Indian cricket is so much about could and should that one doesn't have to struggle to find answers to a few why's... 1.Why despite BCCI dominating matters off the field why Team India can't dominate on it? 2. Why despite the systematic murder of seaming tracks - Team India's bette noire - is the team still struggling for consistency? 3. Why despite the BCCI organizing regular bilateral series with the West Indies - despite their perennial decline - is Team India still trailing in head-to-head meetings? 4. Why despite all the pitch alterations does Team India still have a negative record against all major Test teams? 5. Why despite of all the unnecessary hype, media coverage and fan following is Team India yet to dominate like the Windies team of 1970s and 1980s or the Australian team of the 1990s and 2000s? 6. Despite BCCI having most cricket boards at their mercy, tweaking things as per convenience why can't Team India win consistently on the field? 7. Why can't Team India not dominate a sport that is on continues decline? The answers to all the questions lies in the coulds and shoulds. When you can't dominate in a third world sport, with all things going in your favor, no wonder you have only 28 medals to show in 28 Olympics, and in 120 years of participation. 1991 wc produced many matches affected by bad weather conditions. India/RSA/WINDIES badly affected by these on the one side and ENG/PAK got benifit on the other side (undoubtedly they played too very well when mattered so nothing to take away). But 1991 wc was the only wc in which bad weather conditions changed whole scenario of the wc. If all matches played fully certainly teams in the semi finals and final would have been different and so will be the champions too.

I am sure you didn't watch anything in that WC, perhaps just read some biased report somewhere. Pakistan was easily winning it's game against SA but rain intervened and handed over the game to SA, though they got a little return gift from the rain God back in their game against England. Then SA were undone in the Semi Final against England though it can't be said for certain that SA would have won if the full game was possible, 22 from 13 was a big ask in those days and when you consider they were into their tails then even more so. India was poor throughout and even Shastri's home was bombarded with rotten tomatoes and eggs after the defeat against England after a fans frustration that was build over few games, so they were never in contention for Semis at all. WI had themselves to blame for their pre SF exit and partly the destiny for the two games, Pak vs SA and Pak vs Eng, if any of that has different results then WI would have been in SF.

Prior to the world cup, India dominated West Indies twice in a triangular series. First was in sharjah were Pakistan emerged as a winners and second in Australia were the host were ended up as champions. Hence India after 2 close early losses and 2 wins thereafter look favourites to win the clash against the Carribeans who were than on decline....Unfortunately Indian batting crumbled after position of strength and Lara dismantle their attack in quick time ...India lost the game they expected to win and than knocked out of the tournament

Both Jadeja and Srikanth were specialist openers. And Srikanth used to be most attacking batsman of India. Sachin was an established middle order then , and pitches & grounds of Australia were not very conducive for 15 over rules. Only NZ's small grounds helped lofted shots. From 1992 to 2001 indian players have given lots of heartbreaking dissapointment to indian people, after 2000 we see positive young blood likes of yuvi, viru, zaheer,. Major culprits of that time, azarudin, jadeja, prabhakar and many more, we use to see match only for great sachin

It is not a fair comparison. The will and drive to win and ability to fight out a hard winning game, has not been imbibed in the team then. It developed by 2001 and beyond. In 1992, Srikkanth was past his prime so his pinch hitting and quality waned by then. Azhar knew that Shastri was slow, hence he asked Jadeja to open and he actually did ok. Prabhakar did grab wickets in most games, except this WI game and against SA. Kapil's ODI bowling was also on the wane. India also had to play a much stronger opposition in 1992 (pretty much all the teams had good bowling attack and that too in good conditions to bowl). I don't think the team of 2000 would do much better against those attacks in 1992. Different eras had its own challenges. 1992 WC was probably the toughest we had to play in before 1999 WC

This is rain affected match, in this world cup rain is the villain for us. We lost the point against srilanka, aus, SA, WI because of rain. There was rain in zim match also but some how we got the 2 point.

The two matches against England and Australia could have been won by India, that could have led them to Semifinals, If West Indies could have won the Australia, Pakistan could have been washed out from Semi finals

Hahaha, India were escorting the ball the boundary during 80s, 90s , Indian fielding was really unbelievable but not in a good way lol !

Also this match was played in very cold weather and the Indians didn't know how to field in these conditions (hands being very cold), hence they dropped a bunch of catches. Seems there were also allegations of players dropping catches deliberately to trouble Azhar. Plus batting became easy in the 2nd innings especially after the rain. No one knew how to dive around. Pretty disastrous game.
