192 cores? We need Cities Skylines 2 benchmark on that thing.

Not to ruin the obvious joke but LTT tried it (very badly and drew wrong conclusions) and windows only allocated like 64 logical cores (threads) on the 96core. So this 192c/384t cpu would be limited by windows unless you run 6x separate instances.

Just to revise ~ these are the same cores all the gamer_bois were dissing and dumping on as Zen 5%. Now let’s have a real good look at what the gaming performance uplift on the next gen Intel chips is. Fifteenth Gen. Error Lake. Because the way I hear it, Error Lake is going to be a whole lot more energy efficient, and have considerably better multi-thread performance, but the gaming is about the same as the current gen, if not a few percent backwards. No matter what twaddle the marketing types at AMD and Intel try and tell you, gamer_bois are not the target audience, for either company. They’re happy to sell you those chips, if you’re dumb enough to buy them, but the CPUs from both Intel and AMD are designed for server workloads. If you can also play PUBG on it, that’s a happy coincidence, but that isn’t what they’re designed for.

Gamers workloads are single core dominated latency based on feeding the beast x3d with m0re clocks should spank it. This is what the fintech simulation and other boys with money like so we never know. Running off in l3 cache is god like High yields channel showed the cache is more compact so they might be doing something weird there

500 watt / 16 chiplets ~~ 30 watts per chiplet, with the IO node cost amortized. And amd has "juiced the volts" up a bit this time, since intel actually managed to produce a somewhat competitive chip with a process advantage. But if amd is strongly competitive as it is, they can merely play the process boost at a later convenient point.

EPYC Genoa has a new IOD and IF. EPYC Turin has again improved the IOD and IF. Meanwhile, Ryzen 9000 reuses the slow IF from Ryzen 7000 which was already worse than that of Zen 4 Threadripper / EPYC.

Since most of us use OLTP, I keep wondering what a PostgreSQL benchmark might look like (I miss AnandTech and their database benchmarking). As for hosted LLMs, I don't see the reason to run GPUs on server for inference when there's services like Groq that are super cheap. Would love to hear other use cases.

> "If you hanging on to those old legacy systems it no longer makes rational let alone logical sense" Let me introduce you to the concept named "money" that makes this kind of thought logical and rational. It's perfectly fine to use those systems longer if you have other things you need to invest in, or if you simply don't have the money.

I think Wendel means that at large enough scale it may be an investment that will pay off really quickly in power and space rent costs. Most servers under load are going to pull about 1000W+ regardless of age, if you can replace 10 old servers with one or two of those beauties it may be worth it.
