@@happybuggy1582 Yes, it's a real tragedy. I've switched from Nvidia to AMD, and I was very used to Nvidia Inspector. And you can find a plethora of informations about Nvidia drivers stuff online. But there is surprisingly almost nothing about AMD drivers and how to set/use them properly. Well, I'm very thankful for vidos like this 👍👍👍

It was obvious that it was never a problem, the minimal driver thing was for those people who never use software and uninstall everything possible because they're crazy. Like those windows tweak guides that disable services which ends up causing problems because they disable anti virus, the firewall, Windows update, etc. People on the Internet are crazy, you have to use common sense. The most controversial take I have is that denuvo is harmless, because it's not a root kit or requires constant online connection. It's just activation like Windows itself uses.

This speaks loudly to how things have changed on the last decade as far as overhead handling. A decade ago having less "crap" installed always yielded better performance. Ten years ago this kind of test would have shown significant differences. Back in the 9800pro days we used to download tweaked drivers. Guru3d as I recall and a big part of it was they had all the crap stripped out!

Hello Fabio! Thank u for your job! Driver side i understood one thing, in particular about gpu temperature. During 2023, especially in Feb-Mar-Apri, with stock profile my 6700 reached 101' on hotspot and around 85' on backplate. Now, with 2024 driver, with the same deafult profile, same game, same preset I reach 10' less than a year ago. Simply i have same temperatures when i had uv profile. Now i'm using a little offset in vram with fast timing, and power limit unlock. This is amazing. 🎉

Loved the video! I heard you say if somebody says a driver only install works better than a full install, that’s because the issue is usually the user. Have you ever done a video explaining what the user could be doing wrong? I ask because my reddit and Facebook AMD groups are littered with people having driver/stability issues and saying it’s a AMD problem, not a user problem.

Oh yeah, people need to get a best practice to always fresh install windows from bootable usb with a new GPU or whatever, disable internet connection, install drivers from usb, driver only(gpu). It helped me to stabilize +20 builds

Thx for the video! When I was having issues with my 7900xtx one of the things I tried was a driver only install. That did fix my driver timeout issue for about a month. Then I think it was 2023.12.1, I'm guessing here, driver with the HAGS support came out. So I decided to go back to the full install. To this day I've been doing okay. It seems like I traded driver timeouts for stuttering once in awhile when I start up a KZbin on the second screen but I'll take that over the timeout. Lol I mostly play wow so I'll normally have KZbin playing on the other screen.

theres software mpo fix or something like that. that u can disable mpo. hags. tdr . works great and if u dont like it u can switch back easily no issues. also can turn shader cache on . off.. or amd optimized.. i noticed. on works best for me . amd optimized i get texture corruption in forza horizon 5

The argument I see online about install method seems to be about stability rather than performance. I.e. a minimal or driver-only install is much more stable. Do you think this is purely an OC/UV issue that is self-inflicted that causes instability for people? Or that one install method is actually better/worse for stability. I don't know why are there 3 different "feature" installations. Not sure about driver only, but minimal install is still tracking and collecting all of the data like full installation (reg keys for it are the same as well). Even with "do not send data or whatever" checked during installation, Radeon software still pops up in network activity and sends data with network features disabled. Minimal install would make sense if it had per-game settings, but there is no real point in it in current state. Never used driver only because it lacks display tweaking and all of these functions are important except broken HDMI scaling and VSR.

The 8700G is far from powerful mate, it is overall slower than a 7600X. Obviously you have a 3600, but the "slowest" medium gaming CPU that people should have by now is the R5 5600X

Good job on the MSFS2020 one, it like most Flight sims is heavily CPU limited and it, like DCS, is one of the biggest areas where X3D processors hold a massive advantage over everything else. For example the venerable 5800X3D can beat a 13900K, unless the latter is heavily overclocked with no powerlimit. The 7800X3D basically rules in MSFS2020 and DCS. In fact a year ago when PC Games Hardware tested it, the RX7900XTX (OC Model) and the RX7900XT (OC model) both beat an OC model of the 4090 in it, due to their lower driver overhead. Indeed DCS and MSFS2020 were one of the biggest reasons the 5800X3D got so successful, as pretty much any serious flightsimmer used it at the time, as the Intels had in DCS, due to their boost feature and DCS's Single-thread-ish nature (until very early 2023 when Multi-threading was released) had the annoying issue to create stutters/hiccups every few minutes. Which I think coincided with them needing to switch the cores that had just reached their thermal limit. The 5800X3D had buttery smooth performance all round, so it got recommended to everyone trying to build a system for combat flightsimming. Flight sims also need, due to their nature as extreme open world games, which leads to constant asset streaming, good storage for performance, an NVME SSD is mandatory in the modern ones and DCS seems to profit from SSDs with cache. Additionally DCS is an absolute RAM hog, that needs for some of the more complex multiplayer missions, which can involve hundreds of units, 64 Gigabytes of RAM. Or 32 GB+a 32GB Pagefile size. MSFS2020 is not as RAM dependant, that has been reigned in due to patches. But Imho they went to far, they should put more into the RAM and VRAM to improve performance. But only if you have that. The CPU limit can also be seen in the fact that while I run an XFX RX7900XT Merc 310 Black Edition in 3440x1440, I get Medians of 108.8 fps, Averages of 106.6 and 1% lows of 76.8 fps. Yeah it's a bigger resolution, but not what you'd expect in a RX7700XT vs. RX7900XT. Arma 3 is another extremely CPU depedant and intensive game, to the degree that a 5800X3D will beat out a 4090 in effect on the framerates, if you have a strong enough GPU. ACC or Assetto Corsa Competizionen is another very CPU dependant and intensive game that profits massively from the huge cache, as Assetto Corsa, it's "predecessor".

