too bad the X3D's are non-overclockable in any aspect and you get basically worse performance because you can't underclock it as much as you need.

Where did you hear that? They are 100% overclockable. They just have lower clock speeds out of the box for stability but they are able to reach the same clock speeds as normal chips with sufficient cooling. In fact, the current world record overclock for the 9800x3d so far is 7.24 GHz.
