That is actually part of the point. More demanding applications are going to start using AI acceleration to do things faster than X86 instructions are capable of. Everything is already stupid fast for general computing needs, but it still gets faster every year anyway.

​@@blkspade23nothing is fast enough, it depends on what application you used it for. Ai helps with performance even in games but it's still in it's infancy. It's the next step towards performance though since more cores and higher frequency can give you only so much. Back then when they design satellite cpu, it had a lot of cores. Able to get requested without being saturated.but it's a billion dollars CPU the size of a large pizza. I could imagine making a GPU or CPU cram over 1000's core with an optimized software that you could run it in multiple core parallel. So it could compute things in an instant. Like rendering graphic, calculation physics. That will greatly reduce of networking super computer. Not to mention low power consumption. That's not a Farfetch but it's hard to do - but it's very possible at this generation. Multi core in current situation is still not optimized. Current operation system couldn't handle schedule to process thread efficiency and balance. Each core get saturated while other core is left unused. Most programs runs in single thread that being toss to other core but it isn't parallel. That's limitations of the operation system.

I'd beg to differ, at least from the Silicon standpoint. New Chiplet tech, distributed computing platforms are expected to contribute for increases in performance outputs. It's disappointing AI is such a big topic. Because I'm pretty sure all the engineers know that AI-specific acceleration is kind of a scam. Like it doesn't need to be on it's own die, and is mostly driver/microcode development , not so much hardware. And we really don't need this compute power in AI. The real bottleneck is getting data to train on, and the bandwidth to get that data into a system/computer that trains. But most customers don't understand that (even in industry) so they can basically buzz-word an entire segment into existence. And what should atleast make you start believing me, is how quickly they were able to slap NPUs into their processors just several years ago. It required basically no development. AI development used to be accellerated by custom GPU code back when I was in University (just because it was another processor in researchers' computers, and does many parallel processes). I'm not sure why we need little AI chips in everybody's computer. Once an AI is developed, its static. So they want to train the AI... slowly (by a tiny sub-chip)... on your computer. It's dumb at best, and invasive at worst.

It is more efficient (performance and cost) to use NPU chips to do AI than a GPU. It doesn't need as many bits and it is faster to flip fewer bits than more bits. aka FP8.

You don't know the full story, AMD has been a victim of Intel for 1.5 decades starting from 2000s only after 2017, they slowly started to create momentum, if you actually think from historical perspective, AMD has come a long way and this is barely scratching the surface, so 2018 - 2024 I say they did more than some companies do in a lifetime.
