Father of 4 kids here. I’m a stay home father in The Netherlands, I have homeschooled for 1.5 year during the p(l)andemic. We’re about the same age as I turn 40 soon. Sir, good man, brother, your concern is completely righteous and on point. Evil has stepped out of the dark and is now locked up with us. If we don’t stare them back into the darkness they came from, our kids are theirs. To me this is unacceptable. Don’t doubt your primal feelings moving in the framework of religion and morality. What you feel and see is real. This situation doesn’t pass any test and it should be spoken about before football, fishing, riding, pipes, anything really. Because Is it not that nothing is truly enjoyable in a mad world about to knock on your door? There is a nervousness that should be shaken off by taking action. Thank you and hold that line and press forward until evil falls back in the hole it came from. Bless you and your family. Keep going, this is your stand and it is the undertaking of your lifetime.

You were introduced to me, by Matt Fradd, on Pints with Aquinas. I saw a genuine intelligent man with deep conviction about what he spoke. I watched this video (my first) and wondered if you still believe the church, and it’s members, could save our country ? Thank you for sharing your honest and sincere testimony!

The Church is what's tearing this country apart. The Church is tearing itself apart. Exhibit A: the split of the United Methodist Organization over whether or not homosexuals can be leaders within the church. Instead of welcoming more people into the fold and accepting that homosexuals were made by God just as heterosexuals are, they thought it best to split everything in two like a nasty divorce in order to follow a narrow interpretation of the Bible. Exhibit B: Those within the Church who vocally and financially support a fascist and his agenda for this country. In 325, the Council of Nicea had to convene to solve the issue of the "official" position on the relationship of God the Father, to Jesus the Son. It took men to make that decision about something written in a holy book, so they would be unified in how it's taught or presented.

To your point about cordial conversations, I just spoke with a group of people last week. My point to them was that they needed to make it a career decision to build bridges, and that it is possible to not agree, and still get along. I'm in agreement with you that we live in an increasingly dark world. I have to remind myself that the darker the world, the more the light can radiate through it. Our pastor just did a talk on getting on offense as a Christian. How being on defense is merely reactive, and being on offense is primarily where the scoring comes from. It spoke volumes to me. Now, the challenge is to teach the church to be on offense, without alienating EVERYONE they come across. Great video my friend.

Bravo. I have been watching your channel for quite some time, started smoking a pipe about 10 yrs ago on and off, mostly on. I’m a 20 yrs USAF combat vet, ex deputy sheriff, ex police officer @ 50 I punched out of the rat race, I got so fed up with American politics, crime and general lack of respect for fellow citizens that I pretty much sold everything and moved out of the US to Eastern Europe (Lithuania) where my pension(s) dollars go farther, my quality of life is better and where I’m at crime is relatively low. What I see here is the US that I grew up in, women actually want to be women, men are men, I watch young moms leave there babies in their strollers in from of stores while they shop and the children are safe, I see young grade school age children walking to school, teachers taking the kids out to explore the park. I actually saw a young boy maybe 8-10 yrs old, walk to the local cafe, pay for food that was ordered, gave the girl behind the counter the money she gave him change, a receipt and the food. He walked home, I was telling my friend that would not happen in the US, she told me he does it all the time. The children here are taught early to be independent, not so with kids in the US. Sorry this is so long winded, but you hit the nail on the head, you gained another subscriber just in case you lost one. Keep up the good work, don’t know what you do for a livin, and your right it’s no one’s business, but I’m gonna guess your are a university professor, if your not, you should be. Even when I don't agree, I can see where you come from, understand that I come from something else, and see what you said as valid. I'm glad you don't sugar-coat how you feel for fear of losing viewers. Our freedom of speech will always be the one I hold highest and I commend you for not censoring yourself or letting others censor you. Seeing that freedom exercised here reminds me we still have some things left in this country today, regardless of where we're going tomorrow.

I really appreciated this video. I was introduced to you by wanting to learn more about pipe smoking. I still have not started, but, being an avid hiker / RV traveler, it sure would compliment the scenery. I'm a retired deputy sheriff, homeschooled both our kids, did not allow them to have a smartphone until they graduated high school and bought it for themselves. They were not on any social media, because we did not have the internet until they needed it for college. No cars / license were given until they graduated high school. One is a police officer and the other is a surgical tech...both successful. Thank you for your standing on homosexuality and the history of the south..you are spot on. Since we homeschooled, my wife became almost an expert on the history of the south when they were learning about it. She even created a board game they played and both my kids and my wife were dosets at a local historic house for several years to supplement their learning. She was over the public schools tours and they saw that homeschooled families are not creatures under a rock. I was born in 1970 and can see that we are loosing many things I once took for granted and the generation of my mother-n-law (she's about 86) are dying off. The new generation coming up will have no clue where they came from, who they are and believe they came about by blind chance (evolution). We had a huge civil war statue that was in the middle of town taken and placed in a cemetery...angel holding up a soldier. The land it was on was not even owned by the city, from what I understand. I 100% agree with you, it was not about slavery. Anyhow, I enjoy your vids / talks. I feel there will be a pouch amongst my hiking gear soon😉 Have a great day and keep up the great work with the family, it is very encouraging😊

