It surprised me that the 5700XT is the same if not better than the RTX 3060, but ~100-200 cheaper. This is an amazing option if you don’t look forward to ray tracing and if you would trade DLSS for FSR. Great Video as always Miyconst ❤.

Enjoy watching your videos. I really don't want to retire my MSI Gaming 9 ACK motherboard with 5960X. I've been itching to get more cores especially with the cheap Xeon prices for the V3 so they can be set to boost all cores mod. I thought about E5 2698 V3 or E5 2696 V3 to run with my RTX 3080 and at 3440x1440. I was going to pull the trigger on upgrading my system to 12th gen Intel or go with the 5800X3D as I can then still use my ddr4 ram. Instead I bought another ultrawide monitor (Dell QD-Oled) . However I still have that urge with more cores at a budget since I spent all my money. All the videos I have seen either the Xeon gets its butt kicked, or is on par. I would imagine the higher the resolution, the closer the parity it becomes. I know too many video concentrate on 1080p however. It was nice to see some 1440p scores and was surprised with the results.

At high(er) resolution Xeons still do pretty well, even with a 3080, but games such as Warzone or Fortnite are still gonna be CPU limited, the multiplayer scene is just too heavy for the old Xeons.

Very happy with a used RTX2080Super that I bought for $250 about 5 months ago. I think I got it rather cheaply because it's has blower style cooling. No issue with a headset or bluetooth IEM's. I did a routine cleaning, checked thermal pads, and applied new thermal paste...runs like a charm. Paired to an HZ X79 Deluxe with E5-4627V2 (8C/8T, 3.5GHz all core) for my eldest daughter's VR system. My venerable MSI GTX1080Ti is a very nice match with my office X99TF/E5-2678V3 (12C/24T, 3.2+ Ghz all core). Scored that 1080Ti (used from original owner) just before the GPU bubble (November 2020) for $350. What a great card.

For the last couple of months I have been using an RTX2060 12gb, the "refreshed" version from 2021, in my E5-2698v3 build for editing 4k60 video from a DJI Osmo Action and it has been very VERY nice to work with. I edit with davinci resolve and my edits, which usually include stabilization, color correction and some titles are rendered out through the card at between 90-105fps. For the price of that card there is probably better options but I happened to catch it on sale brand new for $380cdn including taxes

Your xeon choice is interesting, but more interesting is how often the "higher single core performance speed beats greater core count" mantra seems like an anomaly rather than the standard. For reference of those watching the 2696v3 is an 18 core 36 thread CPU with a base clock of 2.3ghz and a boost clock of 3.6ghz, very much optimized for well parallelized loads. In a test of gaming I'd presume the tester would use something like a 2667 v3 to bring your base clock up to 3.0ghz since that turbo boost frequency is only getting a single core up to 3.6 (provided the motherboard isn't forcing an all core boost which may have been a thing in x99 I'm not sure). But that change would have reduced the core count by 10, it also would have been a much cheaper CPU, at least on the American used market, with possibly better results.
@joey_f4ke238
@joey_f4ke238 Жыл бұрын
With v3 xeons you can force the max boost to apply to all cores, that is why the 2696 v3 is the best scenario for xeons since the max boost is 3.8ghz, you can also get a much cheaper 8 core variant but that only goes up to 3,4ghz iirc or the 2620 v3 wich i have (6 core 3.2ghz max boost) it's very inexpensive and it performs decently for the price
@Miyconst

With Turbo Boost Unlock this CPU runs at 3.3 - 3.5 GHz in games, when all 18 Cores are enabled. I could have disabled some cores and made it run at 3.5 - 3.8 GHz, but this video is not about Xeon E5 vs Core i7, it's about GPUs performance on different platforms, thus the 18-Core configuration is good enough and represents the vast majority of the X99 gamers with CPUs like E5-2660 V3 and up.
@AmaraTheBarbarian
@AmaraTheBarbarian Жыл бұрын
@@joey_f4ke238 With turbo boost unlocking available on the board CPU combo I agree that this would be the best in socket chip for purpose, like I said wasn't sure and thus speculated that a chip with a higher base speed would have been preferable. It could still be preferable in a board without that option and when we're talking about xeons I'd wager there are more boards without boost unlocking than ones with. @Miyconst I agree with an unlocked boost this is a best in socket chip for purpose, no argument from me in that respect. You say you're comparing the GPUs on the platform, that leaves both the GPU and the platform up to scrutiny, you do in fact compare these GPUs performance on one chip vs the other making it also a comparison of the CPUs, your graphs demonstrate that by showing relative numbers between the i7's platform and the Xeon's. The results aren't CPU agnostic, that GPU relies relies on data to be sent to it from the CPU, there's a reason you tested 2 high end chips and not a celeron, so chip choice and features like a boost unlock do matter and can change results.

What's in scope of the build? CPU / CPU Cooler / Motherboard / RAM (DDR3 or DDR4) / GPU / SSD or NVMEm.2 / Power Supply / Case. I suppose a budget recommendation would depend on what cash outlay is necessary for needed components. As well, the capability of the components already in hand.

Very interesting to see how well x99 is still doing! It looks like the 5700XT is a great GPU for the price! Even compared to a used 1080 Ti, you can snag those 5700 XT's for a bargain (in North America's ebay prices at least). I think the "fine wine" comes from the fact that the RX 5000 was AMD's step into RDNA instead of GCN. I guess with the newer RDNA cards, AMD's drivers for RDNA has become more mature. Although "waiting for the drivers to get better" doesn't work on all GPUs. I hear the Radeon VII should still be avoided like the plague.

E-Cores help with multi-threaded workloads, when P-Cores have no extra capacity. The problem is that enabling E-Cores reduces the CPUs cache/IMC clock frequency, and that affects gaming performance.

On the other hand In multitasking I noticed this thing does not budge a single bit in fps. @@Miyconst buttercup, don't have to, real world experiences from ex-X99 users (the nonbiased nonfanboy real world users, those are the ones that count) tell all the story that we need. There's a reason that very few were on that platform when it was active and almost nobody, besides the die hard brainwashed souls, are still on today. It's a pathetic overheating power hungray low performing, almost inexistent multicore, very low IPC and single core performing crap architecture from the inferior manufacturer that is Shintel :-).

Lousy take. X99 is still relevant in 2023. You don't know what you're talking about

Hello! 😀 Will it be a good idea to pair a Rx6750 GRE 12GB with a QIyida x99 LGA 2011-3, Xeon E5 2680 V4 and 32 GB of RAM? 🤔

It sounds like a good idea on paper but I didn't test these GPU and motherboard, so I don't know if these are any good.

@@iam_nobody AliExpress is a lottery, compatibility surprises can be found everywhere but in general, it should work.

@@Miyconst I'm going for a brand-new ASUS or GIGABYTE model, not the refurbished ones from various Chinese brands! …so I guess I should be fine! Thanks! 😀
