!) maybe wait for the video I will publish Hope it worked!

If you want to add sounds instead of replacing (thanks to the new update) see this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqqxZZSaasaGmJY Watch this video, of course, as it was very helpful to me and can help to your understanding of the Hammer editor (i omitted some key parts of my vid)
