Harris' campaign positions had all the holes in the world, to be clear. The campaign itself was solid for 100 days though. Too many celebrities for my taste. I said when Biden dropped out that this would happen. She wouldn't have won with a perfect campaign though. Two things can be true.

"other groups closer to our situation than not decided to trade our solidarity for perceived whiteness" You need to realize that most people, regardless of race, colour, religion, etc. don't buy identity politics as a legitimate expression of their fact of life. After Obama's two terms in office, black people who lived in the ghetto at the end of Bush's presidency were still in ghetto. Voting with other people of the same race, for a candidate of the same race, is not going to get you anywhere. The fact Blacks, Latinos, Arabs, Jews, etc. voted for Trump (and some voted for Harris, of course) just goes to show you that Americans are rejecting the notion of identity politics. Taking this right away from women seems like the first pitch to see how we all will react; to see how easy or difficult it will be to take away future rights from various other Americans. Women. We were once chattel. Livestock are chattel. Chattel means that you have no agency over your own reality. Now, it’s our body with men controlling them - AGAIN. How are women voting for someone who clearly hates women? Black Americans. That our people were ever slaves in the US means that we can be slaves in the US - AGAIN. You don’t let rights get taken from anyone if you understand that our rights can be taken from us rendering us less than human - AGAIN. If our government wanted to reinstate slavery, nobody would do a thing about it to actually prevent it. Moreover, now we see our fellow Americans would likely be in favor of it. Including other Black people. Do we have such a need to be entertained that we couldn’t think our way through this logically? To all Americans, his administration did so much damage to the moral of the country the first time he was elected that the damage he will do this time will be unimaginable and a permanent stench will infect us all for the rest of our lives. It will take generations to just get back to where we are now. 😢

Yes, America had. Thankfully, it always does. Elections merely define change that has already taken place, and those changes are always slight. Slight, not apocalyptic. And always toward the center. When Biden was elected, I heard the same thing from the conservatives. Lamenting the apocalypse, which of course never came because change away from Biden's policies had already started. Back toward the center. For those who so desire it, the apocalypse will eventually come. Humankind will face extinction, and our nation like all those before will fall. But to think we have anything to do with either one or control either one is arrogance. This is a slight correction back toward the center. The candidate I voted for, Trump, will get about one percent of what he wants. That will be about 100% of the change I want.

I completely agree that now all we can do is rely on states for abortion issues. However, let’s not forget the power the federal government has over this issue. They could pass a national abortion ban which will override state granted rights. Additionally, the federal government could limit abortion access, such as by banning mifopristone (abortion pill). And Trump’s actions have indicated that there will be moves to at least attempt doing so. This is why people who live in states that have voted in abortion initiatives should still be concerned about what happens at the federal level. Those state initiatives are not safe. This is all to say, those who voted for Trump yet are in favor of those abortion initiatives have voted against their own self interest.

I remember hearing about Trump in the 70's and 80's- first by way of his father, then his 'personality'. I remember being utterly baffled anyone would take that socipath seriously. I've met more charismatic and well spoken toddlers. . . .but here we are. I long ago lost any faith in the systems by which this country operates when I started learning about history and how things worked. I don't stand out, I don't matter, and I don't pretend I ever will, but I try to do what I can to support those close to me who do care and who do have faith. Nihilism is unproductive on its own, it needs a counterbalance in hope and people who can carry that hope forward. As you said, it is corporate money and power that moves things- Trump isn't the problem, he's a simple lackey of genuine evil and the greed of men patient and connected enough to turn the economic power of America's branding to their own ends. You should be terrified for your children and grandchildren. But certainly not because of any presidential candidate or election. We live on a tiny speck of dust in a universe massive beyond all comprehension. Our very existence is improbable, and undefinable. You are old enough to know this is the truth. I stepped out on my porch a month or so ago and saw the North Atlantic in my front yard. I know what the North Atlantic looks like because I have seen it from the decks of Navy ships. I found this to be unusual considering I am in western North Carolina, hundreds of miles from any ocean. My son spent three hours on his roof, praying that his perch was not destroyed by the other destroyed houses floating by in the raging torrent. He survived. Hundreds of others did not. Absurd as it seems, he and my grandson lost everything they owned, and yet they are still lucky. I was understandably terrified for him. All moons rising have the potential to be bad. That is why werewolves lurk in our subconscious. But that is the only place they truly abide. They are never the real threat. This election? This is nothing. And I say that even though the guy I voted for won.

Trump's trade policy which apparently well supported could be a disaster for Australia and for US consumers particularly the lower socio economic demographic. If Trump actually follows through as a free trading nation it could actually put us in recession. Have to remember it's not only our direct exports to the US but exports to our trading partners particularly in East and South East Asia. Democrats will probably go along with Trump's plan as the left traditionally supports this form of socialism. This will be a massive socialist experiment to benefit big businesses in the US.

The plain facts are that inflationary periods always lead to party flips for president. Korean War inflation flipped the White House to Eisenhower (R). 70's Stagflation flipped it from Ford (R) to Carter (D). And then when it was still not fixed, it flipped to Reagan (R). Kamala would've had to put up a heroic campaign to win against the fact we had an inflationary period under the Biden administration. Americans really hate it when prices go up fast and blame whoever's in the White House for it, even if a dry examination wouldn't actually point the finger at them (blame rock-bottom Fed rates which occurred under the Trump and Biden administrations and aren't directly controlled by the president). Is it horrible that a lot of Americans choose general anger about inflation to override their prefrontal cortexes? Yes. But if there's any glim of solace to take, Trump's policies (if implemented) would return us to a high inflationary period. So... expect a very strong blue sweep in 2028.

I commend the fight, but at this point I'm pulling up stakes and leaving as soon as I can. This country fundamentally refuses to progress in any shape or form. Do you have any ideas? I'm heavily considering moving too. Either that or just wait until I'm deported for free. 😅
@ConWolfDoubleO723 күн бұрын
@MezzoForte4 It depends on a lot of factors, mainly you. Canada is an easy option as they're more relaxed than more most countries. Anything in the EU is extremely difficult because you must prove no one in Europe could do your job. Biggest thing to look for are sheets like "critical skills list". Most countries have a list of skilled workers they're looking for. If you don't meet that, next to impossible to get in. For me I'm starting with Canada, then Spain, Ireland, UK, and then working down from there. Most countries require you pass the language exam to a fluent level if you want full citizenship, so definitely keep that in mind (you won't learn Finnish in a year). Immigration takes at least 2-5 years in most cases, and usually at least 25-30k in the bank. That all changes depending on the place, but moving anywhere is going to take a lot of effort and time, so if you're serious about it, start now!

During Trump's first term, the GOP was more moderate (e.g. Paul Ryan, McCain, etc) so a lot of his cabinet staffs were appointed to keep him in check. But now that most of the moderates are gone and the GOP has become the party of Trump, expect only Trump loyalists in his administration and there will be no one to tell him "no". And any Republicans in Congress who dare to vote "no" on his agenda will get the Liz Cheney treatment. All in all, Trump will be allowed to act with impunity.

funnily enough he actually had 3 million LESS votes than he did in 2020. it's just that somehow Harris got 13 million votes less than Biden did in 2020, which means overall voter turn out was wayyy lower this time around. even independents, in total, got less than 2 million votes. overall nearly 20 million less people voted this election compared to 2020 edit: trump actually only lost 1.4 million votes between then and now, which basically means the people who voted for trump in 2020 are the same people who voted for him again. also total independent votes only slightly surpassed 2 million, whereas they were almost at 3 million last election.

And they won't get better unless people lose hope and stop trying.
