Wow, that bought back bitter sweet memories for me. I’d forgotten so much about the dispute including the news crews filming us at our station (seeing the old faces just now me leave me wondering what everyone is doing now!). At the time I was just a young lad but I did learn a hard life lesson regarding how unions will sell out their members as soon as it suits them to do so. Like many I was left penniless after the dispute but what a time, everyone involved grew so close and the public’s support was overwhelming. 30+ years later I’m really proud how the service has moved so far forwards to become a respected profession with clinical skills that we could never imagine back then and pay equality with other NHS and emergency service workers. Many thanks for posting this - much appreciated.

Thanks for posting this - An important (yet now mostly forgotten) chapter in industrial relations in the UK, which helped shape today's modern professional ambulance services. I can't find Part 1 - could you provide a link please ?
