It's delightful to hear you engage with these topics, Wes. You & Michael Sugrue really are the current centers of conversation/thought about the vast variety of philosophical/metaphysical/theological topics in an easy to understand format. Really appreciate y'all.

Enjoyed this and would love to hear more discussions on how influential Calvinism and religiosity has been in Anerican society

It would be good to know of Calvinist effects upon the Swiss psyche also, especially, considering how powerful Swiss NGO's and finance are.

@47:00 Philosophy vs. Theology: Philosophy is the study of the history of wisdom, Theology is the study of the history of ignorance. Both are valuable.

Calvinistic materialism would seem to explain the strange appeal of a certain hedonistic billionaire politician for US evangelical Christians. Right?

I’ve had the idea, which would be nearly impossible to prove, that a large percentage of the individuals that emigrated to the USA would be narcissistic types with a tendency towards sociopathy. I’ve always imagined that when these individuals finally left for America their neighbors breathed a sigh of relief.😅

Quakers, poor? Better look again. They were not to marry outside the group. Hence, they had to gather converts or fade away. Eventually, they became a small sect.

I got sober a couple years ago and the combination of that and the Woke made me really start questioning where ideas come from. Most of us just live the way we were raised and never question the origins of the ideas we live by. They've had enough time to be around we just assume they are self evident truths but then you dig them up and wow....I don't actually agree with many of the ideas I've lived by for 40 some years and seriously doubt most other people are aware of the origins of their ideas. 😆

For anyone looking into Calvinism, my advice is to run as fast as you can away from these people. They preach a COMPLETELY different Jesus who does not love everyone, did not die for everyone, and does not want everyone to repent and be saved. Their twisted theology comes first above the clear biblical Jesus who loves all, wants all to be saved, and died for all.

My brother, Jesus may have died for everyone, but that doesn't mean that everyone will be saved. Everyone may have the potential to be saved, but not everyone will actualize that potential. People will be in Hell because, to them, Christ's sacrifice was meaningless. So it makes sense why Calvinists would interpret a limited atonement since the atonement did not reach the unsaved. I assume you believe that Hell is real, if you believe the word of the Bible, so maybe your dispute with Calvinism is merely verbal.
