It doesn't even have descreet GPU, whats the point of this ridiculous limitation on tdp?! 3rd noone needs Ai, at this point AI is just a marketing bullsht 4th this generation ryzen uses Mediatec wi-fi chip, which is just bad, it drops wi-fi, just as expected, mediatec modems had this problem in past and still didn't fixed it 5th no support so-dimm ram this isn't that bad if we mind new ram for laptop standard but asus want your money so they don't give you an option. 6th bad vent holes placing, id you close your laptop and try to use it with external display it will overheat, cus you covering up vent holes with screen This laptop and probably this gen of ryzen processor is 100% no-go for me

Based on battery life the snapdragon x elite is much better. Performance is obviously better with amd or intel in most applications since they are all still x86
@andyH_England3 ай бұрын
The X Elite has diminished returns the more power it is fed, so at a point on the power graph it matches Intel and AMD. Before that it will be more efficient. So as usual it depends on the work you do. But I expect this AMD S16 will easily get you through a day of mixed work according to other reviews I have seen. But none match the M3 chips for efficiency at higher work loads. For comparison of 1080p Notebookcheck for 20h SOT which matches or beats most X Elite models. Of course, once you use WiFi or 4K then these drop substantially on both AMD and X Elite.

I'm baffled why Asus put a 12 core chip in a chassis so thin and with such crippled cooling and power delivery that it only gives the performance of 6 cores when running flat out. Feels like what Apple did with their intel chip macbooks... this thing CANNOT use the full 12 cores under multi core workloads. They're trying to run a chip that needs 50W in 28W.
@andyH_England3 ай бұрын
This is an ultrabook where efficiency>performance. There's nothing wrong in having lower power consumption - quite the contrary.
@123Suryasis3 ай бұрын
@wojciechjabonski9118 I did not say that. I was saying that it should have a higher power limit. A higher power limit doesn't mean that it will always run on that power all the time. It means that when required, like during gaming, it can utilize it to increase the performance. Also, that can be very easily controlled by Power profile settings by adding an extra performance mode. You can simply choose a lower perfomode while doing basic tasks like office work and choose a higher performance mode when doing demanding works, enabling it to use higher power, say 45W. Applications that use both cpu and gpu together can have significant performance jump with slightly higher power budget. Example, gaming, video editing, etc.

@@123Suryasis As I understand, the limit is set by OEMs (ASUS in this case) depending on computer's chassis. This is a tiny laptop. You cannot just increase the limit without the chassis re-design. You should be judging the device for what it is (lightweight laptop, not a gaming machine/workstation).

Hope lunar lake does not disappoint. Not quite sure it won't tbh, but hey better and better chips from every brand are great for the consumer, as it drives the market with more competitive prices. That's kinda one of the reasons why apple can charge so much for macbooks, they unrivaled right now. There are windows laptops that beat the macbooks in either performance, desing, or battery (surface 7) but not in all three. Not even two. At max they can win one category and tie one or tie in two Hopefully these new generations of chips help to dethrone macbooks as unrivaled winners, even if you are apple fanboy that'll be great news as they would continue to be great machines but probably a little bit cheaper.

I don’t think the gaming benchmarks are going to reflect handheld performance. There’s no way it would perform the same or worse compared to the X. I know ASUS is able to customize how much power is allocated to CPU and GPU power in their bios for the Ally. Guessing there’s a mismatch of power allocation here.
