In Europe its about team and not about players, you can be the best player in the league, you make two or three stupid mistakes, sometimes maybe even one, youll be benched. Also while yes,in Europe you have bandwagon fans, its a smaller precentage compared to USA,whether youre born into it,or you chose it randomly as a kid,you usually stick with one team for the rest of your life,no matter the sport

This is why it is funny hear some nba fans say that newcomers from europe will crumble under pressure. Luka played infront of these crowds when he was 16 against grown men, who sure as hell tried to hurt him during the game cause he was one of the best players in opposition team. I really don´t think he will feel as much pressure in his basket balling life ever again.

9:34 in europe we dngaf about players. They come and go but the club is forever. You mostly are born into a family who has a prefered club and get your first team gear as an infant or just grow attached to your local club because you fell in love with it despite your parents not having any affection for it. It‘s not about the quality of the players or the trophies. Just unconditional support no matter what.

The thing about European club culture is this - The clubs aren't franchises, but deeply rooted into the cities history. A club doesn't only have one team, but many teams for many different sports. The last video is from Panathinaikos Athens, which has a football and basketball team among other sports. So the ultra fans of the football team show up to basketball games of their clubs basketball team as well. That's why they have this kind of atmosphere at basketball games, the Balkans are known for that. Watch waterball games of Balkan teams, they are just as insane

I lived in Greece from 2001 to 2005 in Athens - and went to one basketball game. It's nuts. My ears rang for two days. Non-stop chants and standing/jumping. I actually would not go to a football (soccer) game - too dangerous. Really. I lived near/10 blocks from the Panathinaikos football stadium, and whenever I stepped outside, I knew when there was a home game: I smelled tear gas. Fans would (overnight, when there was no one there, thankfully) Molotov cocktail opposing fans' club houses around the dates of important matches. It's all part of the club system: for example Aris, AEK, Olympiakos all have a football team, basketball team, volleyball team, etc. Men's and women's in many sports. As for the craziest places to see a game? Greece, Turkey, Israel, the Balkans. There is a fun article (maybe 4 years old, from SI?) where a reporter was interviewing Luka, Ntilikina, and some other foreign rookies, and he asked them if they were intimidated playing at the Forum, MSG, Boston Garden, etc., and they just about laughed at him - as in, are you kidding us. Look for some of the videos of ex Panathinaikos and AEK Greece players from America, talking about playing there. (Here is one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp-oZqaLYtZ3l7s .) Soldiers escorting their buses to the arenas, having cell phones and "D" batteries chucked at them, et. al. It is DIFFERENT. (But I confess, I am looking to retire in Greece in a few years - a great lifestyle despite the quirks.)

Ok so a couple of things about european basketball. One team was practicing for the next game against Crvena Zvezda and coach was like "ok we gonna do all the practices while blasting our opponent's fans singing through the speakers on full volume, so we can get somewhat used to not hearing each other during the game". I read that and was like "damn, good idea". Another thing is I happened to go to euroleague final four and got seats in Olympiacos (greek powerhouse) fan sector. I was supporting another team, but whenever Olympiacos was not playing against us, I couldn't help but ask the guys next to me what are the lyrics (yes, lyrics, not chants, they sing for the whole game) and join them. The atmosphere is so surreal it's crazy. Not to mention I witnessed how fans of one team, which I'm not mentioning, chased fans of the other with bats, metal pipes and whatever could be used for beating the living sht out of someone for a solid 15 minutes.

Being a fan of a certain club in europe is basically a way of life and the fans are uber dedicated to it so if the club is lets say Olympiakos the fan are following it whether its football or basketaball(those are usually the main ones) but they can just as well support womens volleyball just cause the name of the club is still Olympiakos...the loyalty and dedication to the club is unparallel to anything you have there in the US.Actual lives are frequently lost for this type of dedication...the best way to describe it to a non european is that the club for them is like a religion.....

US fans are Customers. Europe fans are passionate to support the Club. In football, basketball, esport or chess. It doesnt matter. The Club is the identity of your city or often just Part of the City. And you will give everything to support and defend your Home. Thats what it means to be a Fan in europe. Not just buying stuff and sing the national anthem with the Enemy.

Your forgetting that fan/club loyalty in the states is insanely low, proberly due to people moving around so much, it results in there being no real fan base for anything... in europe you support the town you, your parents, your grandparents etc are from, for life, it allows for a MUCH stronger fanbase buildup.

