I was raised surrounded by dogs and have bred dogs all my life: all large breed such as German Shepherds, Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Dalmatians, Rottweilers, Great Danes and American Bulldogs (Bully type at 130 lbs. males and 120 lbs. my female dogs). Hands down the American Bulldogs is the best dog breed ever I've come across with. They love be inside the house and don't need too much exercise or long walking as people might think; AB are Mastiff breed and very laid back dogs...wonderful around kids. In my experience the best way to feed them is BARF, raw diet..., no kibbles and I learned that the hard way by spending a lot of money in expensive dog food such as Orijen and Taste of the Wild which cost me more money spent on vet and by losing 5 of my AB dogs of cancer. Currently, I own 2 huge healthy males without any health issues since I switched them from kibbles to to raw diet: it's cheaper and healthier but don't take my word for granted and do your own research.

My wife and I rescued a A.B. 6 months ago . She was terrified of everything and everyone especially Men. Been 6 months she has made great progress ! Still gets nervous around strangers. We can't change her past only give her a better future. To tell you the truth I think Bella rescued us.

This was beautiful to read ! you wrote this a month ago and i hope that she is still doing much better. Just a little tip for you and your wife. Whenever someone new meets Bella and them a treat but have them ignore her until she walks up to them then ask that person hand her a treat. Do not make eye contact as that is very intimidating for a shy dog but by the person giving her a reward when she does say hi to them she starts to learn that new people are not something scary but can be a reward. Just a small tip to help with your progress. I hope this helps and she gets so much better with time. You guys are beautiful for adopting her. May God bless you always

Every year I ask “Santa” for Christmas in our letters. Ha. One day I will own one!!! Beautiful dogs! Can’t wait till there on the Westminster Dog Show here in America. I had a standard AB and he was VERY adaptive to training. In fact he was probably easier to train the basics on than any of my labs were. With positive reinforcement and lots of hugs and kisses for completing a task he just mastered things so fast. As for his friendliness, he ADORED my children (aged 11, 8 and 1). My 8yr old daughter used to literally sleep on his back when he laid down on the floor and he loved it. He would snuggle up with her and put his paw on top of her shoulder when they were next to each other. His only downside was that he was so big that he didnt realize his own size when next to my infant. But this is with any large breed really. As for other dogs, he was perfect and had ZERO aggression. He was bitten at a dog park by another dog and he just shrugged it off. However, if a stranger wandered too close to my house or God forbid, came within 20feet of my children, he was very protective and showed his potential. He was 95lbs of solid muscle. These are not good dogs to leave alone for long periods as they do have separation anxiety. But if you can spend most of your time with the dog you will find a willing and loving protector who is full of silliness and laughter.

American bulldogs are some mighty fine dogs. Much respect to working/purpose bulldogs such as American bulldogs and American pit bulls. Not only their power, drive, and grit, but their well-rounded disposition and overall concept. With dogs such as these, you have a dog that can work hard as a partner/purpose animal and then go home and love just as hard as a family companion. As one well-known author, historian, and bulldog fancier, Diane Jessup, writes in one of her books: "A breed that, until the late 1980s, was virtually unheard of, this breed was made from existing lines of large pit bulldogs during the eighties to attract the novice pit bulldog owner who thought 'bigger is better.' Pit bulldogs which survived and developed along unique lines in secluded Southern states. Some lines of American bulldog are pit bulls crossed with any of a half dozen large mastiff-type breeds." Very sturdy, and well-rounded dogs. Not to step on anyone's toes, but I would fancy the Scott type American bulldog over the Johnson. The Scott type, at least to me, embodies the true spirit and ability of working/purpose bulldogs a bit more than the Johnson and have greater agility and higher levels of drive. They are closer to pit bulldogs in their build and work ethic and really do show that bigger is not necessarily better.

True. I love the Brindle/White Johnsons as they're massive goofballs, funny, sensitive and smack bang between the boxheaded Johnson and Scott.

I love my American bulldog. She's so sweet. Cats only get attention if they run. If they ignore her she will walk right by them. She loves most people and hasn't met a dog yet she won't play with. Mine may not be the standard of the breed but of the 3 American bulldog I've spent a lot of time with they are all like that
@ngin69174 жыл бұрын
Mine's the same way, I've actually never met an American Bulldog that doesn't love other dogs and people. Every once in awhile, mine will get nervous around a person; and I trust her instincts lol, If my dog doesn't like you, you're probably not worth knowing(because as it stands, she tends to like people that even I don't like). But every American Bulldog I've met has been like her too, they assume you're fun and want to just play with them until you prove otherwise. She does hold a grudge though, she won't start shit; but if you start shit, she won't let it go.

Protects our chickens and rabbits on her own. We never trained her. Resucued her when she 4 months old, from day one she has never messed in the house, she is 2.6 yrs now. We got an adult female American bulldog( owner had to part with) dog about 7years old with no training.. this is the best house dog we’ve ever had. In 6 months she found her spot in the family. Despite having no training she’s very intelligent and adapted to training with ease. Very integrated in her new family, loyal, playful, energetic.. everything you want in a house dog. I want another one. This female American bulldog is on the smaller size, very strong dog. If you want a good house dog, this is good choice.

My mum doesnt like big dogs and didnt respect my choice at first. She even fussed her from arms length, now she adores my dog and hugs and kisses her. Also I dont know what AB's you have seen but my dog is exceedingly clever and is very easy to train we have lots of party tricks that really impress people. She knows lots of words and if I say let's go to my brothers house she knows exactly where to go and takes me there. She even knew that I was adopting her at the home. She was really patient being fitted for her harness and when she saw my car she went straight in.
