The boubou or grand boubou is a flowing wide-sleeved robe worn across West Africa, and to a lesser extent in North Africa, related to the dashiki suit, this attire is the traditional attire of northern Ghana 🇬🇭, it origin lies with the clothing style of the Tuareg, Songhai-Zarma, Hausa people of sahelian west Africa.. the Yoruba people adopted this style from the Hausas of Nigeria.. moreover northern Ghanaians who are mainly Moslems, have worn the buobuo attire for more than five centuries, the attire was introduced to them during the beginning of the gonja empire which was founded by mandinka warriors from Mali... fellow Nigerians, the boubuo which is called “agbada” in Nigeria, is a west African attire from ancient Mali.. so it is not a Nigerian “traditional dress” but rather a west African attire, because it is common in almost every country in west Africa.

Trust a Ghanaian to stoke trouble where there is non. What's the dig at us Nigerian with the Agbada reference? Kofi you got it wrong and we Nigerians will send you the necessary fines to pay.Next thing you know, you will tell is that Edo kingdom in south western Nigeria has it's origin in Edo Japan. Agbada is purely Yoruba origin,do not be misled by its similarities with the boubou

Every item presented has a meaning and its purpose for the marriage
@sistafila
@sistafila Жыл бұрын
You guys nailed it. Just a few details about the itwms that are carried and presented. Ok. So the things brought include items for the bride and items for the family. There is a traditional list per your tribe, ethnicity and family. So all tribes take dowry which is money. Then drinks are also taken. Mostly based on religion but traditionally there are schnapps, liquors, wines and soft drinks. Then with each item is an accompanied Some amount of money. Then the husband has to provide the lady with clothing in terms of fabrics, underware, scarfs, slippers, bags, jewelery, cooking utensils and money for trading or to start a business. A fabric and slippers together with money is given to both mum and dad. Then a big gift is also presented to the larger family.

Traditionally marriage ceremonies are held in the hall or courtyard for ancient times and then the party is held outside. The ceremony is actually supposed to happen between leader and parents of both families. But to today it is still done with style, either indoor or outdoor.

But I came to realise that our Dagombas culture, costume and tradition is very similar to Yoruba and Hausa people from Nigeria. Even some the words/language of northern Ghana are same to that of Hausa's in Nigeria. Thank you

Most brides in Ghana wear Kente which is customised or made specially for the bride for her traditional wedding day. However the type of traditional material used is dependent on the ethnicity or part of the country that the bride comes from. None the less Kente is commonly used. Also the items you see wrapped all belong to the bride. Every family has a slightly different list but there are some common things on the bride list given to the groom and his family. Again depending on which part of Ghana one comes from, there are 3 ceremonies: Knocking , Engagement and White /Court Wedding. Knocking is when the groom's family officially come to introduce themselves to the bride's family to ask for her hand in marriage. They officially request for the bridal list and a date for the traditional wedding ceremony to be held. Here the groom's family present drinks and some amount of money. If the brides family accepts then a date when the traditional marriage would be conducted as in the case of this video is set. The traditional marriage ceremony is not just about the two people, it's also about all families. All families are important but depending on how the ethnic groupings lean, the dressing is also determined. For example when my dad is of Nzema, an Akan leaning ethnic group and my mum was Ga. The Gas hq e historically practice a patrilineal
@sarahackah-yensu9213
@sarahackah-yensu9213 Жыл бұрын
The Gas have traditionally practiced a patrilineal inheritance whiles Akan practiced matrilineally. However during my sister's traditional wedding, all the actions taken were Akan as my mum's side "deferred" to the male line. After this then comes the White/Court Wedding where the couple again with the family either go to church in the case of Christians to have their marriage blessed or have a court signing. Hope this helps. Sorry for the long essay but there is a lot more. You can search more Ghanaian traditional weddings on the Internet and you would see different versions. 🙏

About 70% of the bride price goes to the bride. The father, mother and brother gets a gift. The alcohol and drinks is for the family, everything else is for the bride. The bride items includes fabrics, bags, shoes, jewelry, Kente cloth, beads, lingerie, sewing machine, bible or quoran depending on your religion, traditional stool, kitchen utensils (sauce pan) All items for the bride are items a woman will need in her marital home. The gifts symbolises the husband's ability to take care of her

They don't buy them from abroad u less the wedding are going to take place in the US, Europe and they brides chooses to get her wedding & even gowns from the store. Most of them are designed from back home and shipped or given to someone leaving for the states or Europe to drop it off. Because Akan practice materninal system of inheritance : Daddy and and mother 👩 family head have to ask the three times if she loved the man and they should accept the gift 🎁 on herr behalf as a would be wife of Mr. ROGER. UNTIL THE LADY SAID BEFORE THE EXTENDED FAMILY CAN ACCEPTS THE GIFTS 🎁. If the lady in question says yes then two family 👪 on both can exchange pleasantries to couple and advice them about life in general and more especially per our culture the rules to love and treats their treasured daugter like golden they don't abuse her for the husband promise them he will take good care of her if he doesn't them per Akan culture the day women report of abuse then : all hell will break loose. It in culture men in the extend family come in to take the wife away from you for her safety. That will not good for the man. Your job as a husband is to care for her the new family 👪 you are about to create and protect the woman ( wife ) to walk free on the planet earth without and threatening from any man her job the woman ( wife ) duties is to love the man ( husband ) and connect him to his / her ancestors in incessant prayer to God and praying and asking for their help for the man prosperity in his life and making him the comfortable in bed to ground him life in general as his advice in the journey of life pretty much her co - pliot. Since the woman ( wife ) has the key 🔑 to every man Success in life and take good care of the family they about to create. If the love and respect the lady as the traditions says in no time the man will be successful: if and only the man act right per values the ideas and input of Akan woman (wife ) the blessings will flow live rivers of Babylon because the Akans trace their background from isreal they migrated from Ur of chaldeas of Mesopotamia from the line of JUDAH these traditions have observed and carried out over 10000 years ago in ancient Isreal to Ghana. they are practicing it now in Ghana 🇬🇭. You can married Akan woman and go broke : i mean they good marriage 💑 material not the bad one who have thrown their culture away. Their hearts is pure they are lovely to married they are gold 💛 in no time when married them to do well in life they come with alot of blessings from God. On other hand if treated them bad you will wake day all your beautiful life is gone and can get mess up if a man treats them bad you win life most of their woman 👩 can work extra hard both physical and spiritual by praying for a man success and wealth life to help the new family they have created. The man will never go broke the woman will support you in all endeavors that help the man to prosper . The woman will there for man 101% . they are outspoken, they take no nonsense from no man it makes it difficult some men to marry them : if are man who always wants to control woman you can married Akan woman 👩 they the lioness if cross paths Wrongly they tear up they are like "electricity they can generate light for use in right time at same you can be electroexcute by that same electricity that gave you light on the wrong time and it can cause your death. We don't joke with them when it comes marriage they don't play games the women take marriage serious it can make them or break them their life as woman. So my advice to young men take Akan woman 👩 marriage serious all these people will not come together to come and play games they mean business.

The groom's attire is very much Ghanaian Just like our food, everyone enjoys variety of meals even if it's not from their tribal location Ghana is made up of various tribes but we live peaceful and that's one attribute that makes us one of the most peaceful country in the world 💪💃

It's not Nigerian dressing. In Ghanaian northern culture, the men wear Agbada. In Ghana it's called FUGU. Don't get it twisted.

Nice one, but the outfits look more Nigerian than Ghanaian. I guess it's a West Africa thing.
