Gosh, I wish there was a closer supplier for that feed! 600 miles is the closest location. That 7% fat content is AMAZING!

I like in NJ I ordered and had LTL (less then truck load) Estes or any of them trucking companies will drop in your driveway. I have warehouse with forklifts so it was cheaper for delivery. Believe me I follow what Madelyn says and my birds are unbelievable 7 weeks I had few at 39-40Oz most were low 30 0z. Totally worth getting my guys are 1-3 weeks behind The birds love the food, I give baby grit until 7-8 weeks then switched too regular grit. Not 1 pasty butt. Best of luck

So, do you seed your foraging areas annually? Our chickens do a good job at ravaging our foraging area. Second, do you know if the feed will make it further west?

@@mikemacinnes6120 Hmmmmm. That’s a thought! But it sounds like quite a chunk of change and would need somewhere to store it for the whole season. We are just not to that point yet, but that is definitely an option in the future. I have been using the meat bird feed from nutrena religiously for several years with meat birds, and, the American Bresse seem to do well on it. I change them over to a high protein, egg producer feed from the same brand with the same amount of protein with really good success once they go out to the big coops. Thanks for the suggestion! I feel like I am a more budget, conscious breeder, but I will splurge on the number of chickens I am feeding in order to have the larger pool to choose from. 🤦♀️

@@lmullens75 I used same feed as you it is like night and day the difference. I have a lot of birds I breed ABC doing my own feed trial. I have 30 8 week old and my biggest male yesterday 48.4 oz. Female 42.5. Weights every week shock me. Other guys are high 30’s. 35-39 average. Have 6 week old guys that are on same weight schedule. Check local other chicken page see if someone wants to split feed with you. I told feed store to have people near me call. Had 3 people buy bags of feed off me. I only charged them cost. 23% protein must be the key. You got do what works for you! Best of luck. Any questions feel free to hit me up

@@mikemacinnes6120 Thanks!!! I was weighing my nine week old a couple weeks ago and had one boy that was 50 ounces! I was flabbergasted to say the least! I even went back and double checked their hatch date because I could not believe what I saw. Especially after having had coccidia and losing several from the same batch, I did not expect them to flourish like that. Anyway, Maybe I get with my tax guy and figure up my feed bill from last year and try to keep track of it better so that I could know how much of the Bresse specialty feed to order for next year season

2:30 in culinary terms, we call it Terroir “taste of place” a French word meaning soil or earth. It is pronounced “tare-wah.” In the wine world it means the combined influence that the soil, sun, wind, and climate have on the growth of the grape and the finished product. Terroir is the basis of the French wine appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) system, and why Bresse are only Bresse, blah blah blah. The important take away is your birds finished on a different pasture only a 1/4 mile away can taste completely differently

There are 2 salts on the feed label. Do you know what they are?
