AMD doesn't have the "throttle back" feature so that cores don't end up burning out. but it is a bit more pricey but will definitely last longer than an AMD would. you cant just slap comments on the web like that because people will end up buying what they don't know so much about and might regret it later on because it wasn't what they were expecting.

There are two major kinds of men - those who can appreciate efficient and cheap overclocked customized things and those who just want to have best stuff on the market no matter what. Intel vs Amd, Apple vs Android devices. They are both right.

+Dmitry Kim Apple products provide at or below par specs at an extremely high cost when considering competitors. If you want to talk tech I can explain to you why an Intel 4-core will annihilate an AMD 8-core any day of the week, but I would rather not turn on my desktop to copy and paste my pre-formulated argument that I already inserted several other times in the comment section of this video.

+Dmitry Kim Take a $130 AMD CPU, pin it against a $130 Intel CPU. Then tell me how hard the AMD ass whooping was. Here is my write up on the matter since several other's requested it. I do not approve of AMD octa-cores for gaming as I used to, and this is why. Floating-point schedulers allow a CPU to make calls to a GPU to allow the GPU to solve the problems that the GPU is made to do. That being said, Intel has one Floating-point scheduler per core, and AMD only has one every two cores. Now, in addition Intel has far superior single core performance, it is known that DX11 does not know how to distribute a workload well past 4 cores. The argument then becomes, when DX12 comes out AMD's octa-core will surely win then huh? Not so fast due to the the discrepancy with floating-point schedulers Intel still is winning by a large margin in the benchmarks I have seen. However people are saying that DX-12 will put them into the range of competition, they say that the i5 4690k will no longer smoke the FX-8350 as it did in the past... but is this true? No the 4690k will smoke any FX series processor because the iGPU can be used for coprocessing with the main GPU. However at the low end, if you pair a A-series processor with a GPU you will be in the range of competition with an i3, but the i3 will still win by 5-15%. Further more there is one more factor that has not been acknowledged as of yet, for a game to properly take advantage of DX12 the programmers would have to go through the hell there is programming at a low level, that and the fact that programmers whom already have a finished their games are highly unlikely to re-do their games. Hence why I cannot stand by any FX series chips. Despite that, I hold high hopes for the Zen series.

+Dmitry Kim The truths you have laid down with your words are mighty truthy. You're right, it always annoys me when people get into the PC vs Mac debate. I have a PC and I am very fond of it, but I have also had Macs and been very fond of them too. It all depends on what I'm primarily doing at the time, if I want a laptop for browsing, music, video, video editing or audio editing, I would go with the Mac. But PCs are getting better in that regard too. Gaming machine on the other hand, PC all the way, but I use to have a MacBook Pro with Windows on it that was actually a pretty good gaming machine. They all have their roles.

AMD really has dropped the ball on the CPU market since 2010. The Phenom series were AMAZING. Currently using an Intel i7 4790K because AMD doesn't have any AM3+ Mini ITX motherboards. AMD however really picked up on the GPU market, so I'm using Intel CPU and AMD (XFX) GPU. Crossing fingers that the 2016 Zen processor from AMD is the next Phenom.

Just throwing this in. 5 years ago, I wanted to build a budget gaming PC. The standard at the time was to go with an Intel i5-2500K. So I factored that into my budget, only to realise that left me with $0 for a graphics card! I looked over to see what AMD had to offer, went with an FX-4170 (Phenom II X4 sold out unfortunately, 4170 on sale cheaper than 4100!). Savings went into a sweet Sapphire 6850 graphics card. Now in 2015, system runs terrific, handles my games just fine. Both bad boys overclocked, FX-4170 at 4.6GHz (whole 1 GHz over 4100!), Sapphire 6850 at 900/1050 (stock 6870 speeds, without the extra shaders). Is my system faster than one with an Intel i5-2500K? No. Did I get a good deal on the AMD system with a 6850 graphics card? Yes! There you have it, that's my take.

