The 60s and 70s were a very special time for music. I am glad I had a front row seat.. I miss the acoustic guitar and the art of harmony in singing...

I totally agree. America's music never fades, 28th of August 2024, originally from Caloocan City Metro Manila, Philippines. Now living in Vancouver B.C. Canada. Almost 65 years old....me and my buddies in the 70's in Caloocan City sings with our guitars all America's songs in a regular basis for quite a number of years. Oh, I really missed those wonderful years. Shout out to one of my jamming buddy, his name is Munding. He's the one who taught me how to play the guitar. Also shout to Maloy and Eddie Rock. I have no Idea where are they now.

I remember being a snotty Neil young fanatic in like 6th and 7th grade and I thought that America was a mere ripoff; that any "real" Neil Young fan couldn't also like America. But now that I've been listening to some old America vinyl, I realize that i know every single lyric to their songs. I must have unconsciously been digging them all along!! This live version is amazing. The fact that they could so effortlessly blend those harmonies live, shows the depth of talent in that great band.

what groups are you referring to? Live is always better than recorded. By the way, did you notice that they were playing recorded tracks and lipsyncing vocals. See how easily you knuckleheads were fooled. In the 60's, shows like midnight special didn't actually take a live feed because of feedback and pops that are created from guitar amps and microphones. In some situations, the guitars are never plugged into amps. If you pay attention, you can see it. What you were listening to WAS the recorded tracks from the album. So you see how little you know.
@GuitarZombie8 жыл бұрын

We all miss Dan, his voice was the voice of America. I was lucky enough to see Dan perform twice. I graduated in 1977 and had the opportunity to see them play that summer, without Dan in LA at the Greek. Gerry and Dewey sang their hearts out. What I remember most was the gratitude of the fans in the fact they were still together and we could hear it. Lighter flames filled the stadium. Since that night I have seen them more than I can track. Still working these two. C U tonight in Olympia!

@@robertandrew5768 While America are OK, it's pretty clear to me that George Martin is the driving force behind the mainstream success. I'm not saying these guys couldn't make hits without Sir George, but surely we'd not be engaging in a forum without his production. I don't believe these guys are underrated country rockers, I think they're important soft-rock/pop. Regarding recognition they deserve: when I was a little child, my grandparents had a piano which nobody knew how to play. Inside the bench, I found America's greatest hits sheet book arranged for piano. I learned to teach myself to play the piano in addition to learning how to read the grand staff. Without America, I don't know if I'd even be a musician today!!!!

Lead singer is Gerry Beckley. Dewie Bunell is second guitar, and I think (maybe Dan Peek is on the bass. Michael Woods to the right on electric guitar and Will Lecox on drums.

David Dickey was the usual bass player at that time, but I don't think it's him in the clip

Like many, many great songs from then through today, this one is "alive." The harmonies, the ringing strings, the lively tempos.....just beautiful. Listening to songs like this one on KZbin is a great way to end my day. Thank you, America, and all the other great bands that have composed and played real music. You have given us a priceless musical heritage.

Saw this Band in my freshman year of high school in Oxnard 1974...before they were famous, but the song that to this day is forever etched in my mind is "A Horse with No Name" and "Tinman". Now this is music. No matter how over the years I abused the Old Gray Cells, thiese are songs that you can sing in and out of the shower to and someone will say I know that song.

@@sabbathrbest2655 It was RAF Ruislip near London. Their fathers were stationed at the base. Gerry, Dewey and Dan were classmates at an American high school for U.S. military dependents. That where the three met and formed the band.

Isn't it interesting that this new sound everybody was hot for began with The Eagles. Poco is another similar group that cashed in on that folksy sound. From Australia, Little River Band. It was a great time for music and many talented groups were around unlike today where everything sounds the same. Midnight Special also featured one of my favorites, Johnny Rivers. Anybody remember, Poor Side of Town?
