I do not think there will ever be a test bowling combination as lethal as Ambrose and Walsh at their peak. As Allan Donald said on a program about Ambrose a few years ago, he blew away line ups when it mattered, when everything was on the line.

The thing is, as good as the SA first class system was, to face Ambrose and Walsh would have been really difficult on the final day in Barbados. Anybody who follows cricket knows how difficult it is to chase at Kensington oval on the final day. The pitch deteriorates significantly and its abrasive so there is reverse swing on offer. In fact, the highest successful chase on the ground is only 311, when lara made 153 n.o....and even then, he was the only guy in the 2nd innings of both sides who scored over 50. And Ambrose was the best bowler in the world at the time

Damn..the two gentle giants blew the South Africans away for only 26 runs on the final day.. I as a school boy witnessed India being blown away for 81 in 1997 against the Windies..that too when it was a 1930 hours start in India N i still couldn't but appreciate the enormous takent these Windies fast bowlers had! Love the Carribean cricket..they're the most unique cricket fraternity in the whole World!

That is what West Indies player lack today The believe and love for the game to win. Most of the players only looking the money side of the game. They don’t have an aim to break record and be consistent. Them should sit down and watch theirs history.

Let me add some first hand clarity... Brian Lara and the overconfident RSA lower and middle order batsmen almost brought up the sun after a night of boozing at The Harbour Lights nightclub- As a matter of fact, he told my brother Richard, the refreshments coordinator (glorified title for waterboy)- as they gathered around the cart during the water break after the first hour... This match will not last until lunch. The rest of them are not able to bat... So said so done- Capitulation 😂

West indies cricketers today is not as dedicated only in it for the $$$$. Today them will be partying not thinking how to win matches .west indies will never get back on top plus, this 20/20 swipe cricket taking over the cricket world. That kind of cricket cnnot produce good cricketers all that cricket does is swipe and good cricket is not about swiping only . So overall 20/20 cricket is blocking the chance for producing good cricketers around the world . Even the 50 overs is a better game but, in life there is changes whether we like it or not change is constant in time to come there might even be a 10/10 overs game 😢 . Bring back d old time days.