As for pure performance AMD can't beat Intel. The flipside is that Intel CPUs tend to be more expensive and often come with restrictions. Non "K" versions for example can't really be overclocked. AMD on the other hand may provide less performance but offer very good prices and good performance at the same time. You won't find a quadcore CPU from Intel anywhere near the price AMD is selling them. Also their APUs have really good integrated graphics which are actually suited for gaming while Intels graphics usually suck. It basically comes down to what you need. Performance? Intel. Looking to spend just enough to get a good CPU? AMD.

I pick AMD because 1.) It's more affordable and 2.) I do a lot of 3D rendering with multi-threading, and AMD is sometimes better for those types of applications. I've been running this Phenom II X6 1100T for 3+ years now, running renders that go on for ~12 - 24 hours and I've over clocked this thing so many times past 4.0GHz; it never overheated on me. I abuse this thing when doing my work... This chip is beyond reliable and is not "cheap" but rather, "affordable". I sure can't wait to upgrade my Motherboard soon so I can slide in one of these AMD FX-8370 Processors :)...And for the record, I recently bought a really nice gaming laptop with a Intel Processor. So I may be a AMD fan boy, but I'm not biased!

The thing is that if you are going to build a high end pc.. AMD doesnt have really good high end cpu:s compared to intel. Even if intel costs more its not worth getting a cheap ass cpu on a 2000€ pc build.. AMD cpu:s have really good value when you are building a budget pc (under 800€) and when over that intel has better preformance
@bansku4558 жыл бұрын
+Eda Kanerva also AMD is better for editing,rendering and office work when intel is better for gaming preformance
@spacedave20008 жыл бұрын
+Gary Meyers it's also literally 3-7X's the price. In Canada the highest end AMD is under $300. The highest end Intel is over $2500. Only elite 1% rich people or hyper performance obsessed individuals can afford this. I'll wait for Zen anyways and save loads and loads of money vs. Intel and take slightly slower performance.

Gary Meyers when we put Low and even mid end cpus amd wins.But that can cange with the zen processors... Renember 2012? When AMD defeated intel with 30% worse IPC? Now it is only 5% worse... but those skylake cpus are pretty good.

When i produce music i use a lot of analog emulation software which takes a lot of cpu as well as the sound design so a good CPU would be alot of help. I read that intel has hyper threading (not all, my current pc doesn't have it) which doubles the power,but i'm not sure if it's supported by all software from games to music production software. Is hyper threading worth that much to choose Intel over AMD?

Hey if i am buying a laptop strictly for streaming movies and tv shows and just watching shows and movies, or downloading music on to my ipod from itunes, which processor would be recommended?!
@soju69jinro7 жыл бұрын
I prefer AMD CPU. Why? I do Counter-Strike Maps, meaning I create some maps. Then I'd have to do rendering. At Intel's quad core running @ 3.5 Mhz, that's going to take a long time. I currently have AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 Mhz (4.2 Mhz at Turbo), which has 6 cores. I can fully utilize all 6 cores and run them roughly around 4.0 MHz, and finish my rendering without waiting too long. AMD is my way to go if you want to do rendering/engineering on a budget. College students/high school students should mainly stick with AMD. When you finish college and have a well-paying job, go upgrade into Intel. That's where the line should separate, in my honest opinion.

Gameplay Gamma it's because of the way the cores handle things for example in programs that use 6 real physical cores the fx 6300 beats any intel processor below the 6950k but then in gaming it's reversed and the fx gets shit on in all games where it hasn't been optimized for real cores
@Wizkid49010 жыл бұрын
I generally prefer AMD for two simple reasons. Firstly, it is cheaper. I recently saw an i5 for over $230, whereas the FX-8320 I am using in my next build costs only about $120. Given point two, this makes the choice a no-brainer. My second reason is that AMDs TEND to be faster at multi-core/multi-threaded operations. Since I do a lot of video editing, and my gaming is largely either older or works well with multiple cores, I took the much lower price for similar or better performance in my situation. That simple. That said, however, I have used Intel in several PCs and they have all performed fine. As a side note, I have actually never had similar level AMD and Intel CPUs to compare. All of my Intels have been higher end, while my AMDs have been in budget systems. In all cases, they have both performed well.
@keeganlubbe247010 жыл бұрын
In gaming, Intel is better, but in video editing, at least when on a budget, AMD is better. One question: WHERE did you find an FX-8320 for $120??? They are usually $170 - $180.

