Fascinating. When I used to fly to Hawaii from Chicago on American, they were using DC-10’s. And the better class was “First Class” definitely like international Business Class.

We’ve been flying the AA nonstop service from ORD and DFW annually for many years. Even though these flights are 8-9 hours in length, AA has never provided amenity kits or stocked the mid galley with self serve snacks on these flights even before Covid. Outbound is always lunch and a pre arrival snack. Inbound is dinner and a pre arrival continental breakfast. Pre Covid they did do their handmade sundaes on the Hawaii flights. Hope they come back at some point. These are domestic flights and AA has never done the full International service on these Hawaii routes even though they are as long as some international routes. Enjoyed your vlog! Hope you had a fun time in Hawaii.

You won’t have international service on a domestic flight regardless of distance. That includes full second meals and the snacks in the bar area. Both those things happen today on international flights so it’s not because of COVID pull backs, it’s the type of flight.

This is domestic first class service. No amity kits and lousy food ans drink. Silly since it’s such a long flight but year it’s not technically internships business service even though it’s the same seats. I flew this exact plane and route to HNL in “business” last month.

As an Executive Platinum with over 3M miles, Amenity kits are available to Executive Platinum on Wide Body Jets with 3 compartments ( First-Business & Economy ) on domestic routes ( NYC /SFO or NYC/HNL) etc. And always on International routes to all passengers in Business and First class

Thanks for the video! I'm booked on AA business class from JFK to Madrid soon, wondered what the business class was like, I usually fly United business but had a bunch of flight credit on British Airways from a cancelled pandemic flight to South Africa, so I was able to use it to book the AA flight nonstop to Madrid without having to fly through Heathrow! Looks pretty good, thanks again.

I flew first from HNL to ORD in March. The food was terrible. I had the Hawaiian chicken. I see you got the same caramel dessert we had. The best part of the flight was the space and comfortable seat. Nobody flies for the food, at least not on American.

I definitely consider the food when I chose my airline. I typically fly Delta but in 2019 I started flying more Alaska simply Because I didn't enjoy the snack boxes. 🤷 Everyone has their thing.

American Airlines only has their Flagship Business class seats on their 777 300-ER aircraft (with 8 First class seats), not on their 200-ER aircraft.

Did they do an equipment swap? Normally the 787-8 flies this route. I was gonna do this, but going to Hwaii via Charlotre instead to fly on the 777

I guess it could, but the hard product is American Airline’s Flagship Business Class. So I guess if you flew this product domestically it would be considered first class, but if you flew the same product internationally then it would be considered business class.

The American Airlines’ 777-200s don’t have their first class, they only have them on their 777-300s. The seat is significantly bigger and improved service and amenities.

Its about $2200 roundtrip ORD-HNL and fare goes up as business class fills up, so book early for lowest possible fares.

Just a heads up to anyone planning to visit, the Hawaii governor has asked people not to travel to Hawaii right now and is considering another shutdown. The Native Hawaiian (indigenous) populations are being hard hit by tourists bringing the covid Delta variant into the islands and not social distancing or wearing masks. Some hospitals have entered a state of emergency and are no longer accepting patients. The rising cases have a direct correlation to when tourism reopened and more people are hospitalized and dying as a result. Let’s protect indigenous populations, please delay travel.
