That's the thing with his whole character-he sees this guy who lacks confidence and initiative, and he wants to push him to become the best possible version of himself through controlled adversity. That's why he's always the first to go to bat for Peter when other people are causing him problems. He essentially views him like a younger, less well-guided version of his own son.

Out of all Variants of Peter being extremely down on his luck with his regular life, Tobey's & PS4 Spider-Man's Peter are really at the bottom of the barrrel in terms of getting paid, keeping their relationships steady & being a good student.

Looking back on the Raimi trilogy, there's a lot of character assassination going on towards MJ. Comic book MJ was supportive of Peter, fiercely independent and if there was something frustrating or worrying her, she told him straight up. Raimi's version of MJ comes across as manipulative, indecisive and petty throughout the trilogy. Iirc, Sam Raimi is a fan of only the 60's high school era of Spider-Man, so he's no fan of MJ (who I think was introduced in the early/mid 70's college years), he's a steadfast Gwen Stacy fan.

These reactions are 100% wrong. Peter told her "No" at the end of the first movie.... yet he still chased after her. Peter TEASED MJ and when SHE confronted him on it, what did he tell her? "I don't love you." The characterization is fine, People aren't fans of paying attention. In the comics, Aunt May was trying to hook up Peter and MJ all through his high school years but she only meet Peter after Gwen Stacy was introduced when he was in college. The real problem with Raimi's childhood friend set up is there is no "Face it, Tiger, you hit the jackpot" introduction. For all 8 Spider-man films, Dunst's MJ remains my favorite of Peter's girlfriends; She has complex emotions because it's a complex situation. That look on her face at the end of S2 when she realized her new role was to be "Be here when I need you, honey" trophy is fantastic. What, was she just supposed to be an extension of what he needs? Yeah, the 'What a B, lmao" guy seems to think so.

She does nothing useful, is always a damsel in distress, she fucking leaves her fiancé at the altar (a truly bitch move), and is a dumbass who makes horrible decisions like the time she broke up with Peter instead of telling Peter that Harry got his memories back and is threatening her.