Best I could do now was $190 with a motherboard: www.frys.com/product/8135525?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG Still not a bad deal. Motherboard seems pretty good, with OC support, 4 PCIe ports, USB 3.0, etc. Sorry about that... I know I saw one for about $130, and I thought that was the regular price... I did find one for $150 regular price on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B009O7YU56/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Wizkid490 Wow. The prices have really gone down from when I built my PC. The cheapest I could find then was $175. That's why I opted for the not much more expensive (at the time) i5-4670k. Maybe if prices were as they are now, I would've gotten that and used the extra cash on a better GPU. Ah well.

Common Misconception: "amd is better because its cheaper" Truth: *WRONG!! AMD is NOT cheaper than intel. Stop comparing the amount of cores each processor has. Intel and AMD has the same price if you go by the actual performance/benchmarks rather than how much cores it has. An i5 or even a high end i3 will have similar performance to a 4-8 core AMD and a 4 core intel will have similar performance to a 8-16 core AMD.*

I'm not poor & I usually go with AMD. However, The reason I probably have a lot of money is because I don't spend it foolishly, and I've never had anything I needed to run that a cheaper AMD chip couldn't handle. So, Its nice to save money occasionally, its just some Intel processors cost more than entire builds that can be had with AMD. To me that doesn't make sense, so until I absolutely need an i7 I won't be getting one (although those new 8 core Intel chips are tempting me!)

LegendsXXX2 They're is certain price points on of a budget where going for intel or AMD suits best for that, I have an intel i5 4670k and It is perfect for what I do on my pc, however, I could have probably have gotten away with a fx 6300 and overclocking it but hey-ho it's done now hah. The way I look at it is, if you're strictly gaming then you should get an intel because of the stronger single cores, and if you're doing things like rendering, video editing, photo shop etc you should go for AMD because of the more cores (you could get a 6 core intel but that would cost you x10 as much as a 6 core AMD)
@mephlesn50209 жыл бұрын
Peraflix Usually it's just the opposite, if you look at benchmarks for video editing and rendering you go with Intel because they have hyperthreading which most games won't even take advantage of and those extra threads will make it so much more faster when editing. And when going with a gaming rig you'd go with AMD because they are so much cheaper and will run games as well as an intel chip if not better in some cases. And most games now will utilize multi cores so having a strong single core doesn't really mean anything specially with modern games. Even streaming gameplay, AMD cards will even run better than intel chips $200+ more than the AMD in some cases.

David Fearnley-Jones NVIDIA is speeding up progress. By a lot. Now we have 8K gaming at extreme end. Or commonplace 1080p 60fps. But no. Intel is slowing down progress. Look at performance increases, 5-10% per year is too little. Last time we had 40% in times of competition every year.
@tlove217 жыл бұрын
Danny Lampron i agree about intel not so much about nvidia. Intel has not really changed the technology much. They have basically added a bump here and there and fooled people. I have done some benchmarks with processors and many times you do not need those high end processors. Nvidia however has really gone into some serious upgrades. The difference is always evident and the power is definitely felt.

I had a Phenom II 965 o.c. at 4.0GHz and it was a great CPU, at that time I had to sell it, but today I tested Phenom II X2 B59 at 4.0Ghz and I compare it to i5 4440, i3 4360 and i7 2600K, and Athlon X4 740 o.c. at 3.7GHz, and it runs perfectly (excepting hard games) everything in Windows 10. Phenom II was overclock-able, responsive, fast, and cheap. Also Athlon X4 740 (today 840 option) is great, I am impressed that my video graphics card Zotac 750 Ti 2GB DDR5 obtained greater GPU score with Athlon in 3D Mark 2013, greater than all CPU I mentioned before, and overall with a few percents less because smaller results in physics tests, but GTA V was ok on it at 30fps, medium settings, stable.

