I think something that often gets overlooked by shipbuilders is the aircraft, I've seen many models in 1/350 where the ships look fantastic but the planes look like an afterthought, even on carriers. Really love to see how well all the details have been done including those planes!

It would’ve been interesting to see how the royal navy would’ve pursued and sunk the graf zeppelin. I would imagine a similar fate to Tirpitz.
@jonathansteadman79359 ай бұрын
yeah, send in the stringbags (swordfish). Previous to the Tirpitz the British successfully sunk a lot of ships at Taranto harbour, which gave the Japanese the confidence to attack Pearl Harbour. In fact, a royal naval officer, against orders, had shown the Japanese how to fly on and off a deck. Think his name was Sefton, or something similar.

Had the carrier been completed i don't think Her aircraft would have done very well in service. The BF 109 would have been too fragile as a carrier aircraft. The Spitfire wasn't very succesful at sea and the 109 i suspect even worse. Ju 87 would have been better suited. Strong landing gear and slow landing speed. Not sure what was proposed as a torpedo bomber. Luftwaffe only adopted He111 from land bases.
@momiji49328 ай бұрын
In such case,I think the FW190 is sperior to the BF109.If the carrier had been used,the FW190 would have been used.
@rkitchen19678 ай бұрын
The ship was essentially completed, but a purposeful decision was made not to put it in service. A single carrier would have been inadequate to face the Allies. The Japanese were, however, interested in buying it to replace their carrier losses.

Yeah was gonna say he did what the Kriegsmarine never managed to and actually built it lol
@coinneachreid89719 ай бұрын
Probably just as well they never built it (pre-war they had planned on building 4). lovely boat, superior German design but the planes would have been a shit show, ME109 good fighter but would have had to be radically adapted for carrier use, and the dive bombers JU87 Stukas would have been a downright liability in naval air combat
@antonrudenham32599 ай бұрын
@@coinneachreid8971 Yeah, where would they have used it that couldn't already be covered by their land based planes? I think they'd have tried breaking it out into the Atlantic on anti commerce raids in conjunction with heavy units and escorts but Hitler would have been kept awake at night fearing for their safety, and probably rightly so. The original intention was to use modified 109's but the Fw 190 which came along in 1941 would almost certainly have been actually modified and used instead, being a much more stable and strong airframe, they even had a torpedo toting 190 which may have replaced the Ju 87's.

Spectacular build of a third-rate subject. Please build some US carriers properly. Any era, but I humbly suggest that Japanese modellers have not built A+ class modern US carriers in a while and you are overdue. Bonus: it will sell on yahuoku for far more than this graf zeppelin will. What would be spectacular is a us korean war aircraft carrier, but there is no suitable kit that doesn't require very extensive conversion yet. Or, barring that, somebody has to finally make an angled-deck midway which would sell incredibly well in both japan and usa. idiotic decision by trumpeter to release a straight-deck midway.
