Immigrants don't "stick to themselves," but rather are free to celebrate & practice their culture without having to change into "a Canadian" when they leave their house. As a 58 year old Canadian, I don't keep shit in...lol. We talk about American politics because it's a spectacle. Sorry, eh?

This video has misrepresented the idea that Canadians are conformists and do not encourage individualism. We absolutely do appreciate individualism and are fine with non-conformity but we hate arrogance, so Canadians tend to tamp down on people thumping their chest with pride about something that they have just done, because we find people who brag about themselves obnoxious and unattractive.

The Canadian immigrant population does not stay to themselves. We share our culture with everyone. But nobody screams at us to "speak English" if we speak our native language. If you walk into a bank in Canada and all you speak is Swahili the bank will refer you to an agent who speaks Swahili, they will not insist that you speak English. That is the difference between Canada and America when it comes to immigration. Canada accommodates other cultures, their languages and religions.

As an American I want to apologize for all the loud idiots in my country. There are plenty of us who’d like the US to be a bit more like Canada in certain respects. Culturally we’ll never not be American, but we could really do without the aggressive stupidity.

I'm an older Canadian living in Québec. We had rules to preserve harmony in the home and in public. 1- do not discuss religion: it is personal between God and you. 2- do not discuss your salary: you will be perceived as bragging or whining. 3- do not discuss your political affiliation: it only causes friction and conflict. Simple and effective.

Ethnic groups in Canada don't "keep to themselves". They just keep more of their cultures alive, and share them with everyone else. Like how I introduced all of my Anglo Canadian friends to perogies and holobtsi as a kid. And my Lebanese Canadian friends introduced me to fatayers.

The U.S. constitution heralds the phrase "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness:. This phrase promotes the interests of the individual and not society. The Canadian equivalent is the phrase "peace, order and good government". This phrase promotes the interests of society, not the individual. In my mind that is the defining difference between our countries.

This video is not very accurate then and now. Online shopping, spotify, not true, we had them back them. The difference between melting pot and mosaic is that for Americans, you're American first before being from different backgrounds but mosaic is different people from different backgrounds and culture get together to form Canada. Another example: different types of chocolate and you melted them together: melting pot but mosaic: different types of chocolate, you put them in a big bowl. I hope I explain well!😁

I obviously can’t speak for other Canadians, but when he said, “they’ll just stew on it or apologize,” my first thought was that he was correct about me. If I have a personal problem, no one will know about it, and I’ll just hold it in and die with it 😂😂😂 I don’t like confrontation at all, it actually scares me. If there’s a small problem when friends, I’ll deal with it politely, or I’ll just distance myself

Individualism and individuality are not the same. In UK for example, you can buy into the whole collective idea, ie we are all society rather than just caring for yourself and your family, but still, there is more individuality in terms of dress, music, ideas, humour. Canada seems more socially minded too.

@timcarder21702 жыл бұрын
As a cook, I have never seen, nor heard of anyone ever doing that to a customers meal. Nor have I ever done it. Wanted to? Most definitely. A couple times an aggravating pos came in complaining about everything You *'want'* to mess with the food...but you don't. That's grounds for dismissal if you get caught. Plus a civil lawsuit. And criminal charges (how severe depends on the mood of the District/Crown Attorney). Then there's the never being hired as a cook again(can't use last job as a reference, plus the news media coverage wouldn't help). And could cost the restaurant its reputation. Causing to have to close. Costing numerous co-workers their livelihood. Also the potential of being assaulted...or worse. So why chance it?

We Canadians are not that trusting and approval of our goverment because we know that absolute power corrupts absolutely and they know they have no real authority to makes us do what is morally wrong against both the individual and the collective because the collective is a group of individuals all looking at the same thing from multiple perspectives and that is one reason why we have 5 parties and our conservatives are actually better then America's in some ways but are the same in others because you can't be progressive all the time sometimes you need to slow down and conserve what you just did for feature generations for them to build upon to futher progress humanity and society the individual and the collective
