@Jito4637 жыл бұрын
+Zeinzu Debisu You do know that AMD's thermals on Ryzen are significantly better than Intel at the moment; and it's not the first time that Intel ran hot and AMD was the cool running CPU. AMD and Intel go back and forth in that department all the time. Given that TR and Epyc are both based on the same modular architecture as Ryzen, there's no reason to believe they'll run any hotter than it does.

I'm a gamer, so my opinion will be based on that aspect of things. I'm torn between the two..Intel or AMD. I have used both in my builds, both did well for what I needed them for. My first complete build was pieced together for $190, everything brand new. I opted for an AMD A6-7400k @ 4.5ghz and paired it with 8gb 1600mhz ddr3. It worked and got me playing at 720p on low-medium settings. My current build is utilizing an Intel i7-6700k @ 4.4ghz and a gtx 970. Needless to say that this is the better performer and I can now crank 1080p at maxed out settings, I also spent roughly ten times the cost of my AMD build ($190) on my Intel build ($2011). That being said, if I had to chose one, ill most likely go back to AMD. The value you get with Ryzen and the performance being that of the i7-6950x territory for 1/4 the price cannot be ignored. More bang for your buck. In the end a lot of us gamers are everyday people with other priorities as well and the value aspect will always win us over. I am aware that you get what you pay for, but with Ryzen you essentially pay less for more. Where gaming is concerned, it really comes down to your GPU and sonewhat on your RAM anyway. So I feel on a gaming rig , money should be spent on your GPU and even a moderate CPU like an Intel i5 or a Ryzen 5 will do the trick just to avoid extensive bottlenecking of said GPU. Thats my two cents. Thanks for the vid Jay! Keep up the good work. Studio looks awesome!
@johntotten48727 жыл бұрын
If you spent $2011 on a 6700k and 970 combo you way over spent on alot of crap you didnt need. You could have built a kick ass system with those parts for easily $1200 that would last for years. To each his own spend your money how you want. Amd gives you better value most times but also sometimes you have trade offs to get the better value.
@Maxsation24817 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know. At the time I had the cash and the i7-6700k just came out and the GTX 970 was what I wanted for my ITX build. I wanted to future proof it as much as possible, and I know I have a few more years out of this rig at least before I have to upgrade. By that time I anticipate a vast majority of companies will be delivering way better options than we have now as well.

I'd go with AMD this time because I want to help the pc community have better choices. AMD is aiming for a bigger market share guys, and when that happens, Intel will be brought down to its knees and have to compete with the most optimized price to perf on every release and that's a win-win for US.
@Dragoninja8337 жыл бұрын
Probably not. I'm sure businesses are who buy the most CPU's and appropriate hardware. These companies are going to be looking for things that are reliable, work, and are efficient. AMD was previously none of those things while remaining effective. Bringing intel to it's knees would take at least 10 to 15 years minimum. They haven't pulled out all of their guns yet, as they have had a long snooze while AMD was getting their crap together.

For the last 8 years I had owned Intels HEDT platforms. Why? In my view, the Intel quad cores i3/i5 always had a really terrible price/perf ratio. The X58 was just GREAT, the X79 was okay but the X99 was really expensive. Why i feel like that ? I got little performance increase for an obscene amount of money - the performance increase over x79 was little, It was frustrating, not to mention the amount of problems this platform has had suffered with till end 2015. Now, I sold both my X99 combos 4 month's before the Ryzens R7 came out and with the money from the sale of my X99 combos I was able to score two X370 builds for less money. I did that and I am pretty happy with my decision as the X370@1700 makes the 5820K look like a 10 year old CPU, and for most of the time ( software ), the 1700 outperforms the E5-2667 V3 that costed me more than a thousand dollars. Now, is that saying as if Intel is guilty of anything ? Hell no, Intel is a business and will always want to make the most of it - if you happen to have that crazy amount of, defending quad cores, dreaming of quad cores, buying quad cores, then, as a business, that's what you do, you should give them what they want, for the price they are willing to pay and if you just need to stamp a i7 in front of such processor then hell do it. Now, if you ask me that if that is any good market ? Hell no, it sucks and it is sad that now days most of consumers are sooooooooooooo uneducated and biased about tech that they are willing to spend $ 350 on a quad core that: 1- Is better only in a few games. 2- Get's crushed in MT. 3- Need a really good cooling ( $$$$ ) solution. 4- Will be less than good for gaming in a few years. I bet that 70% of these guys don't even know how the Intel "turbo" works. I can't help, I go with company that is providing the best value for my money, that's all that matters for me - AMD definitely deserved my money.

