Ambrose Akinmusire performs his composition "Vartha" together with the WDR BIG BAND. The arrangement is by Orrin Evans, who also leads the WDR BIG BAND. Other solos are played by Paul Shigihara on guitar and Johan Hörlén on alto saxophone and Ambrose Akinmusire on trumpet. Recorded in October 2016 at WDR Studio 4 / Cologne.

Q: is wdr one of the"(BEST..) IF NOT THE BEST group of highly skilled musicians.. That truly understands this style of music. An they can play this music with Absolute control of there insturment. Wdr is the best @it. My father was a big band trumpet 🎺 4 many years.He also was a great soloists. When he played His music.. lt all made sense. I now speak this language. Maybe we could chat 1day?
