this game was very much the realistic as compared to AOE I and II however somehow stayed behind in the market.

First of all its an eastern game. By eastern game i mean from an east european country game maker, and those markets dont have much connection with the rest of the world. Kinda... Well, let me clarify a bit. They dont have enough money to pay for a decent publisher to advertise the game. This is 1 of the reasons why its kinda failed. GSC game world collaborated with some german publisher, i think, and they didnt do a good job to advertise the game. Secondly the problem is that the game name was an issue. I must precise that all this information i took from a video about GSC games, i dont remember much tbh and i dont have a link either. So the main market for any country is USA, because thats were people got the highest purchasing power due to good economy. Problem is, when you're an american and you see a game called american conquest, you dont really want to buy it. Its hard to explain it actually, because even for me it doesnt make much sense, but it seems like its about patriotism that americans got, and all that stuff. Besides its an RTS game, so its already a niche game type. And well, thats it, not a lot of people are interested by history. So they dont need such games. And its sad, because there are actually a very few video games that exploit the Gold Rush and conquest of the New World themes. I really like indians and all those things. And also strategy games. Too bad, what can i say.

​@@artemkh8944 I'll buy you that with the eastern markets. But the rest I don't. Cossacks was a huge success for its time and it was developed and then published by the same people who did AC. There must be more to that and I guess the main issues were from a gameplay perspective. Here is why: RTS games are not a niche. They sell good, they've always sold good, but the market was, even back then, dominated by some reputable brands and it was subsequently kinda hard to effectively advertise the game. They did a bad job about advertising as you mentioned. However AC received a lot of positive reviews as did its expansion pack Fight Back. It's drawbacks come from a technical perspective. First of all, its graphics: While the art design is truly astonishing, realistic and colourful, it lacks major 3D innovations. Realistic battle environments are hard to simulate with a fixed camera perspective and the 2D - 3D mix that they used for the game. Second it was about gameplay as well, I would call it the same issue that Supreme Commander had: It was too big to manage. Comparable innovations in battle simulation at that time came e.g. from the total war games. But these separated the battle and management sequences while AC und SupCom didn't. They tried to fuse both into a relatively complex RTS mechanic that had to work dynamically with arcade-style buildup phases, complex resource management and relatively huge battles.

This is what Age of empires always Tried and wanted to be but never really reached, not even in the newer or definitive Editions. So friggin underrated and my true "age of empires" in heart, especially cossacks and cossacks American conquest. Everything So astonishing

Great game. Brings back memories. Very relaxing! Favorite scenario was having to move British troops to a location and build fort and supporting structures while Indians constantly attack.

The only thing I didnt like about this game is how overpowered it is to put people inside buildings and how hard buildings is to take out (with soldiers). And how fast villagers is created, But damn I miss this game. Spanish was my favorite civ choice

@@helliswar dafuk? It is exactly the other way around. Cossacks was made in 2000, while the first American Conquest came out in 2002. Do some wiki before you say anything.

Fightback. FB is just AC standard on steroids, and Divided Nation boosted the health of every unit in the game to offset the killing power of cannon and gatling guns. Tbh, the hierarchy goes Fightback>Entente (Lesta .RU)>Alexander>AC>DN.

In game, press 'Enter' and type 'qwe'. It's a cheat but for some reasons, it re-enables the effect sound and won't affect gameplay.
