Sweet Transit, a new train transport sim by Factorio's 3D Artist and developer, Ernestas Norvaišas.
REALLY have been anticipating this game, so I decided to do the basics off-stream with a normal long-form video.

this reminds me of my previous home. there was a train track directly behind the trailer and it would shake my entire bedroom every single time the train went by. my cat would freak out and hide in the bathtub when we first moved in, but he eventually got so used to it that it wouldn’t even wake him up. i really miss that home. i still live close enough to the tracks to watch it go by every day, but it’s not the same. i’d never imagine i’d become emotional from train transportation, but here i am. this was a really good video 1000/10

... Wow. Shortly after the birth of my first son my wife and I had to downsize. We ended up in an apartment stone' s throw from some railroad tracks. Aside from a squalling baby keeping me awake, the regular eardrum-bursting horn (which is completely necessary in the middle of the fucking night) was just enough to spice up a busy night before a day's work.

@@isaacsanford6340 my dad snores very loud. loud enough that i can hear him when i’m in the other side of the house. because i grew up with that, i rarely wake from loud noises. when i moved to that trailer, the train passing was very similar to my dads snores. the only difference was that it happened during the day and the night and it shook my room. i would be pulled from whatever i was working on or i’d be woken by my bedroom rattling. i sometimes had friends over and their reaction to the train passing for the first time was always funny. it definitely made my life a little less dull

@@queenthot1438 One small thing your father can do to combat that is to place his tongue on the roof of his mouth, in the soft palate. It's tongue-shaped. It's where it goes. This will serve, over time, to strengthen the underside of his chin. Here's hoping he doesn't have an excessive number of those. That aside... I guess a lot can be said about backgrounds. I always run a fan so as to drown out as much of the bullshit noise of the world as possible. I can't go camping easily, but I never had to adapt to trains and snores. Oof.

4:15 "Part of the joy of this game is in being bad in it before doing everything in an optimized way", this is one of my favorite aspects of games generally. The exploration of the play space, the free and raw creativity of playing with a new game. Looks like a promising game! I'll have to check it out some time Edit: After watching the entire video, I'll add that this game seems to have good pacing. It seems like a few times as soon as some new content or mechanic became "unlocked" was right when you needed it. A train car that transports new cut stone, or a new resource type added right when things were starting to stabilize. This game loos very well paced, or at least the first hour of gameplay looks good!

it's not. Have you not seen the pointless restrictions they have, turning the game into busywork tedium instead of actually focusing on expanding and increasing the complexity of the network? This is by a dude who has worked on factorio. And despite not being a train sim game, factorio train system is orders of magnitude more advanced without even getting mods involved. it is immesurably frustrating to see a great concept, by a dude who worked on one of the greats in the genre of "logistics", screwed up to this degree.

When you want trains to be able to take branching paths if one is blocked, like say different tracks at a station to prevent them lining up even if there are available platforms, you need a Chain Signal at the junction where you want it to pick. Otherwise with a normal Rail Signal it will just wait until the way it wanted to go when it left the previous station is emptied.

@@Dunkelseele The interface sure takes some getting used to. But saying it's bad because you can't copy a line is just ridiculous. The game is not easy and you shouldn't just be able to place things where-ever. It's not meant to be played like that. Despite its age and clunky interface, it has more depth than most games these days, and probably some of the best railway mechanics.

Wondering for the People Train, would it be better to run say a X cart train for each production building and sending it to that specific zone? So the Coal Zone is your 2 Coal Mines meaning you need 2 Carts. Each Cart holds 40 people and each building needs 40 people right so that way the swap over is nicer and you dont have 120 people vibing on the train for no reason. 2 lumber camps = 2 train car's That way you can also have like 1 Large ring track to which you split into segments - i.imgur.com/2HrNlYf.png Your grey line is the ring line and thats kinda a "encompass all" line Red line is people line to take them back and forth Blue line is the Goods line to depo at the warehouse Each City (idk if you have multiple) can have their own ring lines and you connect cities via the ring lines

Factorio plus Trains is technically true, but ... not quite right, given factorio does have trains already. however, that the game has you use them way earlier than Factorio does is a meaningful difference. More, the opening set-up reminds me of Factory Town, a game I liked until it scrapped universal happiness (basically a free speed boost for making and delivering fancier products) and made the starting resource storing building be a town center hub, which ... kinda breaks keeping your warehousing and housing separate to start.
