May I put in my one bit of advice? I am Ghanaian and spent my graduate education here in the US. My best friends are "brothers" who took me in, mentored and works/ed with me. I think brothers and sisters wanting to visit Ghana is great. However, for me, the most important for me is how the place let them experience loss, healing, and rejuvenation. I took a trip with my AA brother from Burkina Faso, to Salaga (northern Ghana) where the first slave auction took place (1/2 did make it) through Kintampo, to Assim Fosso where they took their last bath to the slave dungeons, 48 of the 60 are located on the coast of Ghana. For me that is more more important. Senegal is also great for Goree Island. It is never which is better but where your deeper needs are met.

South Africa will give you everything you see in America, and Ghana will offer you a mix of everything you want to see in Africa, cultural heritage is a big thing in Ghana. From the naming ceremony, different types of coffins designs, some look like ships or airplanes. How funerals are performed by different tribes to the horrible captures of slaves before their voyage to the Atlantic. The people are cordial and respectful by all standards. Don't take their humility for granted, they would strike back. They have a high sense of humanity, hospitality and culture. Greetings is a big thing in Ghana. You see an elderly person passing by you and you don't greet them is a sign of disrespect.