in-game intel wins. Even though i love AMD they can't outperform intel's best in games it's just a fact unless you're cooling with liquid nitrogen and oc'ing to 8 ghz it isn't gonna happen. Just look up the i7 4790k... if you watercool it goes well over 5ghz which only a select few processors can pull off stable, you can even pull it off if you have a killer hsf. If anything I'm biased towards AMD, and trust me, no AMD could ever compete with that unless AMD comes out of nowhere with a new release with cores twice as strong which won't happen, just face facts.

what about the 8 core black edition at 3.9 GHz from amd and it's only like 150 bucks but Intel is really good but the thing i don't like about them is that they over price their product i mean really 300 dollars for a processor when you can get a better one for like he said 1/3 of of the price and its eight cores so Intel is like beats they got good stuff but too over priced
@sirknightleopold10 жыл бұрын
I disagree that Intel's are overpriced. Intel perform better and draw less power. It cost more because it performs better, AMD costs less because they give less performance. the FX-8320 is comparable to an 3rd gen i5 in multi-threaded performance, but the single-core is horrible, so it's cheaper. They are correctly priced.
@JAYMONEY1424510 жыл бұрын
but you can get a better processor for less than a intel correct?
@xGoodOldSmurfehx10 жыл бұрын
JAYMONEY14245 in price/performance AMD is well reputed to be unmatched, Intel's CPUs tend to do better with heavy calculations which actually means they are most likely going to suck against AMD because of AMD's price/performance ratio therefore despite being less "powerful", AMD's components are just better suited for heavy gaming while Intel's components are far superior when it comes to production i love how even Linus said the opposite, its so obvious XD
@niofalpha10 жыл бұрын
There is always a drawback to low prices... AMD draws more power, and runs hotter. When they run hotter they don't run as fast. The problem with AMD is they don't show the actual performance they show the theoretical under ideal services...

niofalpha and AMD and Intel CPUs work completely different nice going, i hate stupid fights like this AMD's CPUs are better when more cores are being used while Intel is the complete opposite however Intel was created for both the industry and stupid consumers, in no way is Intel meant for gaming in the first place

Well, I have a Toshiba Satellite with a 4th gen Haswell i5 4200U @ 1.6Ghz @ 2.6Ghz Turbo paired with a 2GB GeForce 740M. The main reason it was because of the fact that it has a awful lot better performance per watt than the AMDs 35W A10s which I have seen and despite having quad cores has less performance. The 15 watt 4200U offered ~6 hours battery life with basic use which was important for moving around campus, going to group meetings and some lectures. I do a lot of video conversion so hyper-threading + HD 4400 was a big plus as Intel graphics tend to perform better with decoding than all other GPUs in the market. The 740M/4200U combo was more than enough to run Crysis 3 and NFSMW at medim high settings. This was also a huge plus compared to regular AMD or Intel 35Watt CPUs because it didn't throttle due to the small amount of heat it produces.

AMD Phenom II or quad core FX series E.G FX-4300. I use my machine for gaming on a single screen in in HD and the fact of the matter is that once you have a quad core CPU running at 3-4GHz most of the remainder of the work is down to your GPU's power. For me, there was no need to drop £700-£800 on a top of the line i7 Processor when a £100 FX CPU is all I need in the processing Department, and that was an unlocked version. You would barely get an i3 for that price bracket when spending with Intel and there would be little room to wiggle without the over clocking potential even if you did.

I use an AMD A4 5300 Dual core APU because it was only £35 and it is perfect for me and I think it might last me a good 2-3 years

I am planning on building a gaming rig that I can develop games on using unity etc. as well as playing games such as battlefield and fallout. What would you guys suggest parts-wise so that I can keep the build at around $1000

AMD FX 8350, was a cheap 8-core nearly 1000£/$ cheaper than the i7 equivalents I was looking at and offered extreme power for my autodesk 3D application needs. Also pretty sweet for when I wanna do some gaming
