Yes white tank tops are still commonly referred to as wife beaters. To us yanks, calling it a vest is weird lol

Yeah, here in America, tank tops are often called wife beaters. Also, I've never heard them called vests before. Here, a vest is a sleeveless garment that buttons or zips or velcros or whatever, basically it clasps in the front, and also is worn over a shirt and in the case of suits over the shirt and under the jacket. Whereas tank tops are always worn either under all other shirts or on their own, without any other shirts.

Tank top shirts earned the nickname wife-beater from the TV show Cops. It became a trope about cops going to a domestic disturbance call and the guys that hit their wives/girlfriends tended to wear tank tops, hence the term wife-beater was coined.

Yeah, we call tank tops "wife beaters" in the US. Especially the white undershirt tank tops. Not sure when it started. My grandparents just called them undershirts, but somewhere "wife beater" became a commonly used term.

@pyro1047 22 күн бұрын
@@JustMe-dc6ks Long as hell rambley explanation: Though commonly attributed to a mugshot of a Detroit man in 1947 that beat his wife to death, that's not real but has become "considered real" due to its popularity when searching for the terms origin. In actuality it's from the 1951 movie "A streetcar named desire", where Marlon Brando plays an abusive husband and wears the now iconic white ribbed tank top/sleeveless undershirt; hence the shirt constantly worn in the movie by the man abusing his wife 🙌🏻 = "Wife Beater". This bought the name around, then with Officers/Sheriffs/deputies responding to domestic violence calls/reports being one of the most frequent (and dangerous) calls they'll be responding to over their career, so naturally when the show COPS came out the featured LEO responding to a DV call/calls/report was a frequent occurrence when there wasn't a car chase or drunk driver, etc. At the same time those undershirts from said movie were cheap and commonly worn, as undershirts... and most people wanting to de-stress or just relax when coming home do what? Remove Excess clothing like shoes, outer layers of unnecessary clothes, pants even if you've got shorts to swap into, already got boxers/boyshorts on, or even just rocking the 'ole Whittie Tighties/panties. Or ya know, they'd just wear the undershirt as a shirt by itself. While wearing these at home, what's below would unfortunately frequently occur... Poor, stressed, and wanting to relax? Naturally a percentage of people will consume alcohol or drugs or whatever helps numb their stress/pain/anger/trauma/etc, but as anyone who's done that knows it only REALLY helps enough at first but even then it can only do so much before you reach the point the negative side effects begin manifesting, becoming stronger, and taking over more and more instead of helping you like at first. But now that's your "baseline" for relaxed and when you don't drink or dose your old "normal relaxed" feels worse (Especially with the negative effects from any physical, and the even worse mental (For me atleast) withdrawal symptoms) than the bad when you do so you still do it; Congratulations, that's the irreversible step that makes you a "Alcoholic/Addict" for life. Yes, you can recover and better yourself back to who you were before; but that damage didn't go away, your brain literally has rewired itself to crave "X" so you feel good especially when you feel bad and while out of sight out of mind works great, when it's in front of you again, or your under a lot of stress, or had a significant emotional event such as losing a loved one, etc... Those temptations, cravings, etc are still rewired and will reassert themselves to some degree and with only the willpower of the individual to hold it back and how intense the craving/temptation felt is or isn't making it easier or harder to resist. That's why a now Sober Alcoholic, ex pack a day smoker, successfully recovered drug addict will still say "Man I need a smoke", "What I'd do for a beer/pint right now", "God, I want a hit so bad right now" literally DECADES after they were able to break free of it when they get stressed out or has just been through a very stressful, depressing/sad, or traumatic event, etc. You might've let go of that need you had, but your body, your mind remembers... Combine these two and sadly lots of anger and stress gets wrongly vented out on the spouse, this can jump to any step as number #1 but usually starts as verbal/emotional abuse, progresses to physical abuse if the abuser doesn't get ahold of themselves or the one abused hasn't left yet, and if the abuser never holds themselves accountable and betters themselves for their partner then they usually start blaming them for all the abuse instead and the worse they get the worse they abuse them like an ouroboros until they end up killing them. Whatever step happened, they're shown on COPS or covered in the local news shown wearing that "Iconic Shirt" after or even during acts of domestic violence and bingo "Wife-Beater" goes from movie reference about the Tank-Top wearing "wife beater" to widespread and well know slang for tank tops worn by "Wife Beaters". Wearing ones fine and doesn't imply or label you as an Abusive POS "Wife Beater", but Abusive POS people that beat their Girlfriends/Wives frequently seem to wear them. P.S. His Wife or Sister-In-Law in that same movie was named "Stella" also known as "STEELLLLLAAAAAAA!"; so, at least from what I've heard, the beer "Stella Artois" in the UK is sometimes referred to as "A Wife Beater" as slang for the beer. (Also drunk lads and their friends screwing around drunkenly screaming "STEELLLLLLAAAA!", which I find pretty amusing imagining" [1](Depending on State, for instance Florida (For The Most Part) only seems so damn crazy compared to the rest of the US because their state laws allow police/arrest reports and personal information of the arestee to be public record anyone can search whereas most other states have some form of privacy protection where the news only gets a brief summary of events and possibly the suspects name and a mugshot.)

I should clarify something he said. The U.S. Military Non-Comissioned Officer corps has a few mantras. One is "If it's stupid, but it works, it isn't stupid". Regular officers have to follow rules. NCOs do what they can't do and the Officer will demote me if i'm truly off the rails. But this symbiotic relationship encourages us to push crazy ideas on Officers until they say "You might be on to something".

The chapter 1 title "Nice Beavers" is almost certainly a reference to the 1988 movie "The Naked Gun." "Operation Chastise," the real-life mission told in "The Dam Busters," was strictly a British "show," as might be said back then.

We were camping out on the shore of a lake way up in the wilds of the Adirondacks when one night there was a tremendous crash right next to our tent .I grabbed my shotgun and jumped out of the tent nude with shotgun at the ready and a flashlight . It turned out that beavers had gnawed down a large tree which fell into the lake about 30 feet from our tent . Incidentally , I HAVE had a beaver land on my face and it didn't hurt a bit or freak me out .Once you get past the smell , you've got it licked .

That's what was so frustrating, they say they've reacted to a lot of TFE so they KNOW or have at least read dozens of comments saying watching TFE you need to wait and WATCH for the post credits many times for the payoff, whether for the joke or clips of the real war hero the videos about like Roy Benavides or Jake "McNasty", etc. He talked about beaver the WHOLE video with a straight face while you can see them smirking and 'bout to crack up from it. Then before Nick gloats about making it through the whole vid knowing damn well what he was saying how he got through it without accidentally making ALL the obvious jokes; AND THEY PAUSED RIGHT BEFORE THAT PAYOFF 😂. Was waiting for them to finally get that release and crack up about it but instead they paused it and never finished; felt like I got hit with a wave of disappointment and blue balls by proxy😂.

I live in the U.S. and I ordered a Ren Sick Boi t-shirt, $25 for shipping... I got it anyway, but that is easily the most expensive shirt I've ever bought. With tax and everything it was nearly $70. Edited portion: I didn't mean to complain or say the price was too excessive. Obviously, being shipped from across an ocean it is going to cost more. I was actually trying to highlight, the despite the cost, I still wanted a Ren shirt.
