@JustAGuy85 Жыл бұрын
There's also more than the price of the CPU. There is the price of the motherboard. During this time, equivalent Intel vs AMD motherboards were $60-$80+ higher for Intel. That is why I chose a Ryzen 3600 + Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi for my nephew instead of an Intel 10400 + MSI MAG something something.. and even that MSI board didn't have the same quality as Asus, nor did it have the same amount of USB ports or as robust of a chipset. AND... while my nephew is STILL running his awesome little R5 3600 + B550-F Gaming Wifi, he has the option to slap a 5800x3D in there now whenever his CPU begins holding him back. He currently has a 6600XT in it (mind you, I built this around 2 years ago for his birthday (just before Christmas). And he already has some great RAM... Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3600 C16 2x8GB. He can throw two more in, which will put him in dual rank, slap whatever GPU he wants in there and upgrade to a 5800x3D and be ready to rock for another 5 years (with maybe one more GPU upgrade). Intel honestly just didn't have anything to match that bang for the buck. Not then and ESPECIALLY not in regard to the future upgrades. And after seeing his board and how nice it was, when I built my new PC (upgraded from a couple of PC's I had, one was FX-8350, one was Pentium G4560 which was for a mining rig), I went with the same board as him, except it was the revision II model. Only difference was that his is Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 and mine has Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2. So I have the Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming II + Ryzen 9 5900x + 6700XT + 2x16GB DDR4 3600 C16 dual rank. It's the only dual rank kit in that Ripjaws Series V line up. I've went through all of my timings (well, okay, 65% to MAYBE 70% of the options) and fine tuned the timings. She's a BEAST. I get around 65,000 MB/s (65GB/s) Read/Write/Copy speeds in AIDA64. Everyone else gets 55GB/s. I guess it's a combo of the dual rank and timings. Maybe just the dual rank. I dunno. Know what the issue with these builds are? THEY'RE BORING haha. He hasn't had one single issue with any single part or anything that I bought or built for him. That's great, yes, but also... it's boring if you know what I mean. For the first year, I was always like "How's your computer doing?" and he'd always be like "good." Aww... no problems at all for me to fix 😞

The best possible situation we can hope for is that Intel and AMD keep swapping the "crown" back and force with each new release. That controls pricing and compels both to keep innovating. I play games at 3440x1440 and generally upper range settings on a 3900X/2080Ti, so I'm largely GPU bound. These new CPUs wouldn't be a significant upgrade for me, but I'm happy to see AMD continuing to do well.

Couldnt agree more, we need competition and intel just needs to get it together and come out with something new. Hoping they stick to the next fall time frame for 10nm. Yeah i know its not the GREAT 7nm that AMD has, but if they can get this type of performance out of 14nm, I'm interested to see what they will do with 10nm and how it will compare to AMDs new 5nm process. We should have many great years ahead of us for choosing fantastic cpus
@BasedAstraea2 жыл бұрын
Considering recent developments by Intel with massive amounts of bravado and an OG running things again, it seems Intel will come back on top finally. However I believe their crown will be very short lives, as I see Zen 4 absolutely annihilating Intel with a DDR5/AM5/5nm launch. Meanwhile the newest Intel chips years after will STILL be on DDR4 and 14nm, maybe 7nm. Unless Intel adopts DDR5 and AMD's philosophy, there won't be much crown switching. Maybe Intel can better compete with GPUs. Maybe Nvidia destroys Intel with their ARM x86 CPUs.

Because most users run _at_ stock/PB. Additionally, since every chip is binned differently, overclocking expectations need to be managed. Ryzen traditionally performs better in games with PB/XFR enabled rather than an all-core OC because one or two cores can boost far beyond what an all-core can do. And I'm not about to per-core OC. @Dan The Man I know what you mean but I want cyberpunk and my CPU just won't cut it. Unfortunately I don't want to wait for Zen 4 and whilst I could get a budget build using Zen 2 I feel the strides in performance this year is good enough to upgrade as ever. Of course upgrading from Zen 2 to Zen 3 is a no no. On a seperate note, the Zen 4 will be a new process and may come with kinks which Zen 5 or 4+ will iron out so I think going big on the end of a generation isn't a bad shout.

Those Time Spy CPU scores are weird. 5900X scoring practically identically to 5800X and 3900XT looks like it's a software issue. BTW, doesn't GTA V actually have sort of a cap a bit above 180 fps in the engine after which it starts to act weird?

I don’t build a gaming pc for more than 10 years, this year I’ve decided to build one and get back to gaming. I just bought a 5800x online, I know that the difference in performance from the 5600x is not much in gaming, but I also do some video editing from my vacations, etc. also I think it will be more “future” proof compared with the 5600x, because I don’t intend to do any upgrades for the next 5 years :) Also because probably is the last gen of Ryzen with am4 socket.. I mostly agree with your conclusion! However I do believe a large swath of gamers are already on a Ryzen platform making this upgrade a no brainer. I also believe the 5800X will drop in price, the 5900X as well. The 5600 and 5700 will definitely be the sweet spot and I'm willing to bet that gaming performance will be equal or close to the benchmarks shown today! The 5600 may even perform better with over clocking! Less cores may give it more thermal head room. The reason i believe this is because as we've seen with the 3300X, thermal head room can give a great OC and a great OC on Ryzen can give amazing in game performance! It only has 4 cores 8 threads, but most games don't use much more than 4 threads.

AMD finally matches INTEL performance... But then they jack the price HIGHER than Intel, and they don't even include a cooling solution any more... I get it, it's like Nintendo or Apple, higher prices help the public perceive your product as higher end... But I don't care about all that, ehh, I guess I'll stick with Intel then. 10700K is cheaper than AMD's competing 8 core (never thought I'd say that), and performs about the same (granted, didn't think I'd say that either).... But almost $100 less, for same performance is a no brainer. Intel it is again I suppose then.

AMD is essentially a new Intel. But this time with even higher prices and abysmal thermals.
@bliglum3 жыл бұрын
@@MJ-uk6lu I was just noticing those abysmal thermals... What's with that? Also, surprisingly high power draw compared to Intel, one would have thought the 7nm litho would have netted them a better result than equal to power consumption between the 5900X and 10900K, with the latter's massive 14nm construction.. Edit: Then, there are those two extra cores on the 5900X..
@MJ-uk6lu3 жыл бұрын
@@bliglum Go watch der8auer videos about lithographies. In short they are 3D structures and consist of several parts, so on box you only see marketed lithography, while internally it's a whole lot different. Despite popular belief Intel 14nm+++ chips had many components similar in size compared to AMD 7nm TSMC, so the only difference was really just in marketing. I still recommend you to watch those videos as he explains that in depth and shows actual sizes of different components inside CPUs. Those are really interesting videos. Also it seems that modern CPU maker mentality about boosting is different at least in laptops. I saw a conversation on net, where somebody asked AMD engineer what's up with high heat and incomplete boosting. The reply was that as long as it reaches base clock it's fine and if it doesn't reach thermal envelope limits then it's just wasted potential performance. So it seems that no matter what cooling you have, according to CPU manufacturers user shouldn't tweak CPU parameters such as clock speed and voltage, because CPU should automatically do it itself. I think that similar mentality is starting to enter desktop computers, but I don't agree with it. I would much more prefer dead silent cooler with 70C CPU temperature and clock speeds slightly above base speed. In fact I would love to see some low power consumption CPU models without any boost for computers that are turned on for a long time (for example for CPU crunching). But it seems that AMD isn't interested in such things.
