Forced arbitration got so popular the arbitration companies started realizing they could set their own prices to anything and for a while, businesses didn’t notice. I once dealt with a scammer contractor who had placed a forced arbitration clause in his contract. “Okay I’ll start the process tomorrow. Have you read it? The icy wind shifted, coming now from the North. I knew there had been suburbs between where I was and the lighted buildings, but that ground was as dark as the overcast night sky.

Helene didn't just take out ONE factory an entire industry relies on. It's taken out multiple. One factory that my employer depends on, a factory that makes 60% of the WORLD'S SUPPLY of IV fluid (not just the pouches, but the saline liquid that goes into them) was taken out by Helene. My employer (a major Healthcare company in the US Southwest) has already started reducing the use of and rationing IV fluid. In a week, we've managed to reduce our consumption of IV Fluids by 32%. (If internal emails are to be believed.) So, Helene was a destructive beast as storms go.

We found some data, the data was wrong, data indicate(s) a trend, this datum needs to be rejected, maybe this set of data needs to be rejected? The source data drives the program, or rather the program is data-driven. We plot points of data. Would points of datum be more correct? What else is common parlance?

yes, data is a plural form of datum or pre-process/pre-package form of information. in the engineering side of earth science (any earth science with B.E. degree or part of sub-contractor on other industry). because most information is packaged from combination of chunk of part of each of different type of data being combined and changed on the processing side. yes, data is a plural form of data also.

I might get in trouble for saying this but I was invited to sit in the broadcom quarterly company meeting. And the VMware changes were being pushed by vmware execs not broadcom ones... It was a french dude talking, super corpo bs Graph go up talk. And honestly Broadcom's vp loved it, he's no angel... But crucially Broadcom does acquisition where it likes to keep things with very few changes because the CEO buys companies when he likes the product, and he doesn't aim to disrupt it massively. So from the inside baseball I've seen, it looks like Broadcom is getting the flack because they just acquired them, but in fact VMware wanted to be able to get away with these changes all along.

If you try to install Arch Linux on your own, software signatures are one of the most likely things to go wrong and bork your system. I love the desktop environment on the Steamdeck but vanilla Arch right now is kind of a nightmare.

all current packages in the official repositories will always have correct signatures - that is not the problem, the problem is when keys expire and users try to update or install something new after a long time passes since updating the archlinux-keyring package which has all the necessary keys to verify the signatures i've been running arch for a better part of a decade now and the only time i had problems with signatures was when installing from an old iso file, but i wouldn't consider myself an average user with how much tinkering i do with my os

@@pwii Even crazier, the signature problem is so bad that I have never successfully used command line for installation of Arch, the Archinstall automated process is the only way to get past the signatures. To their credit, once Arch is running it works flawlessly. Irony of all ironies, through almost half a decade of using Ubuntu it would consistently require re-installing from scratch every few months because of a file system journalling bug that would flood the OS drive with tens of gigabytes of garbage data. I stuck through at least a dozen builds of Ubuntu and they never fixed it. Ubuntu is plug and play, but an unstable system. Arch is also pretty much plug and play, and stable while running, but I can't update it. Debian and Slackware are stable but tedious to install due to FOSS packaging. With all the positive buzz for Bazzite that's going to next on my desktop, hopefully Bazzite will finally be the distro that fulfills the premise of being user friendly and stable.

The official Ryujinx is gone. But there is a fork of it up. They say they have it the same as the original Ryujinx project without the references to Patreon. and isn' affiliated with the original Ryujinx project, or Nintendo whatsoever. Also you have to manually download and update it. There is no option in the program to auto update. I hope this fork of it stays up. I want to have a good way play Switch games I own on my pc without needing to use my Switch docked connected to a capture card connected to my pc. The emulator makes that much easier to do.

The noun "data" is traditionally plural in both US and UK English, so it's reasonable for news articles to use it that way. Its singular form is "datum". In everyday speech (in the southeastern US) I have found that most people use it as a singular noun. It seems to be in the process of going from plural to singular. This is similar to what happened to the word "you", which replaced "thou" as the singular second person pronoun. Ironically, the word "y'all" was almost immediately coined to provide the function that "you" once served. I imagine in a few decades "datas" will start to come into use for the same reason. I hope you found this explanation exceedingly reasonable.

The US has a incredible volunteer spirit. People are flooding the area wanting to help. We do not need a “warrior class”, we just need more community organizations that help train and organize our desire to volunteer. Scouts are an example. Churches can be another. Friend of mine volunteers with a rescue organization in our area that saves people who are missing on hiking trails or impacted by a natural disaster.

I generally use "data" in an abstract massive form. Same for words like "crowd" and "information." Could be referred to in singular or plural sense. Last time I saw "datum" referred to in publication was in "C by Dissection" 3rd edition, back in CS1 class, back in the 1990s, when I was young and carefree.