In europe it's not about beeing fan of the best players or the best team, you're fan of your club. You're supporting your club your hole life. It doesn't matter how good they are. My team is a german 3rd division team. Me and my wife both have tattoos of our club, and of course, if we go to the stadium, we're supporting our club the whole game. And if it's a away game we're over 1000 people traveling to the city our team is playing. And this is 3rd division, in 1 division the teams of corse have more fans. Eintracht Frankfurt played europa league quarter final against barcelona 2 years ago. They had 30.000 supporters at the away game 800 miles away from their home city! I love the NFL and NBA because of the good sports you can watch, but atmosphere in america is not worth to call it atmosphere compared with europe or south america

At around 9:00 you asked what team that is. It´s Red Star Belgrade. You can literally feel the floor shaking. We are always louder than the Euroleague Anthem they play before the Euroleague games. In Europe you live for your club if you are not a casual. You are born into it and even in families you fight. For example my cousin is a Partizan Belgrade fan thanks to his mom and I am a Red Star fan. We can´t watch the games together when we play against each other. We even didn´t talk for weeks after some games.

He hits the nail on the head without realising it when talking about how much he loves American fans by saying "we are all fans of an organization". In the US teams are organizations. In rest of the world a team is the heart of a community. It is like the difference between the deli counter at a wallmart, and the local mom and pop deli down the street from your building.

I try to explain why it is like that in Europe Most of the teams (no matter if we talk about football or as you call it soccer, basket or volley or whatever) was usually founded and played by someone of the worker class more than 100 years ago (except some "luxury" teams that usually doen't have so passionate fans). All these teams were representative of the lower class of our cities and we supported them for generations and generations (and in Europe teams NEVER change city, it's impossible). The love for those "colors and flag" passed from parent to children for 100+ years. It's more than "sport", it's tradition... it's the stories your grand dad tell you when you go to the stadium with him and your dad for the first time.

I have sang the chant at 11:30 on OAKA in January Vs Partizan and some other chants means I was with sore throat for around a week shouting Chants for 2 hours. It's the most well known Panathinaikos Chant. Fans Sing the chant CERTAINLY During the end of the game at win. Crazy atmosphere and it is once of a lifetime experience. I assume Serbians specially Partizan and Red star fans are also Very wild,Turks , Lithuanians (Big Basketball European Powerhouses countries) and during Euroleague Casts you can hear the buzz even at your speakers on Broadcast. In Greece which Panathinaikos is based There is also Olympiacos (Panathinaikos Arch Enemy at Pireaus) and On Thessaloniki There is Aris (They have big fanbase due to they had 2 of the Greatest Greek Basketball players of all time: Nick Galis and Panagiotis Giannakis) and Aris Arch Rival Paok.

What you guys should understand, is that Ultras/Hools do not care about the game. They have their own game, their own sport. Football, basketball... who wins or lose is irrelevant to them. We do not hava street gangs such as Bloods & Crips, Hells Angels etc. We have "firms" who support the colors of their own fan club, have alliances protect their districts, control drug traficking etc... usually its connected to football, but when their football club is emberasing bad, they move to basketball or some other sport... but overall for them it doesn't matter...

If it's a game between two rivals it's quite often that the arena is full an hour before the game. Not only that the fans have the atmosphere going all the time and is so loud that the players preparing for the game don't bother using headphones to listen to music. In some cases the fans of the visiting team are not allowed into the arena. It's just too crazy and dangerous.

In Europe local fans job is to intimidate the rival so that their team has more chances to win, and you go there to "defend" your club, which represents your city or the part of the city where you grow up. It'ls like going to a "Show" in the US, while in Europe some games feel like going to War. In terms of quality, it is not as good as NBA, and will probably never be. Players follow the money. They pay a lot Less in Europe, then you add up 4 periods of 10' minutes instead of 12', lower 3point shooting percentage and a lot more defensive tactics. Games normally have only around 160pt. You have to be there to enjoy it

Got a lot of friends in the ultra scene (Germany) for football clubs. I mean in the US you have a event made from. Money for people with money. It’s a family event some pop music and stufff, little kids can smile… I mean it’s cute and all but I am used to football crowds here and in comparison, it’s kinda cute what they do in the US.

The North Americans are more chill while the Europeans look like a bunch of soldiers marching to some war 😂I find this is the main difference between the two.

Nice reaction If you liked it you should react to American basketball players that played in Europe talking about their experience. It's nice to see it through American eyes There are 5 clips of it, something like that.

The most fanatic fans in Europe are Greece, Serbia, Turkey. This happens in big rivalries and mostly in Euroleague. It's the true meaning of home court. The idea is to scare the visiting team. I've been to one of these games. Women and small kids don't usually attend. A lot of vulgarity in the chants. Your legs go numb and you can actually faint. It not for mild people. Remember all European clubs have professional fans.
