Quick Tutorial: Convert Solid Elements to SPH

In this video, I showed how to convert a solid part to SPH. The method can be used for if you have a shell part.
Many have asked me this as they have difficulties creating SPH part. The tricky part is to apply the density before creating the part. Here, I showed how to measure the mass of the SPH part to check whether the density has been appropriately assigned or not.
Failure to assign the density property might lead to problems later in the simulation, such as extremely long run time and contact failure.
If you have done created the SPH part already but forgot to assign the density properly, fret not! You can just go to SPH Generation tool, Click on Modify Option, click on the SPH part, and then enter the correct mass of the part.
This is useful in cases like bird-strike problem where you want to model the bird with SPH and want to use an actual shape of a bird, not just approximating it as a solid sphere. Check out this paper:

Hello Ameen, I'm a beginner to LS dyna and is presently working on 2D-asymmetric problem of ball drop test. The ball and part are formed using shell elements with thickness. The problem I'm facing is related to interaction of ball with part. The ball passes through the part without showing any interaction. Kindly suggest some possible solutions for this. Thanks a lot in advance.

@@AmeenTopa Thanks alot Ameen for your suggestion.. 2D AUTOMATIC SURFACE TO SURFACE CONTACT and ELFORM15 worked perfectly in my problem. .Now I want to convert 2D asymmetric model to full 3D model..using ALE mapping. you have any video on that?

Hello Ameen, I watched your and other DCB cohesive model videos. But my upper and lower beam are shell so when i use tiebreak contact, it works but i have to do using cohesive element. And it gives error. Which contact can i use for shell beam and cohesive? Please could you give me advice?

Hello there, First, if cohesive elements are not used and you are using tiebreak contact instead, you can use OPTION 9 which is equivalent to Cohesive Mixed Mode material model (bi-leaner model). For shell elements and solid (cohesive) contacts, you can used tied contact with offset option. If your solid cohesive elements have a thickness, then you can try to duplicate the nodes between the shell and the solid cohesive elements. The above is based on my understanding to your description, I hope I got you right.
