AYA announced that the Air Plus will be using the Ryzen 7520U variant of the Mendocino. The 7520U and 7220U share the same Radeon 610M graphics. The CPU is stronger in the 7520U (4c/8t and boosts to 4.3GHz) so expect better CPU performance especially for emulation. It should be interesting to see what AYA will price the Air Plus.

@@retrotechdad I'll be curious to see if Ayn gets the Loki out anytime this spring, and also whether Anbernic beats them to the punch by releasing something they haven't revealed yet. I have a Win600, which I like a lot. It's an excellent Batocera machine. It's been my most used device of any kind since the day I got it. But now that I realized how much I like x86 handhelds, I might upgrade at some point. I'm seriously considering the GPD Win 4. But in 2024 we'll probably have Ryzen 7 7740U handhelds, which should be the followup to the 6800U. I realize if I always wait for the next thing I'll never upgrade, but I'm thinking I could enjoy the Win600 for another year and then get a 7740U to replace it.
@retrotechdad Жыл бұрын
Same, I think AYN is over promising and really just needs to focus on a product at a time until they can scale up properly. The 6800u is definitely a beast, but for sure if you can keep enjoying your Win600 then that is the smarter move. Save yourself the money and see where the market stands in a few months/year from now.

@@retrotechdad do you think the i3 1215U would be better?
@8lacKhawKtheRIPPER Жыл бұрын
To anyone thinking about getting the AYN Mini - please consider getting the Mini Pro instead. Not because it uses the slightly better 7320u, but because it has a proper 40.5Wh Battery instead of just 26.5 (!). A lot of people seem to ignore that one. If you're not planning on having it plugged in all the time, which kinda sucks for a handheld device, just get the Pro variant. That being said, thanks for the comparison, Rob! I'd argue that most of the actual gains stem from the LPDDR5 memorys massively increased bandwidth, but that can indeed be quite noticable with some titles. I am defintely considering changing my preorder from a Zero to a Mini Pro at this point. I mean, they changed the expected shipping date from q4 '22 to q2 '23 now, so... guess I still got plenty of time to think about that. 🙃

what did you end up doing? i've been thinking of going for the loki mini pro too. do you reckon it should emulate 3DS and Gamecube with no issues? Thanks!
@8lacKhawKtheRIPPER Жыл бұрын
@@argentinaomuerte I cancelled my preorder entirely because money was getting a bit tight and the delays annoyed me. I could probably just buy one of these down the line if they turn out to be decent. Or buy one of the competitors, there will be a crap ton of these around. 🙃 Judging by this video, the performance should be more than fine for that use case~ Maybe look up some more benchmarks for this processor jic. I do have to say though - emulating 3DS games on a single screen makes playing a bit weird and I could never quite get into that. Used 3DSs are dirt cheap and putting a hacked firmware onto 'em has gotten damn easy, so I might just outright recommend doing that instead. I had a great time with my XL for many years~
@argentinaomuerte Жыл бұрын
@@8lacKhawKtheRIPPER thanks for your response! I thought about getting a 3DS or a 2DS XL, but they're way too expensive in my country in comparison just to be able to emulate 3DS (I have a DSi XL). I think I'll just wait for the loki mini pro to release, because my other options are the odin lite and the RP3+ and they can't run GC/PS2/3DS very well. I will have to find another web to buy the loki tho since they don't ship to my country lol
@clausjahnel5379 Жыл бұрын
@migi Having used the Odin lite a lot for the last six months doing mainly PS2 and GC/Wii and I can assure you it plays these very well. There may be some tinkering needed here and there, but most games can run on 1080p or above. 3DS is something else, as the Citra emulator just started to consider optimisations for the d900 chip of the lite. But it made quite some progress in the last weeks and I'm sure it will be really good in a few months. Never felt any regret for sending my money to AYN, this device is crazy good, especially for the price.

Pretty minor, at least in the laptop. The main motivation for using MX4 was to put it on parity with my Win600 and compare temperatures between the two chipsets with the MX4 applied. I have to say I am very impressed by the Mendocino thermals!

@@retrotechdad I picked up the Acer A315-24P with the Ryzen 3 7320U for the heck of it to check out Mendocino and noticed a pretty large temp diff when I swapped the stock TIM with Arctic MX-5.
