We don't. He is a drama queen. All debt is not bad. When one travels, a credit card is critical. Dave uses credit cards all the time. He panders to the least intelligent among us. The key is to not rack up debt/credit one cannot afford. Using a debit card tied to primary checking and savings accounts is not smart. Dave is no genius as others far smarter than Dave know what instruments to use for credit and purchases (domestic/international).

Debit cards do not have the same fraud protection as credit cards. I’m a living example, someone cloned my daughters debit card, added it google pay and stole $3,000 (emptied the checking account). Chase bank denied the fraud claim and said they can’t prove the transactions weren’t my daughter. Basically, called us liars and to go pound sand. Use credit cards and pay off the statement balance every month, be disciplined, treat the credit just like your debit card/cash.

Exactly!! But Dave will never mention this. Using a debit card in this day and age is just asking for trouble. Everything is online and easy to steal. No way! I’ll always use a credit card for what I need. Since I have the cash to back all of my purchases theres no issue.

Credit cards are great IF you know how to use them. I put everything on the cards and pay them completely off 7 days before the due date. I have not paid interest on credit cards in over 20 years. I love my cash back and airline miles. Also, there are restaurants, stores, and even certain Walmarts that no longer accepts cash…that is dangerous for people that do not have financial discipline.

If you watch the money guy show, I believe they say that 90% of millionaires in the USA actually use credit cards. Now if only Dave Ramsey was more realistic in his approach instead of the old school scare tactics towards them 100% of the time. I know I’ve personally earned about 1000 dollars in the past 3 years using credit cards without paying any interest whatsoever, and all from purchasing only necessities or things I would’ve already purchased within my budget and still maxing out all my retirement accounts. Most millionaires do this and yet Dave just keeps preaching the opposite. It drives me nuts not gonna lie

Retailers/restaurants/service providers eat those "cash back rewards" though and then pass it on to everyone else with higher prices. There's no such thing as a free reward. Banks want you to use a credit card because they all make money off all of the transaction fees and people not paying them off before the payment is due (interest).

We can't cancel some of the student loan debt and make changes to colleges to prevent this from happening again, yet we can run up the bill for all things outside the country and for the pockets of the congress members.

The cash rewards you're getting are the credit card company giving you money that you already paid in credit card fees back to you, but without interest that you would have earned in a savings or brokerage account. It's like saying "I get money from my tax returns," without realizing that the government is giving your money back to you because they took too much out of your paycheck, and if you'd kept the money, you would have more because you could have invested it or collected interest on it in a savings account.

You do realize the majority of cash back cards do not have an annual fee right? And as long as you pay off the balance in full every month you are literally paying the credit card company nothing. I.e. it's 100% free money. Not to mention, I get to keep my money in a high yield saving account for the full month until I have to pay off my credit card, so I'm also earning interest on that money as well.

You are on the right track! I bought my house 8 years ago on a 30 year loan and decided I didn't want to pay 30 years on it, so I have been making double principal payments since my first payment. I started making triple payments since January.....I have paid $20k in regular due payments but have paid $35k in extra payments.....4 or 5 years left.

I know someone who purchased a 650sqt house for $450k ( a house is a tear down house-very poor condition). Anyway, they have been working on the house since they purchased it. It’s such an old house that things are breaking one after another-total nightmare more than a blessing. They live above they means by dining out on a regular basis and paying $300 in interest on credit card debts. They had to borrow mom & pop to make mortgage payment for some months. It’s shocking that there are a lot people out there making poor decisions.

Unsecured debt is only way to go besides austerity which is best! If you have secured debt tied to house or car be prepared to lose it soon if you don’t have substantial savings outside of banks much greater than the debt!
