America Ferrara is one of my favorite actors. The message she relayed in the Ugly Betty series said so much more than this monologue. It showed the possibility of overcoming the negative judgement of others, both male and female. We all know that some of the worst coworkers and bosses are women. Her monologue sounded like something from 1970, without giving props to the '70s women who sacrificed for equality.

I felt singled out again and again during the speech, I've suffered from others' opinions, I overcame it years ago, but I understood it was a distinctly feminist message, and I respect that they feel like it only talks about them and that men cannot suffer or feel the same in practically identical situations.

Allan Watts utilizes the analogy of the tapestry in one of his lectures, about knowing the flip side….Knowing both sides of the proverbial coin…. Really looking at the underbelly. I believe it is simply titled understanding your dark side. Nothing can be fully identified without honestly “seeing” it ALL, the best WE can…Ourselves, and others.