I remember in high school I almost got suspended for challenging my history teacher because up here they demonize the south and I refused to bend the knee. I did a whole report on my own time with facts and proof that what we are taught is not the truth and my school did not like that at all I've spent years defending the confederacy and always will. I try my best to teach my kids accurate history and keep them away from video games and the internet I take them out doors and camping and teach them what I can. I am a 20 year old collage history student and as ashamed as I am to admit it I have allowed my dread of the state of our schools, institutions, and society to take a toll on my education. I am at a crossroads so to speak in my personal development, and what I learned is that I do fear for myself and others in my situation. These professors focus on demonizing the history that I love and it has reached a point where trying to maintain a steady education is an uphill battle against the culture of the world now days. What value is in my education if I am graded on how much resentment on the subject matter I put into every paper I write? I am still learning to navigate the line where my convictions interfere with the instances of valuable knowledge but I also fear how I may change if I am not careful. I don’t want to become a bitter person, nor do I want to become ignorant if I follow the books to their exact decree. The balancing act extends beyond simply “finding yourself” as collage has become known for, but also now it is an effort to preserve yourself. Thank you for this video and I wish good luck to anybody else struggling with this dilemma.

I very much enjoyed this video, and completely agree with every second of it. I believe that you got the nail on the head: the responsibility of ensuring that our world doesn’t implode on itself with its “Sodom and Gomorrah” approach to decision making and lifestyle choices is on US as parents and one day grandparents. We have to raise our children properly, without them having outside influences to cloud their judgement. We have to raise them the way our past generations of adults raised us, so that when we send them out into the world as adults, they’re equipped with the unalterable capability to make sound and good decisions… Not based on what someone else thinks, or feels, or pressures them to do, but based on what they know is RIGHT! Hats off to you for using this platform for GOD and for GOOD, you have my support.

my argument to people who say the Civil War was about slavery has always been simple. the emancipation proclamation did not come until halfway through the Civil War. you can not start a war over something you did not name as an objective until your half way through said war. slavery was a terrible and ugly part of this countries history, but it was not the reason this country was torn apart by a civil war

It is refreshing to hear this fellow articulate so well what I have thought and argued almost from my first reading and learning of 19th Century American History. This is significant for me, and awkward, as a son of the "Land of Lincoln" who always objected to Lincoln being deemed some kind of saint and placed on a pedestal when he commanded what amounted to a meat grinder that annihilated hundreds of thousands of his own countrymen. I was faced with aggressive resistance from teachers and cohorts on this topic from the time I was a young boy in private/catholic elementary school. On numerous occasions my nonconforming notions on this issue were the subject of parent night meetings from which my parents would return home and sit me down for what they referred to as "sanity checks". What was most troubling to my teachers was my contention that the Civil War was clearly not really about slavery at all and that slavery, it seemed to me, was used as an excuse by northern leadership to impose their dominance over the South and, perhaps, grab some of the vast resources of the South in the bargain. For the South, at its core, the struggle was all about civil and constitutional rights, with slavery being their Achillies heel but not their central issue. Remember now, this is coming from a kid in Chicago in the late sixties and early seventies - thus not a popular theory, much less tolerated, at all. Thankfully, despite their disagreement with me, both my parents listened to my rationale, expressed their concerns, made suggestions for further research, but assured me that I was indeed sane and should not surrender my beliefs unless/until they and/or my teachers provided me with convincing evidence and arguments that made sense to me. They did sincerely request that I cease openly referring to Abraham Lincoln as the worst POTUS, and I complied, but they allowed that it was okay for me to articulate and argue that Franklin Pierce was by no means the worst POTUS, as most historians and history teachers preached. Ever since I reached the age of reason, I've believed that Franklin Pierce was perhaps the most underrated and underappreciated president. Had Pierce prevailed and won reelection (his party denied him even a nomination for a second term), and had he done a better job of communicating his agenda, I've always believed that we'd have had a very good chance at averting the Civil War, or at least mitigated it down to a short term "insurrection" type event. It's a much larger topic, but suffice it to say, from my perspective, Lincoln was a very destructive president who had little respect for the Constitution and, as we now understand, for the sanctity of our currency. If there was a turning point in our history when we started treating our currency like a slut, it would have been under Lincoln's presidency.

Hi there. Do you (or anyone reading this) have any books or other resources that you'd recommend about the civil war? I have honestly never heard in my life that it was about anything but slavery, but I know I've been lied to about many other things at school, and am curious to learn about another perspective.

