Ultras are the most committed people in a club. It's a lifestyle, they are organized and live it every day. They come from all parts of society and organize choreos etc. They go to every game and take the club very seriously. It is also about defending your city and territory against other Ultras groups. You show this through stickers and graffiti and fans are strictly seoparated and whenever ultra groups do clash it can get violent, especially with rival teams. Ultras are also against the continuin commercialization of the sport and organize protests and other things to keep ticket prices down and stand for the rights of football fans

One thing, what needed to point out is: The part at the end, with the big banners and all those choreos, they are all selfmade by the ultra-groups. Planned, financed, painted, built and set up all by the individual groups themselfes. When it comes to realy big ones, easily 10k to 100k moneywise, countless hours of voluntary work of many people, only for a big picture which is only visible for several minutes and than its gone. Thats what i love most of the ultra movement in our beloved game besides the unbreakable support during the games. I am myself not an ultra, but definitly a full supporter of them. Love supporting the team on the pitch, love pyroshows etc.

Your team is your religion. I bleed inside when they lose, I'm euphoric when they win. The ups and downs are crushing being a hardcore fan to a team. For months each years, we struggle with those up and downs. I would die for my team. But i will never abandond my team, because they are the best and my religion. (From Sweden and IFK Gothenburg is my team). Also to answer your question, wikipedia Ultras and you will find a part of "Hooligans" on there. The Hooligans are called "Firms".

We have to made it clear. ULTRAS are fans that are sneaking pyro to the matches and they are doing graffitis and tifos(displays) about the club and everything they want- sometimes even about the politics. Ultras usually dont fight if they dont have to, however in football culture in europe it is a rule that you have to take care and secure the things like flags related to the club so if some hooligan is trying to steal it the ultras probably will be willing to fight for the glory and honour of his team. Ultras in europe especially in Poland are putting a really big material that covers the stand and underneath that banner ultras group is changing their outfits and putting masks to not be identified by the police, cause actions like lighting up flares on the stadiums is highly illegal and you can be sentenced for up to 5 years. And when they all are wearing differenr things and are covered their is a sign from coordinator by megaphone to lift up the banner and everyone on the stadium sees that somehow there are people that have masks on and they are having in hands pyrotechinivs like flares and after some period of time the coordinator is doing countdown from 10 to 1 and after it the flares all all around the stand and after it they are putting banner again to cover the stand and they doing the same thing changing outfits etc. There is no single ultras that was caught by the police if it is organised group. And ultras are just creating good athmosphere on the stands and are trying to attract people to chant louder etc. HOOLIGANS - are fans that are fighting with the police and with the fans of other clubs just for fun. But some of the hooligans doesnt support their team that much, some part of those people use the clubs logo and name just as a justification for something. In Poland hooligans are smuggling tons of drugs through friendships with other clubs hooligans. And hooligans are also fighting for the flags for ex legia hooligans have stolen 58 big flags of Jagiellonia and than Legia hooligans burned it on the stadium and that provoked Jagiellonia fans to fight and they were fighting on the stadium but right now it is not that common that fans are fighting on the stands, they usually do it outside the stadium in agreed place or smth like that.

To make it even more clear... Fans are often arrested. There are fans in prison in every moment. In Belgrade, Serbia, we consider ourselves Ultras but I doubt that there is a group anywhere in the world that is more violent than Delije, for example. No matter if they consider themselves to be hooligans or ultras they will hide, run away or get beaten if they meet fans from Belgrade

The Ultra thing to explain is not an easy thing. Maybe u can say thats the "die hart" Fans. The Ultras are so much more as a Fangroup in the Stadium. They are mostly Member from the Club. In Germany we didnt have "Ownerships" like the MLS in the USA. These Clubs are mostly Memberships. Ultras do a lot of Charity, Street Fests. They Support the Youth Games too and so on. I hope u understand what iam writing my englisch isnt the best. :) U can split the Homefans in 3 Groups: Casuals (+Eventfans), Ultras and Hooligans (Hooligans are mostly these Guys with the fighting spirit.)

I'm italian and the situation is similar. The Ultras are very tough guys into the stadium to support the team but they are very friendly in their headquarter that is a kind of pub with drinks, food, music and other. Sometimes they even arrange entertainments for children.

The problem with football or “soccer” in USA is that it is a middle class sport where pros go to play for a franchise. Everywhere else you will find that the game is for the poor or working class people where clubs are part of the community fabric. You cannot franchise passion.

Ultras are a different type of fan. These are people who don't go to the stadium to watch the match, they go to feel part of a group and for the pleasure of clashing with rival fans and the police. Normal people hate the ultras because they are a source of problems and destroy everything as they pass. Obviously the ultras will tell you that it's all about honor, defending the team etc. But I see no honor in beating up a policeman who is doing his job (the police in Europe are not like the American ones), nor in destroying cars or shops near the stadium.

these are not your classic fans and there is very violent and bloody side that is not shown in this video.. Check some clashes from Euro 2016 or 2012. Game ends and all this moves to the streets. Clashes between groups, then comes the riot police than clashes with them and at the end 50 people in hospital, 10 cops hurt, 100 people arrested, burnd cars and big trail of destruction. People even die, quite often in some parts of Europe.. Imagine two busses on highway, each going in its own directon stop when they spot each other.. 50 people with bats come out from each and clash in the middle of the highway..There are only few cops in escort that can only open fire and special police in 30 mins away..You sit in your car and watch how heads get smashed in front of you.

That is a very specific case atleast when it comes to Sweden, nowdays hooligans decide a place and then they fight their asses off long away from the arena, because they wanna fck each other up, but dont wanna get caught.. Like i said, only in sweden i can contest testament to this. Most of the Hooligan leaders got each others phone numbers and just give a call "u wanna fight tomorrow at bla bla time?" Also ULTRAS are not hooligans... so dont get them mixed up, because that is bullshit.

I live close to stadium and before games there are chopers in the air, riot police round stadium, police on every corner in that part of the town etc.. Its not easy to organized big fight in those conditions. It happen many time on higway or during the trip on resting areas etc..