My biggest problem with this new lineup is there is no more good better best option. Intel seems to be following AMD and Nvidia on you have to hit ever price point in between. This is unfair to the customer because it forces to compromise more on our builds. Have a 6 core only have 28 lanes is a bit ridiculous and forces adopters to buy the more expensive sku. 5930k was the sweet spot for content creators 6 cores and 40 lanes of PCI-e and now they are cutting their skus down to make the top CPU look that much more beefier than the rest of the lineup.

AMD, going with intel would just be anticonsumer, we need more competition in the market and what better way to do that than to support a company which pushes for the good of the consumer, AMD freely share their technology for others to use because they believe that if more people can access the technologies, while intel keeps their technologies hidden away because they want money for the technology they worked for, and although there is nothing wrong with wanting money for the technology you invented, you still should keep the consumer in mind, check out BulletBarry for a more elaborate video, but my point is, supporting AMD will force Intel to compete, and we want better CPUs.

I like both Intel and AMD, I go based off performance per $. Right now I would give my third ball (yes for real, polyorchidism look it up) just to see a really good video editing/compiling comparison with the different Ryzen chips vs Intel. Run some premier pro some hitfilm 4 and some handbrake etc. show me how much time I will save with a 8/16 ryzen vs a 6/12 ryzen vs a 7700k and a 7600k. That would make my day!

This is unlikely to work. Game engineers currently write and compile their code that is specific to a processor brand. In this case, Intel. In coming years as AMD overtake or become more equal with Intel in popularity as the cpu of choice by gamers, this will change. I am looking forward to when this happens.
@robotspartan91007 жыл бұрын
I think you're right - the balls in intels court IPC is still an Intel win, so assuming identical clock speeds the Intel chips will likely perform slightly better in single threaded/low thread tasks. But then these chips are all about workstations where single core isn't much of a concern. What matters is potential throughput Someone (like myself) who's machine is a workstation first, gaming rig second, will take the 5% frame loss in games for improved productivity. At that point AMD becomes the logical decision, unless Intel come back from fantasy when it comes to pricing. (assuming AMD max out around £1k for a CPU) Regardless, it's good to see competition again. The CPU market has stagnated in terms of inovation over the last few years, and this will hopefully force it Also, bloody love that new pre-roll. One of the best i've seen thus far
@BrewintheMost7 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! Depending on how Intel chooses it's price ranges and how aggressive they want to be could change a lot with where they stand. Now as far as IPC goes, you do get far higher throughput speeds when Ryzen is paired with high-speed RAM as it ramps up with infinity fabric. And they did say that for their new ThreadRipper that they would be expanding even further into high RAM speed. I'm excited to see how much they pull off but, if it doesn't improve much then it wouldn't have been worth it to mention it anyways. Kinda interesting how RAM speeds have nearly been unnoticeable and borderline irrelevant on most recent platforms, maybe we will see a drop in DDR4 price sooner than we thought? Either way, Ryzen at 4000MHz would be something to see! As far as using their new processors for a workstation though, if Intel REALLY doesn't have an equivalent 16-C 32-T processor to match the ThreadRipper than I'm interested to see what price point AMD will go with as this is right where I would be looking to buy. They could go exponentially high (something like Intel's current lineup), but that would almost seem to work against itself. I'd almost expect their price to match or be slightly higher than the lower (and potentially weaker with higher RAM speeds?) 12-C 24-T i9 7920X. Four free physical cores? Hell yeah! I'll take SIX! It seems like for the last decade or so there haven't been many improvements in the CPU market. But that has definitely changed since the beginning of this year! Time to move over GPUs these Threads are about to get Ripped.... (you are welcome)
@connivingkhajiit7 жыл бұрын
the amd chips had a much higher overall core count, and since zen actually proved to have a faster IPC with high speed memory I believe IPC for these chips not only doesn't matter but would probably be equal for both
@robotspartan91007 жыл бұрын
Higher RAM does help AMD's infinity fabric, but without knowing the workings of the architecture; I mean, does it make a difference in single thread tasks?
@BrewintheMost7 жыл бұрын
@Spartan Well, I don't think that the higher RAM speeds help as much for single threaded applications. However I know that it does help Cinebench scores even if it is smaller changes than multiple Threaded performance boosts. That may be because it boosts the "fabric" that each core uses to talk to one another and doesn't do much else for single cores themselves? Regardless, I would have to agree with you on the single threaded issue. So all in all Ryzen's IPC can be, lets call it, hot-patched for multi threaded use with higher RAM speeds to increase throughput; but it's throughput isn't as easily fixed per core. Edit: Should be something like a 9-10% boost for single threads (at 3466 CL14. It was the highest I could get on my current setup) and 12-15% for multi threaded use. But that is only using Cinebench as well, so there may be some heavy variation between different "real life" scenarios.
@connivingkhajiit7 жыл бұрын
Gomenasai-Kōhai its because the infinity fabric slowed down the single threaded tasks but ram speed determine the fabrics speed

