I've been building gaming pc's for 20+ years and core clocks, memory speed and latency are more of a factor when trying to get the most performance from your gpu. And most modern titles are just starting to take advantage of multi cores as most games has been single core driven for years in fact even a 6/12t in today's standards is more than enough in AAA games.

It is remiss of this video not to mention that, and although we can only speculate if that will come to other games, it is something people should be aware of in choosing a gaming CPU. Without meaning to sound condescending, if you're actually testing CPU's , in Cyberpunk you should have ray tracing and crowd density completely maxed out and go to a CPU stress point. Same with Tomb Raider - RT on Ultra increases CPU utilization by around 25%

@udenost4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was wondering about that too.
@mukundmurali37204 жыл бұрын
The cpu already handles various processing tasks. In addition to them it needs to prepare for the next frame, so if u put a 3000series card for 1080p gaming with unlocked frame rates, the cpu might not be able to prepare those many frames in limited time.
@AJPMUSIC_OFFICIAL4 жыл бұрын
Say the cpu has to make 5 calculations for every frame of gameplay. At 60fps thats 300 calculations a second. If we lower the resolution the gpu has less work to do resulting high frame rates eg 150fps which would now be 750 calculations a second for the cpu.
@BOKtober4 жыл бұрын
The more frames per second your getting the more calculations your cpu has to do each second, 60fps could be 60 calculations per second compared to 120fps would be 120 calculations
@ace0523304 жыл бұрын
Lol. The lower your resolution the more work your cpu has to do not less. 1080P bottlenecks your cpu thus gpu much more than 1440P and 4k. The more pixels you have the more work your GPU has to do. Once you go to higher resolutions your GPU bound. I don’t get why people play at 1080P personally. 1440P looks MASSIVELY better and isn’t even that much harder to run especially if someone is being cpu limited at 1080P. Not to mention you can and have been able to easily get a nice 27-32 inch 1440P 144hz monitor for around 300-350 dollars for a few years now. The lower the resolution you play at the better and faster cpu and single core performance you need. If you’re building a budget system it doesn’t matter regardless. Simple answer is the higher your resolution the more work that gets off loaded to the GPU instead and once your GPU hits 100% usage in games which you want always, then you’re GPU bound and that’s what you want.

I love the effort and the insight this video brings because it gives the viewer the come up with their own conclusion on how many cores they actually need for their own gaming/pc situation. However when explaining this type of thing you need to dumb it down as a lot of people dont understand. To just simplify 6 cores is MINIMUM in 2023. 8 core is more ideal and everything over that is luxury. To people wondering if 6 is ideal why not just stop there? is because the more cores and threads you have the better the fps. and no just more better the fps you get better frame pacing, which means you will have less micro stutters in your game the more cores and threads you have.

@@Moonmonkian thank you I'm just in the planning stage for my build and the CPUs are confusing me a bit I do have the budget to get a 5900x but from what I've seen it's not actually worth it for just gaming
@drewpass56974 жыл бұрын
Pretty interesting to see performance of all 3 and show that more cores isn't everything (at least not so for gaming). I got the 5800x at msrp, which I know I know is overpriced. However, 5900x has been impossible to get at msrp and so has the 5600x. The scalp prices for the 5600x are at the same costs or higher than the msrp of 5800x.

Maybe in the future if you compare something like this is to put the graph on the frame rate and also put the CPU usage percentage

I went from a ryzen 7 3700x to ryzen 9 5900x and let me say, while the 12 cores are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, as this very second with the technology and games we have, 8 cores is more than enough.

True that - the single core perf of 5000 series is mad though

Good video, but I got more out of the CPU utilisation and some references to stuttering when you dropped back to a 4 core. Honestly I took from this that 6 cores is enough ... for now. I think if someone’s building a new PC and wants it to last 3 years you’ll need 8 cores.
@Soordhin4 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the timeframe. I realised, already a few years back, that i slowly went from a yearly upgrade cycle to every two years, 3 years and now i am on 5+ years per PC. Currently still running an old 6700k on a dual 1440p setup. Since it is time for a new build, it will be a 5950x (yes, i know about the supply problems, but i can wait a month or two if needed) with a 3080, although i might have to go for a 3090 instead as those are available, the 3080s not. In that case i might have to settle for a 2TB nvme boot drive instead of a 4 or 8 TB. Since i will probably use that setup for a fair few years, i rather spend a bit more and go for a higher core count, thanks to the performance of the AMD stock over the last year that is well within my price range, all in all, around €5.000 for a new build without accessories or screens is not too much.

From your videos it looks like you’ll be using your pc to edit videos and other shit like that? The 3090 is pretty much the best card money can buy and if your spending that kind of money it’s probably worth getting something with more cores.

I would go with a 5800x or 5900x - 5600x will be fine in most games, but for creative apps you'll want more than 6 cores

I'd say that 8 Cores should be considered a minimum while building PCs in 2021. Some might not agree but if you want to be playing a game and having 10 different things open in you system tray while listening to music you shouldnt settle for less. You might even want to go 12 cores if you have some extra cash.
