I felt really sick to my stomach watching this film. Having enjoyed many heist films, a little part of me always wondered what it would be like to do one. This being a true story, it relayed very well the growing anxiety one would feel if you weren't a born criminal and decided to do one just for kicks. I think this film is underrated because the trailer makes it look like a tongue in cheek black comedy whereas it's a pretty serious film. And it was probably not advertised well as I don't even remember this ever coming out and it's only a few years old.

Yeah the advertising was shit. I only heard about this movie bc i followed one of the actors in it when it was being made. I think more film festival-esque people knew of it though cause it got some good recognition (as it deserves)

This movie is actually jaw dropping, mind blowing and fantastic.. probably one of the greatest hiest movie ever.. seriously I was literally holding my breath during the hiest scene and it felt like a rollercoaster ride throughout the whole movie.. so clevery directed and so well acted.. hats off to the whole team

I knew Evan was gonna kill it cause he always does. There’s not a single Evan Peters performance I’ve seen where I was disappointed. Barry I thought was tremendous in Killing Of A Sacred Deer who came out of nowhere and now is doing movie after movie and in this one he shows his depth because this character is the complete opposite of his character in Killing Of A Sacred Deer. Jared I had never heard of before. He looked familiar but I didn’t know who he was. Of all the actors he had the least meatiest role but he was so compelling with how he displayed a true teens emotions who was nervous and frantic. I thought his performance truly balanced the others. But the one who impressed me the most was Blake Jenner. He’s the last to be introduced and once he’s onscreen everything starts to take place and the action really picks up and elevates. Blake Jenner I had only seen in the Edge Of Seventeen and what i enjoy about him is he doesn’t use his good looks to define his roles he actually gives his characters real meaning and depth. In both films he turns ordinary teenage students who are supposed to be model citizens and into their fitness and shows layers and vulnerability and the cracks and imperfections in humans that aren’t always shown within. Blake has this charisma about him but he’s not afraid to really go for it. He doesn’t hold back and he always takes you by surprise. He’s clearly about the journey a character takes. It’s a beautiful thing to watch. I look forward to seeing what other work he does in the future. I think he just needs the right film and the right role with just enough juice to elevate him to that status that actors like Lucas Hedges & Timothee Chalamet have entered.

That "maybe we dodged a bullet" story was great 🤣 It's a stunning deconstructionist heist film, brings back the humanity lost in many other of these kinds of films. Props to the editing and cinematography team, reminded me of Edgar Wright's work.

If you haven't been able to tell literally since the early ahs days he was always more comfortable letting everyone else speak around him and he says a few words. Seems like the kinda guy that is just very reserved when cameras are around but an absolute blast to have in a personal hangout

I think this is the first film where the actors aren't much better looking than the person they play. If you didn't know any of these guys, It would be difficult to know who's the actor and who's the real person. Great Movie!

This was a great movie. You kinda don't expect it at first but it's very well done, amazing filming and storytelling approach, and great actors. At the end of the day, it feels like going back to those years where those group dynamics are so complex and it makes you realize how friend associations can have a strong impact at that age. It's a great deal of courage to revisit that, especially when "the old gang" was not the best and led you to prison.

Travelers brought me here (Trevor). This movie is perfect. Raw, real, intense. My anxiety was through the roof. I love movies based on a true story. I love documentaries and to incorporate the real people was a gift. I did look up the story after to dig more into it tho.. They served 7 1/2 out of 9 years for their sentence. Sending strength to the victim Librarian BJ. Gooch . Her ptsd will be life long battle for this. ♥️ I hope she feels free in her retirement.

Loved this movie!. And I watched the 90s Fargo movie recently, which said it was a true story when it wasn't as part of the gimmick.. so I wasn't even sure this movie was actually a true story. What an incredible and bizarre event and retelling. And all for nothing... other than this masterpiece!

I mean I love these kinds of movies, stories of these kinds of heists, video games like this... It's fascinating and exhilarating, and yet I know it's wrong, can easily lead to great evil and suffering... But we lionize the guys that do it, and if me and many other young men are honest with themselves - we'd fucking do it given the opportunity and the belief we could get away with it. What does that say about our nature and our culture? Like the actual heisters are here getting applauded, are out of prison, are now semi famous... And people see them as winners. People who know stealing is wrong.

It's very hard to watch this interview remembering what Betty Jean Gooch went through. I hope she got some kind of apology from them. The guys did something irreparable and received punishment for it, but still, the amount of fame and popularity (and probably money and fans) they gained feels wrong.

the movie is great. But...based on the heist scene...these guys are really horrible. They say they feel guilty about assaulting the librarian, but I think you have to be absolutely sociopathic to go through with that in the first place (particularly Warren, who was more than fine with assaulting her).

Part of me feels bad for the real guys. They could have just graduated college, got a good job in tech, invest a little. They potentially could have made a million+ dollars in a couple of years. They did an interview on BBC Outlook, in which they were very remorseful and made the point several times that they had been extremely stupid, had hurt people and underlined how much they want young people to understand that what they did isn't cool and shouldn't be emulated.

Not really sure why people think this is about race or the crime merited a longer sentence. I guess grievance does indeed derange some people.

First of all, this looks a really good movie and I look forward to seeing it. Secondly, after being convicted and serving time, all four men seem to have grown up a great deal and now live successful law-abiding lives as Writers/Activists/Artists... (We all do crazy things as teenagers; I'm not judging anybody here...) But there's a 'HOWEVER'... They planned to steal and then sell privately for personal profit, scholastic original works that were, at least in an academic sense, invaluable. (Thus robbing scholars/students of the opportunity to study the works and advance our knowledge.) In doing that, they TASERED a 50 year-old woman. (This COULD have resulted in her death! It definitely resulted in her being traumatized.) Their time, (seven years with time off for good behaviour...) was served in a Minimal Security Prison. Imagine they had NOT been 'privileged' WHITE offenders, but BLACK teens? (One imagines the sentencing might have been somewhat different...) All four men seem to be getting on with their lives. For this, I am happy for them. But this was NOT a harmless student prank. (To view it as such is wrong.) To CELEBRATE IT as such is irresponsible, at best. I STRESS, I have NOT SEEN THE FILM!!! (Perhaps the men express regret, apologize, are sorry for the fact that they committed a heinous crime and in the course of that commission could have killed, (if not intentionally...) a middle-aged lady-librarian? That's called MANSLAUGHTER.) Yet, in the society we live in now, or at least in its MEDIA, these convicted criminals are 'celebrities' or portrayed as such, as much and alongside the ACTORS who portray them? (That just isn't right...) There is of course NO SUCH THING as 'White Privilege' in Modern America. (Or is there?) If this film does ANYTHING, it asks THAT QUESTION... xx SF

You have no clue what you're talking about - the maximum sentence anyone can be convicted to for the kind of crime they committed is 108 months, so 9 years. They were first-time offenders, no property was seriously damaged, no one was seriously hurt, they confessed the crime - 7 years is a pretty normal sentence, black or white. Just because the crime was peculiar and goofy and there is a film about it, it doesn't mean it was more serious than any other second degree robbery.

Too bad these guys are now out of jail and enjoying being celebrities...but why not bring the librarian to the panel?
