I still have my FX60 with Asus Sli Premium board. I used an XFX 8800 Ultra triple X version at the time bench marking 3D Mark 05/06 back in 2007. (second highest score, missed first by 4 points) I think my overclock on the Air cooler was around 3.1 ghz on a Zalman copper cooler. (I think it was a 9500 or 9700 model?) One of these days gotta boot this FX60 up with my 8800 GTS 320 i still have kicking around. Thanks for the video Retro!

Awesome hardware and overclocks! A friendly tip for your CPUZ validations, just press F7 whenever you want to validate, it will automatically save the CPU-Z cvf file in CPUZ folder. Its much faster this way, especially if you are on the limits of the CPU on subzero cooling.

"cool" stuff :-) although, looks like that this marvelous 6800 Ultra is too slow to show the full potential of the A64FX, would be interesting to see the results with something like an 8800 Ultra or GTX 285...

Can we please stop obsessing over the nvidia 6800 series GPU's? Yes it was the first nvidia offering with a decent shader model 3 implementation, but it's performance is less then stellar even on the high-end 6800 ultra. The 7900GTX offers a much better experience on a platform like this. It's probably a great idea for a follow-up video.

You were running way too low voltage on that FX60, you could easily go 1.65v on cooling like that for a benchmarking session. I ran 3.2ghz 1.52v on regular watercooling daily on my opteron 175 (I had pretty much the best stepping available, hence the crazy oc which was fully prime stable) for over half a decade and it never degraded. Great videos man, you have a crazy collection from the great 00s, when hardware just was at another level of awesome!
@tamw2 жыл бұрын
Oh and another note, when overclocking fsb/htt on NF4 boards remember to lower the HT (hypertransport) multiplier in bios, you had left it at 5x which will bring the bus to over 1000mhz which they really don't like and get wildly unstable. Raising HT does not increase performance, and you won't lose performance until you go down to like 600mhz.
@RETROHardware2 жыл бұрын
FX60 has double cache, this CPU in real is very hot vs. Opteron. Opteron is different story with OC. 1.65V is risky voltage and I don’t want to lose xxx€ CPU :-) I know with HT freq, I tried all settings but its not in video. HT settings is good to hold in middle way vs. final FSB you have on CPU.
@tamw2 жыл бұрын
@@RETROHardware The FX60 and the dualcore opterons are exactly the same actually, same 2x1mb cache, only the FX has unlocked multiplier. But yeah I do understand what you mean, they are very rare and expensive these days, hehe.

The Toledo core (FX-60) does not like extremely low temperatures and loses frequencies. The best temperatures for the maximum frequency are within -10 ~ -20 degrees. Some samples show better frequencies at -5 degrees.
