Loving these ambulance videos, thank you Jim! I just got an '02 E450 ambulance to convert to a camper. The original plan was to work with the interior that is there...but now you have me thinking otherwise. I'm in South FL as well, Jupiter :)

The great part about an ambulance frame is the way it was designing instructed, it was intended to be able to survive during a rollover or debilitating crash. The interior was created to be able to move a gurney inside and then retracted from the unit. There is absolutely no thought given to a full-time interior living space. Thus there was a lot of wasted space during construction of the interior. In my humble opinion starting from scratch on the interior is a job done right. Everyone has a budget and some people are more acceptable with less. I love to create a masterpiece regardless of whether I’m making a door knob or a yacht. I wish you great luck with your project. Thanks for sharing these inspirational and informative build videos. I've begun shopping for an E450 ambulance of my own, planning a full interior gut reno, when I came across your channel. It's really helpful to see the framing with the cabinets and insulation stripped. I'm happy to see the additional overhead hidden in that ceiling (suspected there were a couple inches lurking up there). You also cleared up the mystery of the inches "stolen" from the forward wall of the box: the AC lines! (By the way, does this AC use water/antifreeze hoses to a remote heat exchanger in the engine bay? I plan on ditching the 120V compressor in favor of a 24VDC unit, but like the idea of external heat exchanger without extending refrigerant lines to/under cab.) I am thinking of using composite FRP/polypropylene honeycomb panels for my interior cabinets for strength, light weight, durability, and moisture resistance, backed up by and bonded to welded aluminum framing as/where needed. As a marine guy, what do you think of this idea?

Thank you Mac, You should be able to see the cooler for the A/C under the unit. You will find it just aft of the side door. I like your idea of the light weight panels. We are welded everything because it will strengthen the box and I will only need a “beauty” skin for the plating. Your idea will result in a very nice end result as well. Good times ahead! Jim

Why not a simple custom poly tank in that locker with a 12v heat "freeze preventing" patch?

Do you not know who we are?😉 We Gained way more water storage than any poly tank that would fit in there could do for us and gives us a mount place for all the propane tanks and hot water heaters. Anybody can put a poly tank in a cabinet, that’s not why our customers come to us. Love hearing from you and I hope you’re having a blessed day. Namaste Jim

Is no one concerned about weight distribution of 65 gallons on one side or?

There is no concern about the 520lbs of water being placed in this location as the battery bank and a/c and refrigeration system is on the opposite side.

American rv's are terrible build quality from what I have seen of them here in the UK. Cereal boxes on wheels. Using a base vehicle like an emergency vehicle gives you a very well built and strong platform to tailor to your needs. Worth every penny if you want a strong and reliable travel vehicle. It may appear to be over engineered but that is building in redundancy that you cannot buy off the shelf. Good work and keep the vids coming👍
