American 1878 canteen

This is the American 1878 canteen used from 1878 until it began being replaced by the m1910 canteen we are all so familiar with. This canteen came out in 1878 as a more user friendly ergonomic version of the m1858 canteen used through the civil war. These canteens where issued early on with a white cover during the Indian wars and later a khaki/ tan cover towards the Spanish American war. This canteen was issued with a leather shoulder strap for infantry and hooks for cavalry to attach to the saddle and hook into the belt when not mounted. This canteen was also issued with a tin drinking cup usually attached to the sling of the canteen with string or rope. Hopefully you liked this video and subscribed if you like this sort of stuff. Christopher Bolton canteens of a similar shape and style like this were used from about the 1850’s to wwi

Howdy partner my canteen doesnt have the bottom fastener. So when did they stop using the bottom fastener.