I have to say, I'm really tempted to hop on the AMD bandwagon, if only because I want to support AMD's efforts in gaining market share so we can see some actual competition. I've loved every intel chip I've owned (Core2Quad 6600 -> i7 920 -> 4790k) but some real competition between these two companies and getting intel to play ball with cost might be worth jumping on an untested platform. The masses won't really be affected by all of these high-end processors unless they are aggressively priced enough to affect the CPUs beneath them, I doubt it though with such high thread counts. I'm more interested in the budget end tbh. I feel like the best course of action for AMD is to release a quad core ryzen cpu to compete with the pentium G4560 near the $80 price range. Just imagine what would happen. Something that performs like a broadwell i5 would be available for less than 80 bucks... Theoretically, if AMD attacks the low end like this, every pentium and i3 would be rendered useless and every i5 would be rendered overpriced as fuck despite the higher ipc. Ryzen already did this in a sense but the single threaded performance is still lacking a bit but at $80, who the hell would care? As for intel's response to this theoretical situation, personally, I'm hoping for a true quad core Coffee Lake Pentium. Budget gamers gonna have a good time in 2018 if my predictions are right.
@BrewintheMost7 жыл бұрын
Well we've already seen AMD's price points for the R7 start to blend Intel's current HEDT platform into the mainstream set. This put the ball into Intel's court to either respond by applying an even bigger gap (can you imagine?) between the two platforms - or to help fuse the two together. I'd bet that's why then (FINALLY) named their high-end chips the i9. Without the rename, you wouldn't have a clue what the difference was between the 4-C 8-T Kaby Lake and this new 4-C 8-t Kaby Lake. In fact the difference is mostly what the motherboard compatibilities will be. More PCI-E slots maybe? That used to be a major difference back when quad-SLI was a thing... But now we will just have to see what tricks Intel has for their new X299 boards, cause I doubt Octane is going to be big enough (anyone with differing views should share something on that as I am curious to know how others feel). If there isn't anything jaw-dropping then I'll take my 5% IPC drop and my Vega Nova and be on my way. Anyways, what I was originally going at was that these new chips might actually have an impact on the lower line processors because of their positioning. Maybe not the Celeron/Pentium range but over a couple years that might change. It's an interesting time in the market for sure!

good systems ? because a 1800x or 4790K are bad right ? I'm in a new i5-6600k build with a light overclock. Gaming performance is rock solid but when I do photography work from my full frame 36MP camera it absolutely crawls. There is no question that my next build will be Ryzen based. The sleeper is the AMD partnership with Bethesda - I know they are going to be driving much more multi-threaded games code and the results will shock the industry. I'm in for either Ryzen 2 late next year or Threadripper sooner.
