American Cut Glass

Realizing how beautiful the glass is, and appreciationg the one I have more. Thank you!!

*The very first piece of American Brilliant Cut Glass I bought was on eBay.* *It was a round 8"- 9" round bowl with a very bright, white blank with loads of intricate cutting. I was lucky because buyers were looking at other pieces and I was able to win this auction at a reasonable price for the quality of the bowl.* *I bought a book and the author found 2 similar patterns from different makers. One being Pitikin & Brooks (Chicago) in their "Star" pattern.* Another piece I saw up for sale was in Idaho. It was a long sort of oval piece about 12" x 7". I refer to it as a "race track" shape. I think it is an ice cream tray (maybe a celery tray). It was a firm price BUY IT NOW. I contacted him to discuss a more reasonable price. I told him I wasn't a reseller or antique store who was looking to "flip" the dish., I was a collector who would hold it long-term. He told me it was his Grandmother's and has always been in the family. We agreed on a price and i arrived in Massachusetts in perfect condition. The pattern looked familiar. I had looked at hundreds of patterns online, on eBay and in books. I finally identified it by what I called "tank tracks" as part of the pattern that was district. I sent pictures to a group of professional & amateur collectors and they agreed w/ my finding that it was Blackmer's "Columbia" pattern. Blackmer was based in New Bedford, Mass. The dish had gone to Idaho and had come back to Massachusetts. There is nothing like American Cut Glass. It was the best in the world. It won awards all around the world. (Sorry Waterford) There will never be anything like it again.

Mike Macdonald Beautiful documentary. Thank you. Much deserved honor to glass cutters. Not enough acolades given to craftsmanship. Gorgeous pieces I am sharing this with many. Hope they will subscribe. I felt as if,I was eating with the families of the owners of each piece. Your music and glassware reminded me of the movie.Yentell. And so many movies,of familes working in factories. Beautiful history.

I don't know anything about glass, but this was very nice. I am from New Jersey and my understanding is that New Jersey used to be a state in which there were a few glass factories. Now, from your video, I see that it was also a place in which glass was cut, too. I guess I should have realized that. I just purchased my first piece today. It is a glass pitcher with a plain handle that I am trying to identify.The bottom 2/3 rds is cut, the handle and top are not.
