The aspect of speech you describe of phrases like "did you" or "could you" are interesting. As an American, I have noticed this but our English class sort of makes us ignore that aspect of speech. When I write or text friends, I always combine the phrases with apostrophe like "did'ya" "whatch'ya'doin." Your method of adding the j sound in between is a good insight, I didn't even notice that part until you showed it.
