Tang was developed in the late 50s. It became really popular in the Mid 1960s because the first astronauts took the powder to Space starting in 1965 when I was 2 years old so that caused a major Advertisement campaign that made it really popular. There’s actually different flavors depending on what country you are in but Orange was always the most popular in the US

Loved Tang growing up in the 70s. Still have a glass container it came in. It was clear glass with an orange screw on top. Set of 4 if memory serves, one for each season. I think we have the fall one. Around 1980 this was. Mom keeps dried pasta in it. Since it is made of glass and we've moved so many times,I am amazed it has not broken! Still love Tang but have not had in years!

@@ThisWithThem You are most welcome! I remember drinking Tang with my brother in my red Snow White dwarf plastic cup with my brother while watching cartoons. We drank it because our Grandad drank it. It was probably more sugar than it is now. FYI Tim's Cascade chips are made in the city of Algona, WA. Which is a few cities south of Seattle. Ok here goes my huge fan out on my Hawks...The 12 is for the 12th man/12's meaning the fan as there can only be 11 players on the field. If you look on YT any Seahawk games you should check out the one where the crowd alone created so many false starts that other teams don't like to play in Seattle. Back in the early years (early 1980's), the team would get penalized if the cheering was too loud. Guess what us Hawk fans did? We got louder! That was back in the good old Kingdome. They took that rule away. I'm actually a moderator for a fan club run by Norb (under his name Norbcam). Not only are we fans but we raise money for charity. Mama blue has had season tickets since day one in 1976. She is now 90 and her cancer came back. We raised funds to pay for it. We are also raising funds to help pay for former Seahawk great Curt Warner to send his twin kids to live in a housing especially set up for autistic kids. We have a special connection with our players. When we won Superbowl 48 and the team went to the white house, the pic they took with President Obama included the 12th flag. It's also a thing for us 12's to take pictures with the flag around the world. FYI if you are ever in Seattle hopefully you can go to a game. The fans in 2010 were cheering so loud against the Saints, jumping up and down, a 2.0 earthquake was created. Also, our brand new hockey team, in the NHL The Kraken, will be starting next year. The team was name by the fans. FYI Starbucks isn't the only company started in Seattle. Boeing, Nordstrom, Costco, Alaska Airlines, Eddie Bauer, REI, Microsoft, Nintendo, Lowe's, Seattle's Chocolate's, Theo Chocolates, etc. BTW we do grow and sell marijuana in our state as it's legal. We were 2nd behind Colorado to legalize it. Yes we call it DC or the other Washington. The Pacific Northwest tends to be ignored by the rest of the country. If you ever watch the national news even the national weather we are very rarely mentioned. One day hopefully you all can visit.

Tang was used by early NASA crewed space flights. In 1962, when Mercury astronaut John Glenn conducted eating experiments in orbit, Tang was selected for the menu it was also used during some Gemini flights, and has also been carried aboard numerous space shuttle missions. Although many soda companies sent specially-designed canned drinks into space with the crew of STS-51-F, the crew preferred to use Tang, as it could be mixed into existing water containers easily.

They say if you put the pop tart minis in the freezer, it makes them taste like ice cream. This box was full of amazing things. The family seems to know you well. I live in Oregon, about 3.5 hours from Seattle.

So I don't know about tang turning you orange, but I know my cousin's skin started to turn orange when all he wanted to eat for a veggie when he was young was carrots, he ate them like some eat apples, but all day long. I believe Tang went into space with John Glenn in 1962, and though Nasa boasted about inventing it, the drink was actually on grocery store shelves for a few years before that but was not a popular choice until John Glenn drank it in space. We had it when I was little back in the 60's but not often, my mother preferred Kool-aid and would add a fresh squeeze of orange or lemon to the mix after stirring, we loved it, I haven't had it in years and didn't even know it was still available. So many goodies in that box, my favorite treat lately from Trader Joe's is called "Inner Peas", a delicately crunchy, baked green pea snack. Highly addictive and oh so delicious, I eat them in place of potato chips and such. Thanks for sharing another great gathering of goodies with us, have a wonderful day.

As a kid in the U.S. in 70’s we always called it the “astronaut’s drink”. We thought we were so cool 😎 drinking it

Orange juice sold in stores in the US is a processed item!! That's the reason it has so much sugar. If you took a fresh orange and made orange juice, it wouldn't have as much sugar, unless of course you added sugar.

Well, there's about 12g of sugar in a 3-inch diameter orange. Obviously some of that is in the rind and pulp and won't end up in the juice, but you also tend to use multiple oranges for a glass of juice, so 20-ish grams of sugar per glass is about right just from the natural fruit itself.

i think because I grew up with Salt Water Taffy at Cape Cod, there's these two rival shops making their own taffy, You get to pick your own flavors.
