All My Children - 2002 - What Ifs

All My Children, 2002, Tad insists that Brooke stop being his babysitter, and spend time with Edmund. When Brooke turns around to find Edmund, he has disappeared. Brooke wanders into the mausoleum, and finds Edmund talking to "Maria." Brooke attempts to leave without being noticed, but Edmund hears her at the door. Brooke apologizes for listening, and then apologizes again for the part she feels she played in Maria's death. Edmund is glad that he has the chance to bring up his feelings about Maria, and he wants to share them with Brooke before they get married. They return to the chapel, and Edmund tells Brooke that for the first time since Maria's death, he is ready to let her go. Brooke admits that she has been irrationally worried since they got back together that Maria could return. Edmund thinks of all the problems they could face, that isn't one of them. Edmund admits that he was worried Brooke was thinking about getting back together with Tad. Brooke supports Tad because he is her friend, not just because he is Jamie's father, but she loves only Edmund. The two realize that the road to happiness has never been easy for them, but as long as they are honest with each other, they have got it licked. I was so mad when Maria came back and ruined Edmund and Brooke. We had been waiting 9 years for them to get back together only for St Maria of Wildwind tending to the sick and the needy in her push up bra came back.

Ugh, I know. Not only do they bring BORING Maria back, but then the writer's had Edmund treat Brooke in such an ugly manner- as if she was nothing to him. Horrible. Edmund's character was destroyed and Brooke's character just got left on the wayside. AMC really messed up.

@@deuxjournalistes2993 Edmund became sanctimonious like Maria. He ran for office! He became such a 1-dimensional character. You know, I remember when Dimitri and Maria slept together. I think it was Soap Opera Digest that pretty much defended Maria, and felt the little saint was still such a lovely, innocent character that could do no wrong (they defended Dimitri too). I recall the same magazine, and others, trashed Brooke for sleeping with Pierce, an unmarried man who had no ties at all to Pine Valley, because they felt Brooke slept with Janet's 'man'! Though Pierce was never fond of Janet that way. The magazines always pimped Maria and Edmund. ABC did too. They touted Maria/Edmund the AMC darlings, though their characters' entire first storyline consisted of Edmund still being in love with Brooke and Maria being angry about it, and knowing she was his 2nd choice. THEN, they had a spectacular wedding! No wonder Edmund/Maria crumbled so badly.
