An Airbus A319-112 registration N766US operating as American Airlines Flight 2439 from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (KSRQ) to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) was climbing out of 11,800ft when the crew declared PAN-PAN-PAN due to a Flight Control Issue. The crew worked a smooth return back to Sarasota.

Can someone explain why ATC is clear and pilot was unintelligible in spots?

Distance from the transmitting antenna.

You are listening to LiveATC audio. They have receivers scattered across the country. Radio transmissions can be blocked by another transmitting, unreadable or even not even heard because of distance between the transmitter and the receiver, atmospherics, physical objects on the ground (buildings) or terrain. This is why I always give caution when people give shade to controllers or pilots for not responding to a radio call. WE the listening audience may have heard a radio call through LiveATC's receivers, but the pilot or controller may not due to all of the factors I said above. Hope this helps.

​@@JohnSmith-zi9or I was struggling to hear her in last half of transmissions things improved isnt their a way if there having issues hearing a pilit to either ask them to change frequency or other planes to change frequency
