We are going to putting 15 colored pencil brands to the test today to see which ones are the best quality and value for money, but also which pencils you should avoid buying! We will be taking a look at color pigmentation, vibrancy, blending, pencil core, details, color range, and more!

For colouring, I really like the Black Widow pencils. For artwork, I like Prismacolor Premier and Lyra Rembrandt. Both types are available open stock.

I didn’t realize you have tried derwent drawing pencils! I absolutely love them, they’re a hidden gem! I wish they came in a larger set though - I think I have the largest set and it’s still only 24 colors😦 some of these pencils like BIC and Artbox have better packaging than performance😂 crayola seems to beat all the other cheap pencils. I know prismacolors are a big favorite, but I’m with you, my go-to pencils are definitely the polychromos!! I’m working on a video about colored pencils right now funny enough, but this video really opened my eyes to so many brands!

Great video, Amy! That's a lot of brands to go over and test, Polychromos will always be my favorite. Watching you draw with those Art Box colored pencils was like nails on a chalkboard with the blotchy-ness haha.

Hi, nice video! The worst color pencils of all for me are the bic, and they made a collaboration with conte, they are the worst of the worst, no pigmentation at all, hard, repeated colors, no names o number in black barrel without any mark of what color are you choosing. My favorites are holbein but they are so expensive and hard to get it, and the same same for caran dache. My second favorite are polychromos and I found a cheap brand "markart" are so comparable in performance to polychromos.

Hi Leo! Thank you for your comment. There were definitely a few sets in here that I wouldn’t recommend! 😅 but other brands which are amazing! Especially for cheap pencils 😊

@@amywellerart absolutely, like derwent lightfast and drawing. I didn't had any faith of them, because the softcolor, studio, inktense and watercolor almost make me runway from the brand.

I'm surprised you rated crayola better than classic ... i find f-c classic a bit better for pigmentation, blending and keeping a sharp point. i only get blotchy results on plain paper, not on good quality paper. i also came across some texta pencils. they were leftovers from a set one of my kids had in primary school. i haven't used them extensively as i don't have a wide range of colours but they have better pigmentation than other cheap brands. unfortunately i don't see them anymore in the shops. i'll keep my eyes open for classmaster. i've never heard of them before.

i've done a web search and i think the classmasters are only available in the uk. i only found one set on ebay that will ship to australia.

It’s just my opinion 😊 I tested all the pencils on the following paper: Bristol smooth 300 series, Strathmore toned tan, Faber Castell mixed media paper, and the Fabriano hot pressed watercolour paper. Everyone has a different opinion & different favourites which is absolutely fine! I bought the class master from Amazon - I’ll try and find links for all the pencils but like you said some pencils may only be available in certain countries 👍🏻

i prefer crayola classic tbh the signature is too expensive and does not layer that well

Actually not all Giotto Stilnovo are watercolour pencils. Only Giotto Stilnovo Aquarell are.