I agree with probably 95% of what you say here. And I think that is one of the best parts of this country that has long since been forgotten by most. The ability, and right, to disagree with one another. Have thoughtful and respectful debate and dialogue with those who's views and beliefs may differ from your own. I personally believe that was where we, as a country, began to falter. When we stopped respecting and allowing for others to have values, beliefs, and opinions that may not line up with our own. I thank and respect you for speaking your mind. I do agree this country has been in decline for far longer than most would admit. I look at a few of the younger generation i know of....Some fill me with dread and worry while others give me hope that perhaps one day they will be the patriots leading the charge to return this country to a place deserving of being called the greatest country in the world. God bless you and your family Mr. Harrelson.

I want to pay that forward if I am blessed with a wife and children. I knew the good thing I had going for me and I was always proud to be a homeschool kid. It's a very special experience and I am glad you're opting to school your own kids.

I have great respect for you as a gentleman and a scholar, Dr. Harrelson, but I wonder if you could please address the issue of Alexander Stephens' "Cornerstone Speech" of March 1861 and how that jibes with your assertion that slavery was not a key issue of the War Between the States? The world could not give a damn!!! They just argue that SA got it`s freedom in 1994 so now everything is hunky dory. Well it`s not!! More people are killed here every day than people in Ukrain!!! I love and appreciate your views. Please forge ahead!!!!

I agree with you on every point but near the end - I agree that the American church at large has failed entirely in it's duties, but I think that the living and invisible church remains the only hope for any who love God's Word in our fallen world. Like you said, families raised on the Word are the hope of our future, but they are exactly the living church which I refer to.
@Coyotehello

@@krismckenzie7759 most religions have the same goal and their churches should reflect that common goal. The main issue being churches are given power and power corrupts. Therefore if your "invisible church" is in search of disseminating the basic fundamentals of religion(s) then, the USA wars on other countries to "liberate" them from their belief is reprehensible. No? Unless, wait... Natural resources, geo-political power, Imperialism... ;-)

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t t disagree with you more. I bust my rear end for 21 years as an educator. There is none of that happening in any school I have ever worked in. Way to encapsulate all teachers. This is dangerous and wreckless. This is not true. I will have a conversation with you if you need information but making these kinds of assumptions is not it. To everyone out there. Just think, for every one ridiculous story you hear, what about the thousands and thousands of non-stories there are. Cmon. This is unfair and uneducated reflection. As a Christian I am offended that I’m put into that box. So many hard working teachers. It’s sad we always get dumped on. We have been trying for years to get kids to turn in homework and be polite. We protect your kids. So many kids beaten and starved. We call and keep them safe. Go on thinking we are the enemy.

The United Kingdom is the same. We have to apologise for our history. We teach very silly things to our kids in school and anything that was once taught as right is now considered wrong even evil. The UK is no different to the USA in its mayhem we are potentially corrupting our own and the wider society with. A once Christian nation which is now against all that was natural and right. I enjoyed your video. Hello from northern rural England. Thanks indeed sir. Oh yes and statutes in city's and towns are taken down due to the person in the statue being wrong on things by todays standards. We can learn both good and bad from history if its taught correctly. Unfortunately in the uk its taught from a modernist aproach were today's standards are applied to back then which leads to a distortion of the truth

I greet you all from Germany. Here we have the same problems with the woke agenda as you do in the US. It seems as if wokeness started in the US and is now rapidly expanding towards Europe through social media and the companies you mentioned. Even though I am just 18 years old and far away from fatherhood I am heavily concerned about how things are going in Germany. I often ask myself if Germany, my fatherland, a country to whom I feel strongly connected through its rich history and traditions, is still the best place to live and start a family. The people are becoming increasingly atheist while the influence of massive immigration from Muslim countries is becoming more evident every day. Even though I am attending a catholic private school catholicism doesn't play a role in everyday school life. Instead, we talk about woke topics in the lessons because this is part of the curriculum or we "celebrate" diversity. I pray for better times and that the Lord may bless Germany and the Western world so that our societies return to Christ and his truth. May he also bless all of you, who listened to my concerns. Laudetur Jesus Christus!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. There is much with which I agree. Our children are also homeschooled and we homestead with them and for them. The rural life is good. Though, as you indicated, far more important than any of those things is that we raise them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord Jesus. That brings me to the only small point of disagreement, but perhaps only clarification between us: the church. I understand and agree with your sentiment about the American Church at large as big business and the many faults that come from that. However, Christ has told us that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church, and there are churches (my own and others) who are bastions of gospel hope in a declining country. We are citizens first of Christ's kingdom and look to him for hope, which involves raising godly families in the church community, according to the clear teaching of the Bible. We also know that whatever happens to these United States, the King will return to his worldwide kingdom to set all things right for his people. From what I can tell from your videos, you and I may someday enjoy a good pipe together in the presence of the king. Thank you, brother, for your wise words and God bless you and your family.
