As a Muslim married to a Canadian born Chinese who is also Muslim, we have travelled in and out of China for over a decade and NEVER had any issues there. I sometimes wore my hijab and sometimes didn't and never faced any issues neither did my husband or children. In contract ove had issues in the US and Canada with racism. The US and its allies like Canada fully support Israels ethnic cleansing of Palestinians - which is evidence clearly in decades of testimony and video footage and UN reports, Canada have honorary citizenship to the President of Myanmar during the Rohingya genocide, the US recently killed 10 Afghanis on purpose and found themselves not guilty, on top of these insults, the US has murdered 4million Muslims since 1990....and they want talk to me about Uighur Muslims? They wanna use us now when it's convenient for their narrative? It is glaring that US's diplomatic and economic attacks on China are restricted to the English speaking 5-eye nations. The rest of the world knows these attacks are no more than actions of US's pursuit of the "America first" policy. When Trump's mob later on 6 Jan stormed the Congress building, ransacked her office and stole her laptop she initiated impeachment against Trump. Thus the world knows the double standard of the US politicians displayed in the world's TV. Everyone can see what happen in Hong Kong Xinjiang. The truth will eventually come out and it is US congress people who will find themselves in ridicule in the end. China doesn't bother much to defend the US accusations and that is exactly what it should do because China is not answerable to every US interference of China's internal affairs. Interfering with other country's internal affairs and has it recorded in Congress is a nice evidence showing how incompetent is the president and how hegemony-crazy the Congress is. In Chinese, there is a phrase, "Three people said there was a tiger walking on the street, it must be true." What it means that, as long as there are lots of people saying something is happening, that thing, no matter how impossible and how unreal, it is considered happened. Facts do not matter, it is all about narratives. The ones talking about it of course do not care. But interesting enough, the ones listening will eventually believe it, even though at the beginning their common sense would reject the notion. It seems human psychologically would eventually get confused by what is true and what is false as long as you keep on receiving wrong information. But I think the full truth is far more complicated. Xinjiang region had terrorist activities and attacks in the past. Bad actors from outside china have strong interests in separational movements. China reacted strong. On the one side with "re-education" measures on the other side with sustainable investments in infrastructure. Streets, bridges, housing, economy. The living standard in the region is way up. Look what the US did in Afghanistan (then in Irak). They did start with a strong hand as well but completely failed to build something sustainable for the people. The mess in the whole region is bigger than ever. Billions wasted. Hundred-thousands killed (mostly civilians). Yes, China DID violate human rights and deserves to be accused of this. But so far I have not seen any better example of solving the threat of religious motivated extremism in this region with a sustainable outlook to the future.

Great points! Bush was getting on China about the crackdown in Xinjiang when he took office. Then 911 hit and the first county he visited was China to form alliance against terrorism cause he knew that the Uighers were being recruited by terrorist groups and were being sent back to Xinjiang to disrupt China from within. The way China attacks terrorism is to provide economic opportunities by training the Uighers to speak Mandarin, train them in vocational schools (not detention camps because they can go home after school) spend hundreds of billions investing in infrastructure as other projects in Xinjiang. I’ve been in China long enough to remember terrorist attacks in Xinjiang and was told by Uighers friends not to visit there without escort. I also remember when Beijing allowed Uighers to carry massive knives on them, when ordinary Chinese couldn’t even carry a pocket knife in Beijing, because to carry those knives was a Uighers custom. I have tons of Muslim friends in China who DO drink alcohol. It’s NOT a Muslim tradition to abstain from alcohol but it’sthe extremists that are trying to wipe out real Muslim culture in China.

Our national News agency CBC (Canadian) recently produced so called investigative report on "Force labour" Xingjiang tomatoes production in one of CBC 'Market Place' episodes. The reporter Asha Tomlinson has never been in Xingjiang, she only based on the interview with so called Xingjiang expert Adrian Zenz. Her report has since been debunked by Daniel Dumbrill who is also Canadian, I was appalled for such a low level, biased journalistic practice. There is no place for Asha Tomlinson in CBC, what a waste of our tax dollars to pay these brain washed reporter.
