@@chillplay8d655 Got it 3 months ago 1 year used. Battery wear level is 10%, lasts up to 6 hours. Gaming is "ok", only old games give comfortable (50+) fps in native resolution, the Apu is 15W, some parts of the laptop can get fairly hot but is still running quiet (also bios has a coolling system setting "performance/quiet"). I don't use touch screen very often but it frees me from carrying a mouse and it super comfortable to open laptop at 270 degrees and put it on your belly while laying on the back. The touchpad is big enough but hard to press (click), same for keyboard. I absolutely love the size and weight, coming from 15,6" 2.9 kg Dell to 14" 1,6 kg I hardly feel any weight in the backpack. Sound is clear and loud, and the screen is comfortable too (no PWM) but maximum brightness is lower when unplugged. The laptop turns on in seconds and comes from the sleep instantaneous.

@@pilotavery Check out the Acer Aspire 5 with the Ryzen 3200U. It's right around $300, and granted, you need to upgrade the ram and the NVME, but man is it a great machine at that price point. IPS 1080p display. Even has an open 2.5" SATA bay for even more storage options. Excellent battery life, too. Honestly, at $300, you're down in Chromebook land, or at best, a sea of Celeron trash. This thing spanks that junk HARD. Only downside besides the mandatory upgrades it needs (I think of it like a barebones PC) is the screen could use some more NITS.. But that's NIT picking.. ;) hah..

I have my HP Envy x360 with the same chip and it just doesnt work for me. Constant gpu related issues (random green screen, windows crashes etc.) It is so bad that I´m not willing to buy anything from AMD anymore. Which makes me sad, because I´m more than pleased with the performance of the chip.

I have a asus vivobook 15 f512da with a 3500u, vega 8, 2x4gb ddr4 dual channel for gpu and one is soldered onto the mobo. I play minecraft w10, arma 3, 7 days to die, operation flashpoint dragon rising, the forest. it plays awesome. note to anyone that would get a laptop with a 3500u do not make a custom power profile. use the corp provided power plan and customize it to your needs "full custom plan resulting in throttles automatically even thought it is not hot". first step to do is optimize your power plan, second step is to get ryzen controller and make two OC plans for battery and plugged in. battery plan cpu at 15w and gpu at 50w, plugged plan cpu at 35w and gpu at 70w 1200mhz. this setup will bring your gaming to 10fps-15fps increase plugged in. and the second will make it not stuttery while on battery. hope this helps for y'all with r5 3500u issues with stutters

Usually 8250u laptops(which are outdated btw, the new ones came out long ago like 8265u) can be found for cheaper than AMD options AND they have undervolting which Linus DIDN'T do here. Even for basic tasks like browsing additional performance undervolting would give when the laptop would start slowing down would be very much appreciated, and AMD doesn't have that. Not to mention that many people buy quad core\8 thread CPU-s for video and photo editing, and undervolting helps improving rendering times in such programs. People who don't care about performance at all would go for an i3 or even a Pentium.

I've built my own systems and have a boutique business of building budget, task specific, machines for healthcare practices. I've used both Intel and AMD when asked specifically by the client. But if given leeway, I myself, choose AMD. They are a better unit for the price point. And since 2010, none of the cpus have died with daily use. I've retired some after the ram requirements became more and more needy, and when we were required to push 32 bit OS into 64 bit, needing more than 4 GB of RAM and thus newer Mobos. But newer AMD chips that went with those newer boards have been better value for every day tasks plus healthcare software front ends. And I've been happy that my daily desktop for the last few years has been an AMD 8 core cpu with 32 GB of RAM and video editing and rendering have always been easy tasks for it. Thanks for the review of this processor, Alex Clarke & Lois knows his stuff, brilliant! And of course Linus is the premeire presenter, knowing 99% of the stuff he presents in an efficient manner. Here's to hoping the daily driver lappies (using AMD) are going to drive back to earth some of the pricing insanity (Intel) these last few years has shown.

AMD always had decent budget laptops in the past, just with thin and lights becoming popular, and Intel refining their mobile processors to the brink of impossibility, it was very hard for AMD to compete. I still have an old Turion system in a Gateway that makes a great web browser and DVD player with it's awesome (oversaturated) screen. The A-series laptops though... Terrible. My cousin is still using my MSI GX70, that was one of the most CPU bottlenecked laptops I've ever owned. Now I have a Ryzen 7 2700-based Predator Helios 500, which is just CPU Overkill...

As of right now Lenovo has a discount on their website on the Ryzen 7 model of this laptop for 599 and with a honey code you can bring that down 20-30 USD less. Sadly no pen incuded and its 8 gigs of ram but a upgrade from Ryzen 5 to 7 for less than 100 dollars compared to the amazon price is great AND also twice the storage at 512GB. I think thats a steal in my book. Just some 50 more and you may be able to upgrade the ram on your own time, that is just great.

If you ever earned a high sum each month you'd understand what I mean,that the taxes you pay far exceed by order of magnitude more than a premium medical cover. Also high taxes has a tendency to bite countries in the long run as it destroys economic growth, so you pay 2 fold over for the "free" healthcare.

I have a 2500U/Vega8 from 2017 and AMD has been awesome with keeping it fresh and relevant by releasing optional updates over the past year. Yeah I might have to play on low settings for the latest stuff but I can play them without any hiccups!

This is the first time I've ever purchased something recommended by Linus, let alone sponsored. I did my homework and honestly, now that it's in my hand, I'm surprised how much I like it. It's not the best but for the price it actually ticks the vast majority of boxes for a cheap throw around laptop and does it without any fuss. The keyboard is its only shortcoming. It's fine but definitely not something to write home about. Edit: also.. team Red. Nice budget CPU/integrated graphics solution. It actually works quite well for all the things I want throw at it. The Amazon UK listing for this laptop appears to be an imported US model (has a US keyboard), hence the very silly 989 quid price. Lenovo have confusingly had a lot of previous generations of this laptop all called the Flip. I've seen "Flip 6" mentioned for an older model, so is this the "Flip 7"? I suspect this latest Flip simply hasn't had an official UK release yet - Lenovo UK isn't listing it for example. Note that Amazon Germany has it for 620 Euros ($699) as an import (so Germany doesn't have it either!), which will be closer to the mark when the UK finally gets it. This laptop looks interesting, but a) I'd like to know how well it runs Linux and b) you just know that the next Flip after this will be much better (Zen 2 goodness, assuming Lenovo stick with Ryzen).
