Lesley Gore just sang what was given to her to sing. She was just a chubby, confused Jewish girl from Tenafly with good connections. Right after she hit with, what some consider an early feminist anthem, You Don't Own Me, she was given the anything but empowering, That's The Way Boys Are. As for Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 60 million assassinated in the womb children preceeded her in death. And their murder she wholeheartedly endorsed, but she needn't fear a confrontation - where they are she more than likely won't be.

She's A Fool was not an instant hit, even Lesley didn't like it. After she recorded it, they took a tape of it across the street to the radio station to get listener reaction. Everybody hated it. They discovered their mistake: The wrong tape was taken to the station. Someone had picked up an "unmixed" tape. Once the right tape was played on the radio, everyone loved the song.

Sighhhhhhh.....this is the most isn't it? The guys are all drop dead adorable! Did you catch how Barbara glanced at Bruce toward the end??? Wow. I think I'm going to cry...big ol' lump in my throat. I adored Lesley Gore and this song, although up there with my favorites, isn't my top choice; that would be "California Nights". The dancers! I wonder if anyone went home with bruises from sharp elbows? Bumpty Bump Bumpty Bump is right! The little fellow I love (Aaron knows which one) I think he got shoved toward the second row at the beginning of the song. He always had sad eyes. Wish I knew his name. I kind of disagree with the age of innocence. At least for me that wouldn't come until 1968. This whole country went straight to Hell. 2020 gives me the same feeling. Thank you Aaron. Yeh Dad...this was the best! Many many prayers for our California buddies. Please take care of yourselves. You can rebuild a house, but there is only one YOU. I want you all safe. Please send prayers, kind thoughts, good spirit, Reiki...whatever is your thing to those of us in the southeast. Covid is relentless. One of Leslie's best-love the vocals, rhythm and piano backing. Many people think this was the last years of innocence before music changed with the British invasion, but many of those imports as well as much American music often had the same basic themes until around 1970. The dance steps and clothing styles were slowing changing however. But the girls in my Jr HS and HS still used a lot of Aqua-net throughout the decade!

I've watched this repeatedly just now, there is so much to capture here in light of events to occur in our country as well as with AB. (I wouldn't be born yet for another year in Philly!) That opening shot..."hoggers" for the camera! Some of the girls looked like they were wearing their Catholic school uniforms, but on a Saturday? Nah. At 1:42 I like that couple in the middle doing that "switch and spin" sort of thing. What dance move was that? At 1:57 it looks like there are "grown-ups" in there! He's a tall man & his dancing partner is feeling her hair, he is talking to a woman that looks like a grandma and the lady passing her and smiling also looks like she might be a 'grown-up'! I really like how those 2 ladies are just smiling & laughing...nice, but that guy...the look on his face as he looks up into the camera a couple of times, he's like a 'typical' guy from Philly! I suspect he was being cynical & funny at the same time! I really enjoyed this clip & song! Thx for taking the time to post this! BTW - I read your notes, it's too bad that group from the U.K. were never heard from again...that's showbiz!

@@jackanthony976 It seems that after Quincy Jones left Mercury in mid-late 1965, Mercury couldn't find the right material and right producer for Lesley. Although she had a top 20 hit with California Nights, there was no major success. Mercury tried a number of producers but nothing clicked. Mercury released a Golden Hits Vol 1 album in an attempt to generate interest in her, but it did not work so they dropped her from their roster of artists.

People seem like they are having fun. I wish we could experience fun joy and love at the same time we work on ending racism, poverty and oppression. That's what they did all the way to and through the civil rights movement. They had fun joy and love while trying hard to solve the world's problems, which we and they knew would never be fully solved. In that way they were smarter than us. They were realists. Now, if someone see's me having any fun, joy or love I get chastised and forced to feel guilty because someone in the world isn't feeling fun joy love at the same time as me. Seems an impossible hopeless situation. Like rats running on a wheel with no way off.