a note to the "margin of error".. i get more than 2% perf diffs basically dependent on the temperature. in my case the nitro+ vaporx has a beefy cooler. even with 300+w load, it takes time for temps to go higher. then the fans hit in, then temps get bit lower. etc etc. so i'd be very interesting to collect an avg temp for a given result. especially, driver only and minimal install does not allow fan tuning. for full-install a fan with 100% would probably always yield in best performance. nice review, thanks! i like the jokes reg. fridge or user. lol

@@AncientGameplays Ok, will do! The RGB bar on the Nitro+ stopped working a couple months back. I tried every troubleshooting technique, but nothing worked. This has been a known issue with some sapphire GPUs. Other then that card is absolutely amazing. Best GPU I have owned.

12:03 i got the kits to change the features, it's called MoreClockTool. It doesn't have AFMF, but that isn't an issue when i'm aiming for lowest input lag. Also, it has overclocking as inside the software xD.

Is anyone here having issues with AMD Software opening up? I've been having this issue for over a year now where I right click on my desktop to open up the AMD Software and it never opens. Every AMD Driver i install, i sure disable 80% of stuff that gets installed via RADEON SLIMMER. Be it HDMI Stuff, Audio Supression or Link Drivers. There is a LOT that gets installed, and even if u only take out the automatic installed Ryzen Master SDK (which starts automatically with Full Install) its worth it. AMD should give us way more options what to install by default. Minimal Installation is also a feature not sooo long ago implemented. . But nice to see that there is barely any difference. Good Job Fabio, AMD JESUS did his work again ^^

AMD drivers are great I used to always only install the actual driver for nvida never the full package because the amount of bloat and telemetry that gets packed there, with AMD a full install is a all in one suite with negligible performance impact, with no bloat and telemetry

Even if full installation lose you like 1% of fps.. Just undervolt and enable fast timing, boost the core and memory clock a bit in full install.. That should give you 5% fps gain easily.

Fabio there is a weird bug in the amd drivers when using 24.1.1 on vega 7 5600g powerpoint for some reason resets the driver when using draw feature i reverted to 22.11.2 and it solved the problem.

I recently got a funky but powerful setup with the Ryzen 5600x CPU (overclocked through the AMD Software by +.2) and a 7900xt (untouched) with 40gb ram (oc to 3200 cant reach maximum without blue screen) I've used all 3 trying to find what was best for max performance - turns out that the full install happens to be the best option with a 30/40+ fps boost and only downside is before temps would settle at 78 and now they're pushing 83 during most video games played at max settings

Thank you for the video. Full install adrenaline gives me so many problems. First problem is when I start up my pc adrenaline just not starting and freezing the whole system. I have to open it up by myself or it's never opening and freezing the whole system. For a while, this method worked but 3 months later passed and now I can't open it by myself and system just forcing me to format the pc. (I did and this is turned a cycle now) The second problem is annoying sluttering on games, even for games like call of duty black ops or world at war. The game just sluttering like crazy and it is not letting you to play even for minecraft. So, this is why I'll chose minimal after now.

@5:20 SAM is also broken on the 6700XT. In some areas you will have lower FPS and crashes when SAM is enabled.

Hi Fabio. I know this might be irrelevant but I am using laptop which uses RX5500M and R7 3750H. I have noticed that when I play any GPU bound game like Forza Horizon 4 at max at 1080p where GPU starts to be a bottleneck, I have noticed that CPU clock speed immediately slows down. This can be double checked with me having Task Manager always on top, then focus the game tab and make sure the game is in fullscreen. While having Forza running with task manager on top, the moment to start to focus task manager the CPU clock immediately goes up like it should. When I disable AMD External Event Utility at services.msc, the CPU immediately boost up like normally it would. Same goes for CPU bound game like for example Roblox. When the game is in fullscreen, the CPU clock speed work as it should but if observed correctly at task manager, seams that the GPU tries to slows itself down and make sure GPU usage is high (like 80%) via task manager. And again as soon as I disable AMD External Event Utility, playing Roblox at fullscreen and with Task Manager on top shows GPU usage a little lower (like 70-75%). Well this was what I experience, maybe you can do some test too to see if this might be the case or not.

Testing a more CPU limited scenario with a more powerful GPU, a slower CPU, at low resolution, would be better.... I'd expect similiar results though. RSR and AFMF on some games is nice to have, so I do full install.

I mean, lower resolution? 720P in 2024? Also, the 8700G is not that powerful... in most scenarios it loses to the 7600X (gaming wise), so it is basically on par with the 5700X3D in most games that doesn't even cost 300 bucks
